One of the things I’m most proud of doing here in the horror world is co-creating the “Horror Buddies” with Horror Decor, inspired by the WWF “Wrestling Buddies” of my youth. Along with artist Matt Ryan, we launched the popular line way back in 2013 with icons including Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, but all good things inevitably come to an end.
Eleven years after we originally launched the line, Horror Decor has announced this month that they’re officially discontinuing the “Horror Buddies” line at the end of this year.
The company explains, “We have always tried to come up with something new and exciting that no one else was making. Unfortunately, there are now a lot of other companies doing something similar. Horror Buddies are expensive and time consuming for us to produce as we make them all by hand. While it’s been a good run, the...

1989 was the year director J.R. Bookwalter’s debut feature, the zombie epic The Dead Next Door (which Sam Raimi not-so-secretly had a hand in), made its way out into the world – and it also happens be the year when his follow-up feature, the “dark, splatter-drenched” oddball comic book homage Robot Ninja (watch it Here) was released. Thirty-five years later, Robot Ninja has now received the novelization treatment and the result, Robot Ninja: The Official Novelization by Damien Casey, is now available from Encyclopocalypse Publications! Copies can be purchased at This Link.
Shot in Ohio for $15,000, with David DeCoteau credited as an executive producer, Robot Ninja features cameos by Burt Ward (best known for playing Robin in the ’60s Batman TV series) and legendary scream queen Linnea Quigley and has the following synopsis: Leonard Miller (Michael Todd) is a frustrated artist. His publisher (Burt Ward) and his agent (Mike Shea) are...

Last year, writer/director Justin M. Seaman brought us a sequel to his 1989-set slasher The Barn (check out my review Here, get the movie Here)… and now he’s working on wrapping up the trilogy with a film appropriately titled The Barn Part III! The Barn and The Barn Part II (get that one Here) featured genre icons like Ari Lehman (who played young Jason Voorhees in the original Friday the 13th), legendary scream queen Linnea Quigley, drive-in critic Joe Bob Briggs, Diana Prince (a.k.a. Darcy the Mail Girl), Troma’s own Lloyd Kaufman, and Hellraiser star Doug Bradley. The Barn Part III is also going to feature some familiar faces, as the cast includes Children of the Corn‘s Courtney Gains and Kelli Maroney of Night of the Comet and Chopping Mall!

Encyclopocalypse Publications and Shout Factory Partner for Chopping Mall Novelization: "In a thrilling development for horror fans and bibliophiles alike, Encyclopocalypse Publications has joined forces with Shout Factory to novelize the cult classic 1986 film Chopping Mall. Produced by the legendary Roger Corman, Chopping Mall has been a mainstay of the horror genre.
Since acquiring the rights to Roger Corman's library in 2018, Shout Factory has been exploring innovative ways to bring these classic films to a broader audience. This partnership with Encyclopocalypse Publications marks a new chapter in that journey.

As far as I’m concerned, director Jim Wynorski’s 1986 film Chopping Mall (watch it Here) ranks up there as one of the most entertaining horror movies of the ’80s, which is the decade that brought a lot of my favorite horror movies into the world. It’s also a movie that doesn’t seem to get referenced often enough, and doesn’t get as much respect as it deserves – even if James Wan wants to remake it and Shout Factory TV aired it for 24 hours straight on Black Friday. So I’m glad to see that Chopping Mall is getting some love from the folks at Encyclopocalypse Publications, who have announced that they’re teaming up with Shout Factory and author Brian G. Berry for a Chopping Mall novelization!

With Halloween just around the corner now is the perfect time to revisit two slasher classics, The Barn and The Barn Part II, both now streaming on Screambox as SVOD exclusives, thanks to Terror Films.
Justin M. Seaman‘s 2016 horror movie The Barn is a retro throwback horror movie that takes you back to 1989.
“The Barn is a love letter to monster movies and the campy decade where they reigned supreme, that’s as fun as it is bloody!” wrote Daniel Kurland back in 2016.
In the film…
“It’s Halloween 1989, and best friends Sam and Josh are trying to enjoy what’s left of their final Devil’s Night before graduating high school. But trouble arises when the two pals and a group of friends take a detour on their way to a rock concert, finding an old abandoned barn and awakening the evil inside. Now it’s up to...

It’s the summer holidays, so what better time for the House of Mouse to release the latest live-action remake of one of their most beloved tales to the Disney+ streaming service? Yes, The Little Mermaid will be making a big splash in September!
Starring Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, and Javier Bardem, the film follows the same basic plot as the animated version, complete with songs. The Little Mermaid may have struggled at the box office, but it will likely find its natural home and plenty of fresh eyeballs on streaming when it debuts this month.
Elsewhere in September, Ahsoka continues rolling out the latest arc of the Star Wars saga, while Marvel’s Groot will be back for a fresh batch of animated shorts. What trouble will the little tree find himself in next? We’re excited to find out, but that’s not all she wrote for Marvel fans this month,...

From director Justin M. Seaman, both The Barn and The Barn: Part II are now streaming on Screambox, and the sequel is now getting its own video and board game!

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
The Barn
Before The Barn Part II streams exclusively on Screambox on May 26, catch up on the 2016 original. The Barn stands out among the glut of ’80s slasher throwbacks because it’s not satirical or a send-up; the unapologetic love letter approaches the well-trodden material with a refreshing earnestness. Capturing not only the style but also the spirit of his influences, writer-director Justin M. Seaman taps directly into horror fans’ nostalgia while introducing an imaginative mythology with ample heart in a charming package.
At its core, the film is a coming of age tale about a teenager who doesn’t want to grow...

It took more than three years at steadily declining asking prices that started at $2.995 million and, in the end, a punishing hit to his pocketbook, but Phish front man Trey Anastasio at long last sold a secluded, celeb-pedigreed cottage cleaved to a steep, wooded cliff above the Hudson River in New York State’s sleepy and quietly swank Snedens Landing enclave, about an hour’s drive due north of Midtown Manhattan, for $1.83 million. Not counting carrying costs, improvement expenses and real estate fees, Anastasio took a bank account brutalizing $870,000 loss on the property he bought almost a decade ago, in September 2009, for $2.7 million from Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe nominated “Sopranos” star Loraine Bracco who’d purchased the two-acre river-side spread in 1989 with her then husband Harvey Keitel from 1975 Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn.

One of my favorite horror films of 2016 is Justin M. Seaman's nostalgic time warp back to Halloween night in 1989, The Barn. Justin Seaman's The Barn will show for the first time on Digital platforms, this month. A Nevermore Production release, this title has already debuted on DVD. Now, this indie horror film is set to have another release through Terror Films. In this title, several friends are attacked by a trio of three villains, on Devil's Night. The Barn centrally stars: Mitchell Musolino and Will Stout. Horror icon Linnea Quigley (Night of the Demons) and Friday the 13th's (1980) Ari Lehman also round out the cast. Winner of dozens of awards, a preview of The Barn's latest release is hosted here. The story, for The Barn, begins near Halloween. Friends Sam (Musolino) and Josh (Stout) are set to graduate from high school. But, they might not survive the night as evil emerges from an abandoned barn. Sam and Josh, along with their friends, are now on the run as Hell takes over their hometown.

10/31 is a horror anthology. From Scream Team Releasing, the anthology hosts five short films and one wraparound. The film was developed by: Brett DeJager (Bonejangles, 2016), Rocky Gray (Volumes of Blood), Zane Hershberger (The Barn), John William Holt (The Dooms Chapel Horror), Hunter Johnson and Justin M. Seaman. The film's wraparound stars - "The Queen of Screams" Jennifer Nangle. As well, the segments are titled: "The Halloween Blizzard of '91," "The Samhain Slasher," "Trespassers," "Killing the Dance," and "The Old Hag." Just released on DVD, an overview of the film's release is hosted here. This film recently had its premiere, in early February. The DVD became available shortly thereafter. On February 9th, the film premiered to cast and crew. But now, horror fans can see the title for themselves. The anthology offers tales of: masked killers, scarecrows, witches and tricksters (Nevermore Productions). And, the anthology is presented in the vein of Creepshow (1982) or Body Bags.

One of my favorite viewing experiences in 2016 was watching The Barn, Justin M. Seaman's must-watch midnight movie that pays homage to ’80s slashers while introducing a lineup of killer new creatures to haunt your screen on Halloween night. Following its release on DVD (as well as a video game and board game based on the film), The Barn has now been unleashed on a special edition Blu-ray that's brimming with bonus features that are all treats and no tricks:
Press Release: You can now bring home the critically acclaimed and multiple award winning indie Halloween Horror hit 'The Barn' on Blu-ray for $19.99 at www.thebarnmerch.com!

Lurking within pages, displayed on the big and small screens, and at home on the airwaves, the horror genre thrived last year. 2016 was packed with great genre offerings, and although it's difficult to filter through the creepy contents of such a banner year for the genre, I forced myself to choose the moments that stuck with me the most... and still haunt my nightmares.
Green Room: Never did violence feel more real onscreen to me this year than the scenes in Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room. The third feature film from the Blue Ruin and Murder Party director is ripe with palpable frights in its depiction of a vicious battle between a punk band and neo-Nazis led by Patrick Stewart’s calculating Darcy. You can practically feel your sweaty palms wrapping around a broken fluorescent tube as the Ain’t Rights prepare for their most important performance yet as...

A new trailer has arrived for Harbinger Down ahead of the film's release tomorrow. Also in this round-up: a new teaser trailer for Cherry Tree, The Barn Indiegogo campaign, and DVD release details for horror-thriller Run, Hide, Die.
Harbinger Down: "A group of grad students have booked passage on the fishing trawler Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship’s crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without a mutation. Now the crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms. And after being locked in ice for three decades, the creatures aren’t about to give up the warmth of human companionship.

The axe-ploitation flick The Barn has a new trailer. This film, which pays homage to slashers of the '89s, involves several friends and a weekend getaway. Unfortunately, the friends unleash a long hidden evil. That evil resides in a manure strewn old barn. As well, this film stars Mitchell Musolino, Will Stout and Lexi Dripps. The story was developed by a team of writers, including: Maggi Mizell, Michael Prutman, Mark J. Reyes and Justin M. Seaman. The first trailer for The Barn is hosted here. The story begins on Devil's Night. On this special night, a group of friends are heading to a rock concert. They take refuge in a field, where an old barn resides. Now, several creatures of the night are awoken. Grumpy, they take out their anger on this group of friends, with axe, machete or scythe. The first trailer for The Barn is a good one.
