Comedy Nights with Kapil (2013)

Review by lax-devi94

Comedy Nights with Kapil

1/10

Nope, not that funny

If making fun of people who are different and don't look, sound, or behave like your typical Bollywood star is funny, then this is the funniest show i've seen in years. Kapil makes himself look smarter than the others by belittling anyone who is different i.e. fat, not conventionally pretty, old, short, skinny...etc. The guests on the show - actors and actresses - are celebrated, because you know, they're beautiful, smart and rich. Okay, I agree that we should all laugh at ourselves once in a while but this show crosses the limits. The show is full of sexist, homophobic, classist and derogatory jokes that really aren't jokes, they're insults. Even the audience isn't spared from his "jokes" yet they continue to laugh. I really don't appreciate what the writers and producers are trying to do here. Yes, its a break from the typical Indian serials but seriously, if we want to change the sexist, classist and racist thinking of people, we need to stop producing/watching shows with these hegemonic views.
