I don't think Rosemont is a film that will appeal to the masses, and although it has an underlying Christmas theme (the alternate title is A Christmas at Rosemont) it is more a story of two women, one older named Josephine (Grace Zabriskie) and wiser, and one younger named Lisa (Ayla Kell) who is unsure if she even wants to continue with her life.
Now Josephine owns a once thriving winter retreat named Rosemont which has been closed for the past 18 years and her able but often hard drinking caretaker Abe (Brad Dourif) always seem to be on latter sides of the fence when it comes to making any decisions about the outside world.
When two young people named Brad (Brendan Michael Coughlin) and a pregnant Lisa (Ayla Kell) attempt to get out of the cold after their car falls off the road during a winter storm they are met by Josephine's gun barrel. Then Josephine's capable caretaker Abe influences Josephine but only after winning a had fought argument with her that these two young people must get out of the storm or they will surely die.
Each of these four characters who must now share a roof for at least one night get to know each others story of who they are and why they feel the way that they currently do. As each character starts beginning to have feelings of empathy for the other three they all find a way to enjoy each others company for a few more days and nights ...and then Christmas comes and all is good in the world once again.
Mrs. Shullivan and I both enjoyed this Christmas themed film but it may not be for everyone's taste unless you have a warm spot in your heart for soppy stories.
It rates an 8 out of 10

We've seen all the snowed-in Christmas movies. Some include the pain of the travel problems. Some just basically cut right to snowed-in. Either way, the romantic leads get off to a rough start and "warm" up to each other after a while. This movie barely resembles those other ones.
A 19 year old pregnant woman, Lisa, is running from something. Her bus gets rerouted back where it came from because of snow so she convinces a male stranger, Brad, to take her onward. They run off the road and after nearly freezing find a closed down inn. The owner is an angry older woman who meets them with a gun. Fortunately the male handy man calms her down so they take the couple in.
So far, except maybe for the gun, it's kind of familiar. There are a couple of things the viewer can see coming, but it's not in the usual way. For one thing, the owner has a backstory that unfolds a bit at a time. Pieces come together and things get a little sentimental. Instead of baking cookies and building snowmen, one of the more interesting activities is a slightly sanitized scene of delivering a baby.
The acting was good. Each of the couples had chemistry, even if at times it was like sandpaper for one of them.
I like that not all things are tied up tightly and the viewer can decide at least one or two things.

Ok - super low budget - but surprising and just perfect for the season - not the best not nearly the worst....thoroughly surprised and we enjoyed it....
This is a touching tale of love and good prevailing. The mountain scenery is gorgeous and the lodge beautiful. A nice story with excellent acting. Definitely worth watching.
I liked this film. The viuals were amazing and the proprietess of the lodge nailed her role. Well acted, some convoluted plot pieces that needed a lot of explaining within the film, but nevertheless a very reasonable watch for the season. Recommend.

I wanted to sit down and enjoy a Christmas movie with a little intrigue and drama before reaching the happy ending. This movie was the perfect blending of those characteristics. A professional ski boarder gets stranded with an 8 month pregnant girl both headed to Denver when his 4x4 flips in serious snowstorm. They stumble upon a closed hotel. The owners aren't too keen about guests and as the story unfolds we learn why. Being pregnant they make room for her for just a few nights. Turns out the Rosemont Hotel used to be a big fancy popular hotel with many prominent guests. We learn in bits and pieces why that all changed. The pace picks up as the owner and her manager deliver the beautiful healthy baby boy with the help of first aide books. The doc arrives on snowmobiles and everyone is doing fine. More of the mystery of the hotel is revealed as the owner prepares for Christmas to welcome home mother and the baby. The movie ends with a wonderful intimate Christmas feast and plans for the future. When it ended I really wanted to see the sequel to see how it all played out.

The old lady in the movie always has a nasty sardonic twisted look on her face which makes her impossible to like. Everything about her makes this movie reek. She makes this movie hard to watch and we don't care about her as a character.

This was a surprisingly sweet movie that I loved all the way through. Every time I thought something awful or dangerous would happen, it didn't! During a horrible snow storm, two young people, two old(er) folks and a few other assorted people are brought together in way no one could imagine. Their actions and reactions to each other were really fun to see and around every turn there was another surprise I didn't see coming. I ended up loving all the people & their stories and wish I could see more of what's going to happen to them all. I highly recommend this movie to everyone who likes just enough suspense to keep you interested in what can happen when strangers meet. There is no r-rated language or sex in this movie - so refreshing!
....but good. I really enjoyed this little movie. It was predictable and heartwarming but sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered especially right before Christmas.
The acting was actually very well done by all. The plot was pretty believable. Josephine was a spitfire (although very odd in the beginning).
The young couple had great chemistry. They were naturals and did not have to try hard. The baby's creepy father was well....creepy.
Abe was a sweet old man who clearly loves Josephine very much. After all he stuck around all those years. So loyal.
Josephine was great! It was really a full circle kind of story and it did not feel far fetched or like it was trying too hard.
Lovely little Christmas movie.

Not the best movie. Kind of dull. Didn't make a ton of sense. But to be honest after the weird scene where the old lady spanks some random boys with a spoon I almost turned it off. Instead I just fast forwarded a lot til the end. If you're desperate for a new Xmas movie to watch give it a try... I won't be watching it again.
I love everything about Rosemont. all people in the movie did well . And I've been wanting to see the movie again plus buy it on DVD, but since it's not being shown or sold in the USA yet I remain hopeful that this will happen hopefully soon.

A feel good family oriented film that conveys the right messages to a post modern society that has fluid morals. We desperately need more films like this to influence the psyche for the better. Kudos to the producers, well done!
A pregnant teenage girl needs to get to Denver, the bus she is riding must turn back because of snow at the passes. Having a snack at a roadside cafe she overhears a young man headed that direction, he has a 4 wheel drive car, so she begs him to take her with him. I seriously considered abandoning this movie after about 10 to 15 minutes but stuck with it and was rewarded with a very nice little movie about relationships.
As fate would have it the two travelers go off road and get stuck in a snowstorm, they make it to a resort that it turns out has been closed for 18 years, ever since the owner's family, including a 1-yr-old granddaughter, went missing in a small plane crash. But they have sympathy for the travelers and take them in.
While the two younger actors are both good, the movie is really made good by Brad Dourif who in the role of Abe is sort of the caretaker of the closed resort. But the better one is New Orleans native, Grace Zabriskie (about 75) in the role of Josephine, the owner of the resort. Things develop in an unexpected manner, in all an entertaining movie that branches into relationships as its primary focus.
My wife and I watched it as an Amazon streaming movie.

The storyline is plausible. (after all, if one can win the lotto, anything is possible)
The acting is top-shelf. Grace Zabriskie and Brad Dourif are the entertainment for this heartwarming film. We also get a bit of Michael Gross and Lochlyn Munro. Since it's filmed around Brian Head Lodge, Utah in winter, one can imagine the beautiful scenery. This is well worth a viewing, or two!
It was a nice journey to the end with some bumps in the road and quite a ending, enjoyed the ride.

I watched this movie at Christmas time because of the present title, Christmas at Rosemont, AKA Rosemont. After watching this movie, I find that although Christmas music begins the opening credits and a Christmas tree is present, this story isn't much about Christmas. It is more about love and understanding. If you want to watch it as a novel christmas movie, do so. If you want to watch it to feel emotion and be human, by all means, do so. I gave it an 8.
The story begins as a pregnant girl and a skateboarder begin a desperate road trip to Denver. The desperation is caused by a massive snow storm in their area. The two crashes through a snowbank and are left to walk to shelter. They come upon the Rosemont Lodge where they are met by shotgun wielding Josephine, (Grace Zabriskie) and caretaker, Abe (Brad Dourif).
Josephine and Abe relent and allow Lisa (Ayla Kell) and Brad (Brendan Michael Coughlin) to shelter in the Lodge. Josephine is a self described 'crazy old recluse' and Abe, the alcoholic handyman for over 20 years at the vacated Lodge.
Tensions warm after discovery that Lisa is very pregnant. Josephine cares for Lisa, and Brad share with Abe improvements that the Lodge could undertake to reopen successfully.
Lurking behind the scene is an unidentified man who is hunting Lisa, and later is identified as Craig (Lochlyn Monro). He has tacked missing person fliers, and portraying her as being kidnapped. Later as he is identified, it's related by Lisa to Josephine that Lisa has fled from Craig because he has contracted to sell her baby.
The Rosemont Lodge was once very famous, housing kings, presidents, and other famous lodgers. The Lodge has been shut down for over 18 years as a result of Josephine and her late husbands loss due to a plane crash killing there daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. Abe relates that it was most famous for Josephine's cooking.
Josephine contacts Lisa's parents and find that they have no interest left in Lisa because of religious reasons. They do relate to Josephine that Lisa was adopted by them when Lisa was one, after she was originally abandoned at a hospital emergency room.
Before going on and creating a spoiler, I'll say that later the movie involves a great confrontation between Josephine and Craig, Brad getting to Denver and again seeing his girlfriend in Denver, and an eye-opening discussion between Josephine and her old friend, Dr. Molina (Michael Gross).
I loved this movie! The actors are not well known, with the exception of Dourif, but create true to life characters. It moves from tense and desperate, to defense, to understanding and love. Not a "hokie" Christmas "cookie cutter" movie, but a true representation of change, compassion and hope.

This Christmas movie was actually worth watching. Not a sappy fake everyone is perfect Christmas movie.
At the beginning I had to check to see if it was a Christmas movie and not a thriller. It definitely wasn't filmed in fake snow in a town where all the girls wear mini skirts and high heels in snow.
The plot twist was very interesting and leaves you questioning is she or isn't she.
I wish they would make more Christmas movies like this one. More Christmas movies based on real life situations and not afraid to push boundaries.
Worth watching. The plot twist at the end definitely has you questioning, is she or isn't she.

I didn't think I was going to like this movie but it was quite good. All of the acting was better than you would expect and the plot wasn't that easy for me to figure out. I wouldn't say that it's a Christmas movie. It just happens to take place at Christmas time. It's more about the inn two young people end up at while getting stranded in a snowstorm and the owner and the caretaker who live there. I was hoping there would be a sequel but none so far.
