As I stumbled upon the 2024 Nigeria crime comedy titled "Pink Butterfly" here in 2025, of course I opted to watch it on account of it being a movie that I had neither heard about nor seen before. And without knowing what I was in for, I suppose director Seun Sonoiki had every opportunity to entertain me here.
Writers Babajide Ayinde, Brandon Jose and Brandon Jose delivered a swing and a miss of a storyline and script here. I found virtually no entertainment in the movie, and I struggled to keep feigning an interest in the pointless narrative and cardboard cut-out characters. The storyline was fully and wholly devoid of comedy elements, and the crime elements, well you have to look long and hard to find those.
The dialogue in the movie, at least the English parts, were rather difficult to understand most of the times given the Nigerian accent on their spoken English, and there was no subtitles for the English bits, only for the bits where they spoke Nigerian. So some of the dialogue was lost on me, solely because I struggled to understand their heavy accents.
Given my limited exposure to the Nigerian cinema, of course I was not familiar with a single actress or actor on the cast list. But that is actually something that spoke in favor of the movie, as I enjoy watching new and unfamiliar talents on the screen.
This is not a movie that I would recommend you to waste 109 minutes on watching. Nor is it a movie that I will ever sit down to watch a second time.
My rating of director Seun Sonoiki's 2024 movie "Pink Butterfly" lands on a two out of ten stars.
