The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss has joined the cast of The Kitchen, an adaptation of the Vertigo comic book about mob wives taking over the business. Tiffany Haddish was first to sign on for the New Line feature, followed later by Melissa McCarthy. Melissa McCarthy heads the Irish mob in New Line’s upcoming The Kitchen.

“What gives men the right to think that they know what’s best for women more than women do,”asks one of the toughest Irish mafia enforcers in DC Entertainment's Vertigo comics series The Kitchen. “You really think that’s our fuckin’ choice to make?” Melissa McCarthy will play one of the leads in New Line Cinema’s adaptation of the crime series, according to Variety. McCarthy joins Girls Trip star and long-time standup comedian Tiffany Haddish.

The Kitchen is being written and directed by Andrea Berloff, who wrote Straight Outta Compton. The Vertigo Comics series comic comes from Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle, and featured an all-female art team. Drawn by Ming Doyle and Jordie Bellaire with cover art Becky Cloonan, The Kitchen was published in 2014.

Melissa McCarthy is joining Tiffany Haddish as a cast member for the upcoming DC/Vertigo Comics movie adaptation The Kitchen. The project is based on the seven-issue comic book miniseries of the same name, as was written by Ollie Masters (Snow Blind) and illustrated by Ming Doyle (Girl Over Paris, Constantine: The Hellblazer). The Oscar-nominated screenwriter Andrea Berloff is making her feature length directorial debut here, drawing from her own adapted script.

The star of the Emmy-nominated Food Network show The Kitchen and fiancé Philip Button welcomed their second child together on Monday, Dec. 5, at 4:55 p.m, her rep confirms to People exclusively.

Born in San Diego, California, daughter Anna Carina Button-Valladolid weighed 6 lbs., 2 oz.

“Grateful to God and my family for our perfect baby girl that came to complete our family just in time for Christmas,” Valladolid, 38, tells People exclusively. “Anna is strong and a fighter, and her older brothers, dad and mom are absolutely in love with her.”

Today, South by Southwest has announced its second wave of Keynote and Featured speakers for its 2017 event. The Film Keynote this year is Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels, best known for his films “Precious,” “The Butler,” and the hit Fox TV series “Empire.” The two other previously announced Keynote speakers are Jill Soloway, creator of Amazon series “Transparent,” and Jennifer Doudna, co-inventor of Crispr-Cas9, a groundbreaking new technology for editing genes.

Vertigo, the darker side of DC that has brought us comics and graphic novels like Preacher, iZombie and The Sandman (which either have turned or are being made into into must-see TV and movies), is having another one of its titles adapted for the screen. New Line Cinema, which owns the rights to Vertigo properties, will be adapting Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle’s seedy crime comic The Kitchen.

Masters was rumored to have pitched the idea to Vertigo editor Will Dennis as “it's Goodfellas meets Mob Wives."

The Kitchen is gritty portrayal of New York City in the late 1970s, a city on the edge of bankruptcy that seethes with sex, drugs and gang violence. The Hell’s Kitchen district is terrorised by Irish mobsters...
