As a huge fan of the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises, Chad Archibald conceived this film as a tribute to these film series.
By his own admission, director Chad Archibald is a very weak swimmer and only learned to swim when he was an adult. This film was largely born out of his innate fear of water.
Ry Barrett - who plays the eponymous Drownsman - would spend four hours in the make-up chair every day.
