Tom Burke and Steve Coogan are among the lineup of British stars joining Netflix’s upcoming thriller series “Legends.”

Created and written by Neil Forsyth, the series is inspired by a real-life criminal investigations following a group of British Customs employees sent undercover to infiltrate some of the U.K.’s most dangerous criminal drug gangs.

Also joining the cast are Hayley Squires, Aml Ameen, Jasmine Blackborow, Douglas Hodge, Tom Hughes, Johnny Harris, Gerald Kyd, Charlotte Ritchie.

“Legends” is set in the early 1990s, when Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise was losing its battle with illegal drug smuggling across Britain’s borders. Their solution was to send a small team of employees undercover. As per the synopsis: “But these were not trained spies. They were normal men and women, plucked from ordinary lives around the UK, put through a basic training regime and tasked with building new identities in the criminal underworld.

Steve Coogan, Tom Burke and Hayley Squires have boarded Netflix’s upcoming heist series Legends.

The London TV Screenings has confirmed its 2026 edition following a strong year. Organizers reported that the 2025 event brought in 850 buyers from around the world, marking the highest attendance since the showcase began.

Founded by All3Media International, Banijay Entertainment, Fremantle, and ITV Studios, the event has developed into a key platform for distributors and studios. The next edition is set for the final week of February 2026.

More than 35 companies participated in 2025, including Warner Bros. International Television Production, Disney, NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution, Sony Pictures Television, Paramount Global Content Distribution, Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, and StudioCanal. The event took place during the same week as Mip London, a new market from the organizers of MIPCOM.

The content and sales market, launched five years ago by independent distribution giants All3Media International, Banijay Entertainment, Fremantle and ITV Studios, is coming off a banner 2025, with a record 850 buyers worldwide attending last week’s event.

The founders confirmed plans are already underway for next year’s edition, which will be held in the final week of February 2026.

London has quickly established itself as the must-attend spring market for the international TV industry and slipped nicely into the gap left by the demise of long-running Cannes-based event MIPTV. The 2025 lineup included more than 35 distributors and studios running independent events. Alongside the four organizers, London featured a who’s who of studio and independents including Warner Bros. International Television Production, Disney, NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution, Sony Pictures Television, Paramount Global Content Distribution, Lionsgate Television, Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, Cineflix Rights, Fifth Season, StudioCanal and Beta Film.

The Molly-Mae documentary series “changed people’s expectations of her” and gave the influencer more space for her true self to come across, according to Prime Video UK head of TV licensing Hannah Blyth.

Blyth said popular docs like Molly-Mae: Behind it All about the influencer-content creator are helping the streamer reach younger, female audiences in the UK.

Chinese sales agent Rediance is expanding into distribution, attending EFM as a buyer for China for the first time, on the lookout for commercial auteur films, both new releases and library titles.

It has established a new Beijing-­based joint venture, in collaboration with Zhijiang Pictures Media (Zhejiang) and China Magic Film, for theatrical distribution and marketing in mainland China, aiming to handle six to eight films per year. Exclusive: Bodyguard star Keeley Hawes is set to lend her voice to narrate Airborne, a four-part tentpole series from UK-based Humble Bee Films, for Love Nature and Sky Nature.

Now that they’ve set the year’s best film for a December 10 debut, the Criterion Channel have unveiled the rest of next month’s selection. John Waters’ films are inseparable from John Waters’ presence, making fitting Criterion’s decision to pair an eight-film retrospective (Multiple Maniacs to Cecil B. Demented) with his own “Adventures in Moviegoing” wherein the director extols virtues of Bergman, Chabrol, Barbara Loden, and Samuel Fuller. His own Polyester will have a Criterion Edition alongside the Bob Dylan doc Don’t Look Back, an iconic film in its own right and, I think, fitting companion to The Unknown with Lon Chaney, also streaming on Criterion. No Country for Old Men and Election receive likewise treatment; the latter appears in “MTV Productions,” a series featuring Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, The Original Kings of Comedy, and (coming close to Freddy Got Fingered for least-expected 2024 addition) Jackass: the Movie.

Acclaimed actress Shu Qi has completed filming her directorial debut feature Girl, a Taiwanese drama executive produced by veteran Yeh Jufeng.

Taiwan-born Shu does not appear in the film but has written the script, based on an original story that she has worked on at length. The plot and the cast remain under wraps. Cinematographer Yu Jin-ping, whose credits include Oscar-nominated Better Days and Fish Memories, serves as DoP. A release is scheduled for 2025.

The film is backed by Cmc Entertainment, Wow momentum, J.Q. Pictures and Aranya Pictures. It is produced by Yeh’s Taiwan-based Mandarin Vision, which also handles international sales outside mainland China.

Taiwanese top actress Shu Qi has finished production on her directorial debut feature, Girl, which is scheduled for a 2025 release.

She is known for starring in Hou Hsiao-hsien’s Millennium Mumbo, Three Times and The Assassin, as well as Feng Xiaogang’s If You Are The One.

She has also won two Golden Horse Awards and three Hong Kong Film Awards for her acting roles.

She was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in 2024. She served as a jury member at Berlinale in 2008, Cannes in 2009 and Venice in 2023.

Girl is financed by Cmc Entertainment, Wow Momentum, J.Q. Pictures and Aranya Pictures, and produced by Mandarin Vision.

The film is executed produced by veteran producer Yeh Jufeng, who also worked together with Shu Qi on the 2017 comedy The Village of No Return.

“I am so happy that the filming is wrapped,” Shu Qi said.

While plot and cast details of the new film remain under wraps, “Girl” is Shu Qi’s original story that she wrote and directed after a prolonged development period. Shu Qi does not appear in the film.

The picture is financed by Taiwan’s Cmc Entertainment, Wow momentum, J.Q. Pictures and Aranya Pictures, and produced by Mandarin Vision. The film is executive produced by Yeh Jufeng, a Midas-like producer behind “A Sun,” “The Great Buddha+” and the Shu Qi-starring “The Village of No Return.”

The film is expected to be completed at an unspecified date in 2025. Mandarin Vision also serves as the film’s international sales agent, outside mainland China.

“I am so happy that the filming is wrapped. I look forward to sharing this film with audiences everywhere,” Shu Qi said in a prepared statement.

Taiwanese actress Shu Qi has wrapped production on her directorial debut — a project previously kept under wraps. Production company Mandarin Vision released a teaser image for the new film, titled Girl, along with a shot of Shu behind the camera during a recent location shoot.

Described as an original story written and directed by Shu, the film is scheduled for release in Asia sometime in 2025, according to the producers. It’s unclear whether Shu will also perform in Girl. Mandarin Vision declined to share additional information about the project.

Paris-based sales and distribution company Les Films du Losange has boarded “Resurrection,” a sci-fi detective movie directed by Chinese director Bi Gan, whose 2018 film “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” played at Cannes.

Headlined by Chinese-language stars Jackson Yee (“Better Days”) and Shu Qi (“The Assassin”), the movie recently wrapped the second part of its shooting schedule. It is expected to resume filming in the fourth quarter of this year.

“Resurrection” tells the story of a woman whose consciousness falls into the “eternal time zone” during a surgical procedure. Trapped in many dreams, she finds an android corpse and tries to wake it up by telling it stories. The android then wanders through her stories and its senses gradually awaken.

Co-produced by Charles Gillibert’s CG Cinema, the project marks Bi’s first film since “Long Day’s Journey Into Night,” which contained a bravura final 59-minute sequence consisting of a single shot in 3D.
