Disappointed
Before watching this remake, I watched the original which to my surprise I still enjoyed. It's not a movie with deep characters and plot, but it was enjoyable because it fitted the era it was filmed in.
To my guess they have tried to make a simular movie with cardboard characters and a simple plot. Except Gyllenhaal is no Swayze, he lacks the charisma, coolness and despite all his muscles he lacks the conviction to be an actual tough guy.
One other character who I liked to name is that of Knox played by mma fighter Conor McGregor. His character was so far over the top like McGregor is in real life. Walking as wide as a 7ft 300 pound man, while he's far from that. It was kinda funny but the guy really can't act
The action sequences were kind of hit or miss. Some were enjoyable (more than the original) but some looked so fake because of the CGI they've added to the scene to make it more flashy.
I've given this movie a 4 star rating, but thinking about it I think a 3 star rating is more suitable.
