Trivia

The Martial Arts Kid

Edit
Don Wilson initially turned the film down after it was pitched to him by his brother, producer James E. Wilson. Don was apprehensive about starring in a family film and about director Michael Baumgarten's inexperience in the action genre.
Casting Matthew Ziff as the bully was initially met with resistance by some of the producers, who cited Ziff's handsomeness and reputation as a "good guy" as reasons to not cast him as a tough, unlikable character.
An open casting call in Cocoa Beach inspired director and co-writer Michael Baumgarten to write the Masters Spring Workout scene. All the participants working out with the masters are the people who auditioned in the open casting call.
Won Best Musical Score by Kaz Boyle at The Melbourne Independent Film Festival in 2015.
The WorldFest Houston nominated Kathryn Newton for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Martial Arts Kid in 2015.
