Did you know
- TriviaThis was produced by ITN, the company behind the Poohverse, an MCU-style horror universe combining slasher films with Pinocchio, Bambi, and most famously Winnie the Pooh (it did all the popular Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey films). Popeye will not be part of that universe.
- GoofsThere is a scene where Popeye is killing a lady by apparently clenching her breast until it pops and then drowns her. Popeye is standing behind and above the girl, whom is sitting in a pool. However, when the breast pops under the sheer strength of Popeye's hand, his face is sprayed with blood that sprays in from a direction that would indicate the spray coming from directly in front of him, which makes no sense as the woman is not there, and the blood would definitely not come from that angle.
Featured review
I went into Popeye's Revenge with fairly low expectations, given its status as a public domain horror film, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much it delivered. While the script had its limitations, the acting was mostly solid all around, elevating the material beyond what I anticipated.
Visually, the film offers some beautifully composed shots, adding a surprising level of artistry to the horror elements within a budget. And for fans of the genre, the kills are very well executed, making for some standout moments (the hot tub!!).
One of the biggest surprises was the musical score, which added so much atmosphere and tension. It really helped elevate key scenes and gave the film a more polished, cinematic feel.
This kind of film is right up my street, and it exceeded my expectations in a big way. If you enjoy indie horror with a creative edge, I'd definitely recommend giving it a watch.
