Paramount+ has officially greenlit “Nola King,” a spinoff of “Tulsa King” starring Samuel L. Jackson.
Variety originally reported on the series in June, with Jackson set to first appear in the upcoming third season of “Tulsa King” before moving over to his own series. Paramount has now officially confirmed plot details for “Nola King,” with the official logline stating:
“‘Nola King’ follows Russell Lee Washington Jr. (Jackson) who, after befriending Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) during a ten-year stint in federal prison, is sent to Tulsa by New York’s Renzetti crime family to take Dwight out once and for all. Inspired by what Dwight created in Tulsa and impressed with the possibilities of second chances, Washington returns to New Orleans, the home he abandoned forty-years ago, to rekindle his relationship with his family, friends, and to take control of the city he left behind. The late Michael Madsen delivers one of his final performances in “Concessions,” a comedy-drama about the closing night of a movie theater, marking what director Mas Bouzidi calls a tribute to “the last of his kind” in cinema. The actor died earlier this month.
Variety has obtained an exclusive clip from the film, which premieres at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August. The feature showcases Madsen as Rex Fuel, a former stuntman attempting to charm his way into a free ticket to see his old movie and relive his glory days at the Royal Alamo Cinema.
“Working with Michael Madsen was one of the greatest privileges of making ‘Concessions,'” said Bouzidi, who wrote and directed the film. “He was the last of his kind, owning the camera and commanding the audience with nothing but a squint and a sly grin. I still remember the joy I’d get...

Exclusive: Oscar-nominated producer and longtime production executive Richard N. Gladstein has been appointed executive director of the Hamptons Film Festival. He will report to HamptonsFilm co-chairs Alec Baldwin and Randy Mastro. Also, David Nugent has been elevated to chief creative officer of HamptonsFilm and will report to Gladstein.
Originally hatched to extend the summer Hamptons season, the festival has been something of a sleepy gem among the big three awards-season kickoff festivals in Telluride, Venice and Toronto. Gladstein’s challenge will be to raise the festival’s profile with splashy premieres and programming.
He will use his relationships to lead HamptonsFilm and the Hamptons International Film Fest, overseeing strategic planning while creating year-round artistic offerings. Gladstein will work closely with the board of directors, artistic leadership and staff to deepen community engagement, expand industry partnerships and sponsorship and grow the impact and visibility of the annual festival in October. Quentin Tarantino has directed many feature films which have been widely acclaimed, and fans will often have their own particular favorites. Superman helmer James Gunn is a Tarantino fan, and he has shared his own pick for his favorite film.
Per Konbini, Gunn addressed Tarantino films in a new video interview. He brought up 1997's Jackie Brown, written and directed by Tarantino, sharing that it's his personal favorite. While Gunn noted that he also really enjoys Pulp Fiction, he gives Jackie Brown the edge, as he feels that it's a "perfect" film. He also revealed how he loves the movie so much that he still watches it regularly.
"Jackie Brown is the best Quentin Tarantino film," Gunn said. "At least, it's my favorite film. I don't know if there are 'bests' of anything, but it's my favorite Quentin Tarantino film. I watch it at least once a year, and really...

After eight years of silence, the Mythica franchise emerges from dormancy with “Stormbound,” a sixth installment that feels both like a homecoming and a fresh start. This crowdfunded fantasy series, which began in 2014 with modest ambitions and D&d-inspired adventures, returns to a world forever changed by the climactic events of “The Godslayer.” Set nearly two decades after the defeat of the great evil Szorlok, we find ourselves in a fractured realm where victory’s aftermath has proven almost as devastating as the original threat.
The film makes a bold narrative pivot, abandoning the quest-driven structure of its predecessors for something more intimate and psychologically complex. Instead of sprawling adventures across magical landscapes, “Stormbound” confines itself to a single location—a remote inn where disparate travelers seek shelter from both literal and metaphorical storms.

The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran actor Michael Madsen, who passed away at the age of 67 on July 3. Madsen is of course best known for his films with Quentin Tarantino, including Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and The Hateful Eight, but what you might have forgotten is that Madsen was also directed by Rob Zombie once upon a time.
It was back in 2010 that Rob Zombie directed an episode of the series “CSI: Miami,” which was the sixteenth episode of the eighth season. It was titled “L.A.,” and it came along just one year after Rob Zombie wrapped up his time on the Halloween franchise. Before he returned to the director’s chair for The Lords of Salem, Zombie first made his mark on the world of “CSI.”

Often cited as one of the defining “character actors” of the post-’90s wave of crime cinema, Michael Madsen was a truly electrifying performer who had the ability to elevate any project he was in, regardless of its quality or fame. Perhaps the ill-fated remake of the Steve McQueen film “The Getaway” or the James Bond film “Die Another Day” wouldn’t be listed as cinematic classics. Still, Madsen brought a sense of specificity and menace to his performances that made them far more entertaining than they had any right to be.
Although his credits included dozens of B-movies, many of which could be described as “guilty pleasures,” Madsen also appeared in some of the most defining and acclaimed films of their era. While he was best known for his collaborations with Quentin Tarantino, a filmmaker whose love for exploitation thrillers and classic cinema made him an excellent partner, Madsen...

The world lost a true icon yesterday when Michael Madsen passed away at his home in Los Angeles County. Today, Hollywood is mourning the loss of the beloved actor, who touched the lives of so many people both on and off camera, not the least of whom was his younger sister, Virginia Madsen. A legend in her own right, the Candyman and Dune star penned a touching tribute to her late brother, calling him, among other things, a "poet and an outlaw" in an emotional post on social media.
Taking to Instagram following the news of her brother's passing, the younger Madsen shared a photo of her and her brother along with their mother, author and filmmaker Elaine Madsen. "My brother Michael has left the stage," she wrote. "He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother—etched in contradiction,...

Michael Madsen, the actor synonymous with grit, menace, and unexpected tenderness in some of Quentin Tarantino’s most iconic films, has died at the age of 67. According to his representatives, Madsen was found unresponsive in his Malibu home on Thursday morning. The preliminary cause of death appears to be cardiac arrest.
From his unforgettable turn as Mr. Blonde in ‘Reservoir Dogs’—where he danced sadistically to Stealers Wheel before mutilating a cop—to his brooding presence in ‘Kill Bill: Vols. 1 & 2’, Madsen became a cult icon. Actor Michael Madsen, whose iconic performance in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs made him a star, has passed away.
Michael Madsen has passed away at the age of 67, leaving behind a memorable body of work. He leaves behind some exquisite performances as a gravel-voiced tough guy, sometimes with a sensitive side and sometimes less so. According to The Guardian, the actor was found dead at his home in Malibu from cardiac arrest.
After some TV work and smaller roles in such films as WarGames and The Doors, Madsen shot to fame as the psychopathic Mr Blonde in 1992’s Reservoir Dogs. Michael Madsen, who died of cardiac arrest on July 3 in Malibu at age 67, probably spent his final months entangled in a painful web of loss, regret, and deeply personal accusations. Just months before his death, the Reservoir Dogs star filed for divorce from his wife of 28 years, accusing her in 2024 of having “driven” their 26-year-old son to s*icide due to “neglect, drinking, and alcoholism”. According to People’s report, the accusations were contained in a court document later contradicted by Madsen himself.
Madsen’s son, Hudson, a U.S. Army sergeant who served in Afghanistan, reportedly took his own life in Hawaii on January 25, 2022. The actor later recanted the claim publicly on Instagram, stating, “She had absolutely nothing to do with what happened to our son.” Yet the damage, personal and emotional, had already been done. Madsen’s death leaves behind six kids, three fractured marriages, and a grieving family still haunted by unanswered questions.

Once upon a time in Hollywood, the charismatic heavy with smarts and a heart was a familiar archetype in mainstream cinema — think Robert Mitchum, Lee Marvin, Robert Ryan, or James Coburn — but the recent passing of Michael Madsen, at the age of 67, could well mark the end of that particular chapter in movie history. Though he made his breakthrough as the psychotic, ear-slicing Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 debut Reservoir Dogs, Madsen was capable of much, much more, although it’s fair to say that only his work with Tarantino ever made the most of that soulful talent. Which other tough guy could have delivered the line, as he did so memorably in Kill Bill Vol. 2, “That woman deserves her revenge, and we deserve to die” and sound like they meant it?

Following the news, stars and family took to social media to share tributes to Madsen. His sister and Candyman actress Virginia Madsen posted a photo of them with her mom, writing partly in the caption, “He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother — etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark. We’re not mourning a public figure. Michael Madsen is being remembered by his Hollywood peers. The actor, who collaborated with Quentin Tarantino ever since his directorial debut “Reservoir Dogs,” died at age 67 after suffering from a cardiac arrest.
Madsen’s team confirmed his death to IndieWire, stating that he had been found unresponsive at his Malibu home. Madsen starred in both “Kill Bill” films, “The Hateful Eight,” and “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” and almost appeared in “Pulp Fiction” as Vincent Vega, the character that was later played by John Travolta. Outside of his work with Tarantino, Madsen acted in “Donnie Brasco,” “The Natural,” “The Doors,” “Thelma & Louise,” “Die Another Day,” “Sin City,” “Boarding Gate,” and “Free Willy,” among many other films. His representatives cited that he had more projects in the works, too.

Michael Madsen, one of the greatest tough-guy actors of his generation and a favorite collaborator of director Quentin Tarantino, has passed away. According to THR, the 67-year-old actor was found unresponsive at his Malibu home following a 911 call. Cardiac arrest is suspected.
Madsen was a cinematic legend, especially for his work with Tarantino. He was perhaps the director’s most beloved recurring actor, appearing in Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, The Hateful Eight, and most recently in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The New York Times has released their list of the 21st century's greatest films, and a 2009 epic of mayhem and Nazi-murder is the highest-ranking war movie on the list. Inglourious Basterds, Quentin Tarantino's pulpy ode to mid-century Euro-war thrillers, came in at #14, making it not only the highest-ranking war movie, but also the highest-ranking of the three Tarantino films on the list. Tarantino's first, and so far only, war movie, the film stars Brad Pitt as the leader of a squad of Nazi-hunting American soldiers scalping their way through Europe.
It's the only unambiguous war movie in the top 20, and with The Hurt Locker, one of only two on the entire list; however, arguments could be made for The Zone of Interest and Oppenheimer, both of which take place during World War II. Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven" is one of the most highly revered Westerns of all time, a gritty and grounded take on the horrors of surviving the anarchy of the Old West. It's one of Eastwood's best films as both an actor and a director, and there really isn't another film like it that fully digs into its themes. But there is another Western that is just as fantastic, and it stars another Western movie legend.
If there's another actor as tied to the Western genre as Eastwood, it's Kurt Russell, who has starred in a whole bunch of fantastic Westerns over the years. And one of the best of the best is "Tombstone," which stars Russell as real-life lawman Wyatt Earp. It's a terrific drama with absolutely stunning cinematography, featuring views of gorgeous Arizona vistas, and it does deal with some of the same difficult life-or-death brutality as "Unforgiven,...

Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson share the screen in a new Western, but the response to the film is very different among audiences and critics. Both Brosnan and Jackson aren't strangers to the Western genre. Brosnan may be best known for playing James Bond across four films from 1995 to 2002, but he made his Old West debut in Grey Owl in 1999. He made a bigger splash starring opposite Liam Neeson in the underrated Seraphim Falls in 2006.
Jackson, on the other hand, is arguably more well-known for his Western films than Brosnan is. Jackson collaborated with Quentin Tarantino on Django Unchained in 2012, which was a critical and commercial hit. He later reunited with the legendary filmmaker for The Hateful Eight in 2015, in which he occupied more of a traditional gunslinging role. Now, Jackson has returned to the Western once more, starring opposite Brosnan in an action-packed take on the genre.

Westerns require a certain snap, crackle and pop: the sound of a boot dragging on gravel, the jolt of a shotgun blast, the clip-clop of horse hooves. To make those noises and more for Netflix’s brutal miniseries “American Primeval,” nine-time Oscar-nominated sound designer Wylie Stateman and Emmy-nominated co-supervising sound editor Anne Jimkes-Root took their cues from director and
exec producer Peter Berg, whom they’ve worked with on previous projects including “Friday Night Lights,” “Lone Survivor” and “Painkiller.”
“Pete said, ‘I need this to feel raw; I need the [characters’] decisions to be immediate and in the moment,’” Stateman said. That sense of the visceral is of a piece with the unrelenting tone of “Primeval,” which tells the story of an East Coast mother, Sara (Betty Gilpin), and son, Devin (Preston Mota), who head west with taciturn mountain man Isaac (Taylor Kitsch) as their guide.
