Overall A Good Entertainer In Drama Genre

BUTAS (word from tagalog language in philippines) Means a Hole

First Of All This Is An 18+ Nudity Containing Movie.

And I found about this movie randomly somewhere on internet, and suddenly I don't know why but watched it (not pirated).

Even I don't know this language(yeah it had english subtitles).

So let's go further to main point without boring you.

The plot and Story Was Simple But Unique, The intimate scenes were Perfectly done well.

The acting of three of the four actors was good.

The film doesn't make you bore.

Film has ups and downs in story and flows.

Sometimes it gets very serious about it's morals and at the other side it goes out of logic.

Twist was unexpected (spoilers so I won't tell that)

So that's all from me guys I'm not a pro reviewer but I don't know how and why I watched this movie and before watching I tried to find reviews but no one did. And after coming from watching movie, I've decided to review this because nobody did, So peoples who are willing to watch or going to watch can know little bit about this

So guys this was my review I can't explain plot and whole things because of spoilers but this was what I felt

I hope you understood.

A Missed Opportunity in Emotional Storytelling

The 2024 film Butas sets out to delve into complex and emotional themes, yet struggles with execution and storytelling. The plot, centered on the lives of four young individuals in a boarding house, feels overly contrived and, at times, tiresome. Though the movie attempts to explore profound ideas like identity, vulnerability, and self-discovery, it fails to create a meaningful emotional connection with the audience, largely due to underdeveloped characters and a shallow storyline.

One of the film's main weaknesses lies in the performances of its cast. While seasoned actors like Angela Morena and Albie Casiño play the lead roles, their portrayals feel unconvincing and flat. Instead of allowing characters to grow and evolve naturally, they fall into clichéd roles that don't inspire empathy or engagement from viewers.

Directorially, Butas is similarly lackluster. Dado C. Lumibao's approach lacks the coherence and balance needed to transform the film's emotional themes into a compelling narrative. Some scenes drag unnecessarily, attempting to increase impact but instead slowing down the film's pace to an uncomfortable crawl.

Moreover, the soundtrack does not complement the story's mood or setting. At points, it even adds an air of discordance to the film, disrupting immersion rather than enhancing it. This mismatch between music and visual scenes makes it harder for audiences to follow along with the intended emotional beats of the story.

In summary, while Butas aims to tackle socially relevant and emotionally resonant topics, it falls short due to weak storytelling, superficial character development, and uneven directing. This leaves it as a middling film experience that struggles to captivate or resonate deeply with its viewers.
