The Ending Blew The Whole THING!

I sat and watched this movie one day after flipping past it every other time it constantly aired on cable TV. Everything about it was okay, except the stoop ladies and the sex scenes. I laughed at some parts and it kept my attention, but then came the inevitable ending. That's what blew the whole thing to me. I have never heard of this movie's director and I've never read the book this movie is based on, but the ending was horrible. They tried to do flashes and jump cuts between scenes and characters to wrap up the story. Bad idea! They didn't execute right and the ending was idiotic and just contrived and made the whole movie a waste of time to sit through. I would have been so heated if I had gone to see this in the theater. Mess!

This movie is so bad it's good

This is one of those movies that are so bad it's actually entertaining like the scene where Avery thinks he's getting promotion in some run down used furniture store and he didn't like the owner promoting his son instead and Avery going on a 3 minute rant was comedy gold. For the people saying that this was a great movie I don't know what you watched you had to know people that were in this movie cuz this movie was horrible other than the comedy aspect. But it's a watchable movie the gang members in it the few that were in it were generic and corny it is what it is but it's definitely not a good movie, I've definitely seen worse but there are scenes in this movie that are hilarious, especially the ones with Billy Dee Williams who when I grew up he was in a classic movie with Sylvester Stallone called Nighthawks and then he makes a movie like this. The acting in the movie wasn't bad at all it was just not a great movie but it's definitely watchable.

    So weak!

The movie was very dull and very boring, so boring. It was like watching paint dry, but that might be more entertaining.

I was expecting a murder mystery from the description. Then as soon as the movie comes on, I realized it was one of those urban movies that I watch on bounceTV late at night while trying to doze off. This is not an insult to those movies as some of them are really good, but this movie was just really bad.

In its effort to be creative with the story telling, it miss the mark by a large margin. The movie was about a man moving into a Queens Apartment complex and really shakes up the lives of everyone living there. Trying to be inventive with the narrative, only made the film feel inconsistent, like there were missing parts and loopholes I missed.

Not that it really matter. I've seen most of the members of this ensemble cast in other films, including other Urban dramas, and seen them do a better job with the acting. I think it was just too much going on in the movie and it was handled badly.

Waste of time at the movies.

Oh look, another Black crime thriller...

The plot, the ending in particular, is VERY contrived. The main (title) character has no real dramatic purpose and isn't much of a compelling figure. The creators were aiming to craft a crime-thriller but the director isn't skilled enough at establishing tone to make the whole affair feel like anything more than melodrama. Acting is so-so, which always upsets me in films that bring so many talented performers together. I put this on the director as more skillful ones bring the best out of their cast, something this one clearly could not. D. B. Woodside and Kellita Smith as the police detectives are the most believable in their roles. On the technical side, it's shot well enough but the editing in terms of cutting from scene-to-scene is almost student-level at times. Again, more than anything I just wish filmmakers that are able to assemble this much onscreen talent could match it with better writing/direction. Not the worst film you'll ever see but nowhere near one that could be classified as "good/quality."
