Sean Connery & Michael Caine's 3-Hour Epic War Movie Has Only 59% On Rotten Tomatoes & It's Massively Underrated
Image
Sean Connery and Michael Caine co-starred in A Bridge Too Far, a massively underrated war epic that received mixed reviews from critics on its initial release, but deserves a lot more love. Connery is best known for playing James Bond in six official movies (and one unofficial one), but he was a screen legend outside his connection to the role of 007. He starred in a wide range of movies, from the psychological thriller Marnie to the Agatha Christie whodunit Murder on the Orient Express. He worked with such legendary directors as Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Lumet, and John Huston.

These days, Caine is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Christopher Nolan, having played Alfred Pennyworth in The Dark Knight trilogy and Professor John Brand in Interstellar. Caine played his own iconic spy character, Harry Palmer, across five movies, and starred in such classics as Get Carter, The Italian Job, and Hannah and Her Sisters,...

Sean Connery Had a Real-Life James Bond Moment Early in His Career
Image
In hindsight, it may be impossible to imagine any actor other than Sean Connery as the big screen's first incarnation of Ian Fleming's MI6 superspy, James Bond. After winning the coveted role and starring as the character in seven films over two decades, his star-making turn is one of cinema's most beloved and enduring. From fist fights to shootouts to deadly tangos in the air and underwater, Connery's Bond engages in all manner of high-risk thrills and spectacle, and the Scottish actor's history as a bodybuilder and black belt lent a level of authenticity to the secret agent's physical prowess. But years before he stepped in 007's shoes, Sean Connery's hand-to-hand abilities were put to the test when he scuffled with a formidable real-life foe on the set of the 1958 film, Another Time, Another Place.

Sean Connery: The Craggy Charisma of the Last Real Movie Star
Image
Let’s raise a farewell glass to one of the all-time greats, Sean Connery. Even though the legendary Scottish actor turned 90 this summer, his death still feels like a shock, just because Connery seemed like he’d stick around forever — a giant oak towering over other stars, showing them up as lightweights. The most charismatic of movie stars, all craggy gravitas, with zero interest in celebrity, sucking up to nobody, Connery held a simple code and lived by it. As he told Rolling Stone in a 1983 cover story, “The lesson there is,...

Breaking News: Sir Sean Connery Dead At Age 90
Image
By Lee Pfeiffer

Sir Sean Connery has passed away at age 90. One of the few remaining genuine legends of the film industry, Connery's passing will seem surrealistic to his legions of international fans, as he somehow seemed immortal. Connery overcame a humble upbringing in Edinburgh, Scotland to emerge as a cinematic icon. As young man, he entered the Royal Navy but his stint was short-lived, as he was released from service due to health issues. He later dabbled in weight lifting and was Scotland's candidate in the Mr. Universe contest. Connery drifted into acting quite by chance after someone suggested he audition for a chorus role in a London stage production of "South Pacific". He got the part and the acting bug got the better of him and he became determined to make it his profession. Connery secured bit roles in low-budget British films without making much of an impact,...

Great Scot: Nobody Pushes Sean Connery Around
Image
This cover story was originally published in the October 27, 1983 issue of Rolling Stone.

It Was On April 4th, 1958, that Lana Turner’s teenage daughter shoved a carving knife into the unsuspecting stomach of one John Stompanato, her mother’s menacing boyfriend, thus not only ending Stompanato’s unpleasant career on what seemed an altogether appropriate note but setting off a succulent Hollywood scandal (Aging Actress Whipped like Dog by Hoodlum Lover!) and also causing no end of inconvenience for young Sean Connery, who was in town at the time working for Disney.

Sean Connery Dies: Beloved James Bond Actor Was 90
Image
Scottish actor Sean Connery has died at the age of 90. His son Jason Connery told the BBC his father had died peacefully in the Bahamas after a long illness.

Famous for his dashing good looks, strapping physique and abundance of charisma, Connery was the first actor to portray James Bond in film, starring in seven entries in the franchise from Dr No to Never Say Never Again. He was also an Oscar-winner for his supporting turn in Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables, his sole nomination from the Academy, and he received two BAFTAs including an honorary Fellowship Award. He was awarded a knighthood in 2000.

Early years

Born in Edinburgh in 1930, Connery joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16 before being discharged three years later on medical grounds. He took numerous other jobs including being a lifeguard, lorry driver and an artist’s model before his bodybuilding led him...

How we made Il Postino
‘At Massimo’s funeral, his film double walked behind the coffin in homage – and all the Neapolitans thought it was his ghost’

Massimo Troisi was a huge star in Italy. He loved a film I’d made called Another Time, Another Place, about Italian PoWs in Scotland. We looked at various projects to do together, and he’d bought the rights to this Chilean novel called Burning Patience, about the death of Pablo Neruda and his friendship with a 17-year-old fisherman.

Justin Hartley in Trailer for Indie Time Travel Romance 'Another Time'
"I can't send you back... Look, these equations - they're still unsolved!" Gravitas Ventures has released an official trailer for a time travel indie romance titled Another Time, from filmmaker Thomas Hennessy. The film seems to be a riff on About Time and The Time Traveler's Wife, but looks nowhere near as good as those two films. The story follows a man who travels back in time for a chance at love, who meets a woman who might be the one, even though she's not the original one he wants. Of course. Justin Hartley (from "This Is Us") stars as Eric, along with Arielle Kebbel, James Kyson, Chrishell Stause, Mark Valley, Jake McLaughlin, Alan Pietruszewski, and Tucker Smallwood. I can't even begin to describe how terrible this looks, everything about it seems so awful and repellent. Thankfully the trailer is free to watch. Here's the official trailer (+ posters) for Thomas Hennessy's Another Time,...
