Season 2 of The Recruit has been much better than the first. While Season 1 only had a 68% Tomatometer score, the second chapter came in strong with 91%, making it one of the best-reviewed seasons of any spy show. This is hardly surprising, considering the stakes are way higher this time. In his second outing, CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo) finds himself in Seoul, where he has to help South Korea's National Intelligence Service (Nis) agent, Jang Kyun (Teo Yoo), deal with a Yakuza problem. The entire saga is linked to a cryptocurrency jointly developed by the CIA and Nis.

"The Age of Adaline" — directed by Lee Toland Krieger and released in 2015 — is, put simply, a movie centered around the idea that Blake Lively is an inhumanly beautiful creature. This makes it hard to imagine that anyone else could have played Adaline Bowman, a woman unstuck in time who's incapable of aging. What you may not know, though, is that "Grey's Anatomy" veteran Katherine Heigl was originally supposed to play the titular role but ended up dropping out ... so what happened here?
Heigl, who originated the role of Dr. Izzie Stevens on the long-running ABC medical drama — and left the series partway through its 6th season — was initially cast in the film against Angela Lansbury, who was supposed to play Adaline's much older daughter, Flemming. Long before the movie came out, Heigl exited the project in 2010, according to a report in Deadline; at first, the outlet said that Heigl's departure was due to on-set strife.

Exclusive: Following Lionsgate’s acquisition of eOne, Lionsgate Television has moved in to retain the top TV creator on eOne’s roster, Alexi Hawley, signing a premium overall deal with the creator/executive producer of two of eOne’s three ongoing premium scripted series, The Rookie on ABC, starring Nathan Fillion, and The Recruit on Netflix, headlined by Noah Centineo, as well as a hot new drama Lionsgate has out in the marketplace, The Envoy.
Hawley had emerged as the most prolific creator at eOne where he had two back-to-back overall deals, the most recent of which, signed in 2022, carried over to Lionsgate after the merger. In addition to The Rookie, which is headed to its seventh season, and The Recruit, going into Season 2, he also was behind spinoff The Rookie: Feds, which aired on ABC for one season, a run that was cut short at least in part by the strikes.

Daredevil: Born Again is getting a complete creative team overhaul after Kevin Feige was unsatisfied with the direction and outcome of the series so far. The new showrunner, Dario Scardapane, has experience working on Marvel and Netflix series like The Punisher, while directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have recently joined the MCU. Marvel Studios is implementing a new strategy to avoid past production mistakes, which includes dedicating showrunners solely to TV productions and aiming for more multi-season series like the successful Loki.
With filming still on pause, Daredevil: Born Again is undergoing a restructuring process and has already found a new showrunner and directors for the series centered on Charlie Cox's version of the Man Without Fear. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Kevin Feige had decided to make some major changes to the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again, as after seeing the result of what they...

Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead — who directed on Marvel’s “Moon Knight” and are the lead directors on Season 2 of “Loki” — will step in to direct the rest of the first season of “Daredevil: Born Again.” As part of the show’s creative overhaul, Marvel released the previously hired directors for Season 1 after production shut down amid the SAG-AFTRA strike. Her Grey's Anatomy era is considered the height of her career, although her professional history is filled with notable acting roles and other worthy entertainment features. The period between 2014 and 2016 proved to be something of a golden era for female-led political dramas on television: Scandal, Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, State of Affairs and Veep all starred women shaking things up in Washington at a time when female employees in the U.S. administration weren't so rare as they are now. Even on male-led shows House of Cards and Designated Survivor, female lawmakers pushed policy and rose to prominence in Hollywood's gloss on Washington.

Now was supposed to be a happy time indeed for Stx Entertainment. If all had gone according to plan, “The Happytime Murders” would have been a smash summer hit and the studio would be laughing all the way to the bank with a successful Ipo under its belt.
But the Melissa McCarthy movie tanked at the box office, pulling in only $25 million worldwide despite costing $40 million to make. And the planned Ipo on the Hong Kong stock exchange is stuck in limbo, with the soonest a listing could take place pushed back to November, well past its end-of-summer target date.
Those setbacks have conspired to cloud the picture for Stx as the company tries to make good on its promise to usher in a new way of doing business in Hollywood. Founded in 2014 and touted as a fully baked content and distribution engine, the studio has seasoned U.S. executives...

After lengthy negotiations, Zoë Kravitz ("Big Little Lies") has been tapped to star and executive produce "High Fidelity," the reimagining of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack with a female point of view, which had been in development at Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service.

STX Entertainment, as has long been suggested would be the case, has filed for an IPO on the Hong Kong stock exchange. If accepted, the proposal would make Bob Simonds’ burgeoning studio the first U.S.-based entertainment company to go public on the Hong Kong exchange.
The company was valued at $1.5B last year, however, it has been reported previously that the company could be valued as high as $3.5B after the IPO. Since its inception, STX has been modeling itself to become a major entertainment company along the lines of Viacom and this is yet another step in the path to achieve that goal.
STX Entertainment CEO Simonds has been hinting that they might go public for some two and a half years now when China’s Tencent and Hong Kong telecom giant Pccw led an investment round in STX with the specific aim of building a studio.

Exclusive: I hear a romantic comedy TV series inspired by Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel High Fidelity and the 2000 feature starring John Cusack is in early development for Disney’s upcoming direct-to-consumer service. The project, a gender-swapped take on the classic title, comes from writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka (Bull, Ugly Betty), the Midnight Radio producing team and ABC Signature Studios (Smilf), the cable/streaming division of ABC Studios. Midnight Radio is comprises Scott Rosenberg — who co-wrote the High Fidelity feature — Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.
Written by West and Kucserka, the High Fidelity TV series is described as a departure from the book and the movie while still capturing the romantic comedy and authentic spirit of the original source materials. I hear it centers on a record store owner — a female take on the character played in the movie by Cusack — talking straight to the camera as she chronicles past relationships.

Casting on Jon Favreau’s live-action rendition of The Lion King is now beginning to enter the home stretch. And what an ensemble it has in tow.
From Donald Glover (Han Solo, Spider-Man: Homecoming) leading the charge as Simba to the great James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa, Disney’s modern reimagining hasn’t been left wanting for A-list talent. That starry cast has now expanded by one, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that Luke Cage actress Alfre Woodard has signed on to voice Sarabi, Simba’s doting mother.
Before storming the streets of Harlem as the devious Mariah Dillard, Woodard collected roles on Burning Sands and State of Affairs, and will next be seen in Saint Judy. For The Lion King, however, she joins an ensemble that already includes Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as meerkat/warthog double act Timon and Pumbaa, not to mention the Oscar-nominated Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.

The Show Was Dumb No Doubt About It
I feel like staying far away from Civil War II this week. How far away? I’m not even writing about comic books. That far.
Doubt was another attempt to do a Shonda Rhimes style show without Shonda Rhimes. CBS tried to hedge its bets by having former Grey’s Anatomy Katherine Heigl headline Doubt. Did that help? Even less than her presence helped in her last show, State of Affairs. State of Affairs lasted 13 episodes. CBS pulled Doubt after only two episodes. Which is one more episode than I was able to last. Doubt was such a huge turkey it could have fed the Eight is Enough brood and still have had enough to give the Brady Bunch leftovers. But I digest.

Katherine Heigl makes her television return on Wednesday on CBS’ Doubt.
Heigl is joined by Elliott Gould, Dule Hill and Laverne Cox for a legal drama that’s CBS’ attempt at cracking Shondaland’s ABC hits, even using two Grey’s Anatomy writers to do it.
Doubt comes in somewhere in the middle of current CBS and ABC fare. It's not too soapy or crazy like Scandal, and it's not too procedural like Bull. It stands on it's own, but its stability can't be determined based on what I've seen so far.
