Christmas week brought a bounty of viewing to streaming platforms, with eight titles crossing the billion-minute mark in Nielsen’s streaming ratings. Netflix’s Squid Game, however, stood well apart from the pack.
The Korean hit posted the highest single-week viewing tally for any streaming title in the United States in 2024 with 4.92 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Dec. 23-29. Season two of Squid Game premiered Dec. 26.
The show’s premiere week was the best for any title in two years, in fact — since Wednesday delivered about 5.3 billion minutes of viewing for the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4, 2022. Squid Game also smashed its own previous high of 3.26 billion minutes during season one’s run in 2021. Netflix had earlier said season two set a worldwide record for a premiere week, based on the streamer’s internal data.
Coming in second overall was Virgin River, Squid Game‘s tonal opposite, at 2.25 billion minutes of viewing,...

Season 2 of “Squid Game” is racking up views at a record pace. After topping Netflix’s charts last week with 68 million views in four days — Netflix’s biggest TV debut ever — the season picked up another 58.2 million views in its first full week of availability. That brings it to a total of 126.2 million views total across 11 days, more than any Netflix series has ever achieved in that amount of time.
“Squid Game” Season 2 immediately cracked Netflix’s list of its most popular non-English-language series last week, but this week it jumped from No. 7 to No. 2. Only “Squid Game” Season 1 still outpaces it, having achieved 265.2 million views in its first 91 days of streaming, but Season 2 appears likely to outpace it, having 80 days left to continue accumulating views.
Naturally, the season was the most-watched English-language series of the week of Dec. 30 to Jan. 5 — as well as the most Netflix title of the week overall.

As expected, the second installation of “Squid Game” has been an immediate and massive success. Season 2 debuted with 68 million views in its first four days of availability — more than any other Netflix series has achieved in its premiere week, beating a record that “Wednesday” set with 50.1 million views in 2022.
The season also rapidly landed on Netflix’s list of its most popular non-English language TV titles of all time at No. 7, which is measured across each series’ first 91 days of viewership. Season 1 of “Squid Game” currently sits at the top of that list with 265.2 views, but Season 2 has plenty of time to potentially cross that line.
Naturally, this made “Squid Game” Season 2 Netflix’s most-watched title of the week of Dec. 23-29. Season 1 also saw renewed interest, charting as the No. 3 non-English language TV series of the week with 8.1 million views. The week’s second-most-watched title overall was the Taron Egerton...

“Squid Game” is as big as ever. Netflix revealed that the second season of the smash South Korean drama debuted to a whopping 68 million views globally since debuting on the streamer on December 25.
Netflix says it’s a record for the streamer, notching the most views in a premiere week ever, beating a record set by “Wednesday” in 2022, which managed only 50.1 million views. It has already climbed to No. 7 on Netflix’s All-Time most popular list of Non-English language series, cracking the list in just three days.
But Season 2 is not quite as big as Season 1 just yet, which remains the biggest Netflix show, English or international, of all time. The first season has spent 24 weeks in the Global Top 10, even landing back in the Top 10 this week with another 8.1 million views. It was also brought back thanks to the “Squid Game” mobile video game and the arrival of the...
