Directed by Rodney Ascher, best known for his horror-focused documentaries Room 237 and The Nightmare, Ghost Boy approaches its subject Martin Pistorius from, at times, the same perspective of his last feature A Glitch in the Matrix: locked in an infinite loop that suggests a simulation of life. In 1988, at age twelve, Pistorius became mysteriously ill with a sore throat. His condition rapidly deteriorated, leaving him unable to walk and feed himself. His family, initially supportive as they started slumber parties with him, became overwhelmed. A seemingly normal childhood in South Africa was upended overnight and he was ultimately sent to the Alfa and Omega Special Care Centre where he was abandoned, neglected, and abused by staff.

Like Alexandre O. Philippe, Rodney Ascher is a director who pushes the interpretive limits of what a documentary can do, something he made abundantly clear with his 2012 film Room 237. Named after the mysterious hotel suite in The Shining, this festival favorite gave a platform to some of the most bizarre readings of Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 horror imaginable. The theories raised ranged from the esoteric to the ridiculous, but Ascher’s straightforward, non-judgmental approach proved surprisingly effective; though it has long been debunked, the fanciful thought that Kubrick made the film to exorcize his guilt about faking the moon landing footage in 1969 is enticing and still hard to shake off.

You ever watch something so weird, so wildly unhinged, that you walk out of the theater grinning like a lunatic, half-convinced you just hallucinated the whole thing? That’s The Monkey—a gloriously deranged fever dream of cruel deaths, deep-seated childhood trauma, and cackling absurdity. Imagine Twin Peaks if it was directed by John Waters, but with a murderous toy monkey at its core. Osgood Perkins has officially lost his mind in the best way possible, delivering the best Stephen King adaptation in decades.
“..so weird, so wildly unhinged, that [you’ll] walk out of the theater grinning like a lunatic”
It all starts when twin brothers Hal and Bill (played as children by Christian Convery and as adults by Theo James) stumble upon their father’s old toy monkey in a closet. The thing looks like it’s been pulled straight from a cursed auction listing, complete with piercing glass eyes...

Today we are going to dissect David Lynch; a dealer of dreams, a merchant of mysteries and moods, a fanciful gentleman with a great wave on his head, and above all, an artist who never shies away from showing hideousness of human nature. In this session, we will focus on integral organs of the Lynchian body. This is going to be bloody, and when I say bloody, I mean it. If you are squeamish, I reckon you should stop right here, ‘cause I don’t want my room stinkin’ with your barf, that’s for sure. But if you want to peep into something you shouldn’t be seeing, if you want to say hello to the mystery man, in short, if you’re a true fan of Lynch, jump like a rabbit and enter the Red Room where my dog barks some.

A dreaded wildfire has raged through the California city of Malibu, causing immense destruction and the evacuation of thousands of its citizens. Thousands of residents were evacuated but by Thursday over 3,700 citizens were allowed to return to their homes. Among them was Van Dyke, who recounted his terrifying tale with the Today Show. Over the past decade or so, the gaming industry has settled on a (quite inflexible) formula for any titles that are based on celebrated horror flicks. No matter the licence in question — be it a feted great like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a cult B-movie on the level of Killer Klowns From Outer Space, or even the straight-to-video Puppet Master series— it seems that the default model for these adaptations nowadays always has to be asymmetrical multiplayer.

Mortal Kombat 2 producer Todd Garner has unveiled an exciting tease for the film's big bad, Shao Kahn. The upcoming installment of the popular video game adaptation will hit theaters on October 24, 2025.
Garner posted a silhouette image of the menacing ruler of Outworld on X (formerly known as Twitter), teasing Shao Kahn's look and costume for Mortal Kombat 2. British bodybuilder, social media personality, and actor Martyn Ford will portray the iconic villain, having previously appeared in movies such as Undisputed IV, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and Redcon-1. The 6 feet 8 inches (203 cm) tall Ford, nicknamed The Nightmare, possesses the physicality required for the role. Garner stated last year while announcing the sequel had entered production, that Mortal Kombat 2 would address the shortcomings of the first installment.

The Nightmare Before Christmas introduced the world to the love story between Jack Skellington and Sally, but one small detail makes their inevitable romance even more perfect. Released in 1993, Tim Burton is often wrongly attributed as The Nightmare Before Christmas director, but he merely provided the story and rough character designs. It was director Henry Selick, the stop-motion master, who made the movie come to life, and writers Caroline Thompson and Michael McDowell, who are responsible for The Nightmare Before Christmas' memorable quotes.
Still, Burton's fingerprints are all over the movie. His whimsical goth aesthetic is distinct and immediately recognizable, and The Nightmare Before Christmas is no exception to this. He originally conceived the idea when he saw Christmas and Halloween decorations together in a store window and thought about bringing the two holidays together. The result is one of the most visually distinct, unique movies from top to bottom.

When you think of The Nightmare Before Christmas, which holiday comes to mind? Whether the animated classic should be watched during the Halloween or Christmas season remains one of cinema's most contested questions. Released on October 29, 1993 (which is perhaps a rather compelling argument for the Halloween side of the debate), The Nightmare Before Christmas was a commercial and critical success. It gained an Oscar nomination and eventually inspired one of the most pronounced cult followings of all time. Considered a marvel of animation and stop-motion technology, it will go down in history as one of Tim Burton's greatest creative achievements. Yet, it seems to break a convention of holiday cinema in that it cannot be defined by any one holiday.
Thus, with the popularity of the film and its nebulous status as simultaneously a Halloween and Christmas movie, it remains a hot topic (see what I did there?) of discussion.

This year, Wes Craven’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” Wes Craven’s immortal horror classic, turns 40.
The film, inspired by true events (watch the documentary “The Nightmare” for more), follows a group of kids who die after encountering a spooky boogeyman named Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). Freddy is the classic god of mischief – a shapeshifting serial killer with the power to scare teenagers to death. Heather Langenkamp plays Nancy Thompson, one of the terrorized teens who discovers her own familial connection to Krueger.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street” would spawn an enviable franchise, including sequels (Langenkamp would return for “Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors” and “New Nightmare”), a television series, a 1-900 number where you could chat with Freddy (seriously), oodles of merchandise, a spin-off (2003’s “Freddy vs. Jason”) and a remake (among other things). If you’re fortunate enough to have a healthy sleep experience then the terms gamma-aminobutyric acid and glycine probably won’t mean much to you. If not, you may find yourself thinking about them a lot. They’re the two chemicals that regulate movement during sleep. Whilst most people enjoy a happy medium, at one end of the scale there’s sleep paralysis (as explored in Rodney Ascher’s fascinating documentary The Nightmare and at the other end there’s sleepwalking. A shocking 58% of sleepwalkers exhibit some degree of violence towards themselves or others whilst in that state. This can be very difficult to live with – both for the sleepwalkers themselves and for their loved ones – and it’s a theme explored by Jason Yu in his impressive début film, which has been winning praise all around the world.

The movies of Tim Burton arent explicitly connected to each other, but theres a popular theory connecting some of his most famous works, and another one adds to it while also explaining the origins of The Nightmare Before Christmas Sally. Tim Burton is one of the most beloved filmmakers of his generation thanks to his unique visual style and the type of stories he tells in his movies. Burtons filmmaking career began in 1985 with Pee-wees Big Adventure, and three years later, he fully displayed his style in Beetlejuice.
The following year, Burton joined the world of superheroes with Batman, and since then, he has mixed adaptations of other works with original stories, all of them with his unique style and a combination of horror, comedy, and gothic elements. Burton also adds some of his characters to other movies in Easter eggs, and while this doesnt mean they are connected, it...

Sequels have become a given in Hollywood especially after a movie with an original idea is successful. However, Henry Selick, the director behind The Nightmare Before Christmas, has ruled out a follow-up to his successful 1993 stop-motion film.
"It's been discussed forever at various times in the past," Selick told GamesRadar+ when asked if he had ever considered developing a sequel. "I was told 'Oh, we want to do a sequel, but it has to be CGI' and I said 'No, absolutely not,'" he continued. "But you don't want to ruin something by, killing the golden goose. Doing a sequel or a prequel can destroy that. I mean, by the time of Jaws six, the shark movies they'd really beat that shark to death."

Dead By Daylight has entertained fans for over eight years by introducing new Survivors, maps, and Killers to keep the gameplay loop fresh and exciting. Those eight years have given Behavior Interactive time to create a huge roster of Killers, ranging from the original three to crossovers with some of the greatest horror franchises of the modern era.
Excluding the Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Nurse, and Huntress, all extra Killers must be purchased through their associated Dlc, called a Chapter in-game. This makes it hard to know which Killers are worth the extra cost and which ones you can gloss over. A Killer's strength is best gauged by their unique ability and the skills they can later pass on to other Killers.

Last week, the 42nd Brussels International Film Festival played host to the world premiere of The Nightmare director Jay Song’s new South Korean thriller, 4Pm. Inspired by the Belgian novel “Les Catilinaires”, from celebrated author Amélie Nothomb, which was published in English as The Stranger Next Door, Brussels was a fitting venue to debut this new interpretation. ScreenAnarchy sat down with actors Oh Dal-su, Jang Young-nam, Kim Hong-pa and Gong Jae-kyung, as well as the film's director, Jay Song, the morning after the film's premiere. Renowned character actor Oh Dal-su lands a rare lead role as Jung-in, a philosophy professor who moves to the countryside on sabbatical with his wife Hyun-suk (Jang Young-nam). After settling into their new bucolic digs, the couple approach the...

Rhea Ripley stands out as one of the most powerful female wrestlers globally today. Her remarkable physique, characterized by significant muscle mass, sets her apart from the average wrestler. This impressive physique is the result of rigorous gym sessions and a disciplined diet.
Initially, Ripley’s body was noticeably leaner when she began her career, lacking the muscular definition that now defines her. Over the years, her physique has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving impressively to its current state.
Rhea Ripley’s Insane Body Transformation Is Truly Inspirational
What a difference seven years can make. The evolution of a WWE Superstar throughout their career is something fans truly appreciate, and Rhea Ripley exemplifies this notion perfectly. Her journey demonstrates that the early stages of a wrestler’s career may not accurately depict the Superstar they’ll become in the future. However, this transformation hasn’t always been smooth sailing for Ripley.

The Nightmare Before Christmas incorporates a Disney princess movie trope with Jack Skellington's "I Want" song, which is unconventional yet critical to his character arc. The inclusion of a princess scene trend in a dark and macabre film like The Nightmare Before Christmas is unexpected but adds to its uniqueness. Sally, a ragdoll created by a mad scientist, becomes the most unconventional and macabre princess in Disney's history in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The Nightmare Before Christmas surprisingly makes use of a movie scene trend that frequents Disney princess films. In a way, it seems odd that the type of scene in question emerges in Tim Burton's dark fantasy, as it has become an integral and characterizing aspect of 15 of Disney's much lighter, princess-centered animations. Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas purports an overall dreary, holiday-inspired premise by following Halloween Town's "Pumpkin King" as he organizes the settlement's annual Halloween celebration,...

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… Let’s see what went down on this week’s show!
Match #1: Drew McIntyre def. Jey Uso The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Following on from their intense war of words, The Scottish Warrior and “Main Event” Jey Uso reignited their rivalry in the ring. As the two battled back-and-forth, the top-rope turnbuckle got dislodged. The Scottish Warrior used this to his advantage, raking the eyes of Uso with the referees back turned. This allowed McIntyre to hit the Claymore, earning the win.
My Score: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Rhea Ripley def. Maxxine Dupri The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The Nightmare Before Christmas combines the festive genres of Halloween and Christmas in a whimsical and creative way. The video spoofs a scene where Jack discovers portals to different holiday-themed lands, leaving the audience curious about the potential crossover possibilities in the sequel.

Henry Selick directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, not Tim Burton, despite the confusion caused by the marketing credit. Burton's involvement in creating the story and characters warranted his name being put on the film for recognition and to avoid confusion with other horror films. The Nightmare Before Christmas was a seminal work in Selick's career, establishing him as a major voice in stop-motion animation, and he deserves credit for directing it.
The Nightmare Before Christmas director opens up about the long-held confusion about Tim Burton directing the film. Released in 1993, The Nightmare Before Christmas has often been billed as “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” on posters and other promotional material. This has, understandably, led to the belief that Burton directed the film when in reality, it was stop-motion visionary Henry Selick.

Catherine O’Hara will reprise her “Sally” character from 1993’s The Nightmare Before Christmas for one of three 30th anniversary concerts at the Hollywood Bowl just in time for Halloween.
The concert will reunite O’Hara with her Nightmare co-star Danny Elfman, who will sing the Jack Skellington role all three nights, Oct. 27-29. Elfman wrote the music for the 1993 Disney animated film.
Singer-songwriter Halsey will perform the role of Sally on the first two nights of the concert series – October 27 and 28, with O’Hara taking over for the Oct. 29 show. Other concert guests include Fred Armisen (as Lock), Riki Lindhome (as Shock) and Ken Page (Oogie Boogie). Conductor John Mauceri will lead the full orchestra and choir.
Although the concert was announced last month, the star line-up was just unveiled. “It’s impossible to believe it has been thirty years since Tim Burton made our strange little musical,” Elfman said in September.

Tim Burton's rejection of Disney's request to give Jack Skellington eyes was crucial to preserving the character's distinct design and ensuring the long-term success of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Jack Skellington's unique design, with his sunken eyes and wide smile, has become an iconic symbol of the film and contributes to its continued popularity and recognition. The decision to keep Jack Skellington's face devoid of eyes allowed Tim Burton to convey emotions and expressions through unconventional means, enhancing the character's appeal.
Disney had a request for Jack Skellington’s design that would have caused massive changes for The Nightmare Before Christmas had Tim Burton not rejected it, likely harming its long-term success and adoration. Tim Burton is highly notable for his unique character designs, with a gothic mood and eerie, almost uncomfortable configurations for his protagonists. This article discusses sensitive topics including child sexual abuse, murder, suicide, and genocide.
While some documentaries can be an easy watch, others give even the most disturbing horror movies a run for their money. Unlike fictional narrative movies, documentaries are theoretically constrained in what they can depict. Through techniques like re-enactments, dramatizations, and selective editing, documentaries can make reality conform to the structure of a story. However, documentaries are built on authentic footage, the lives of real people, and events that took place in reality. In contrast, fictional movies can focus on any far-fetched plot that the filmmakers come up with, and they have no fidelity to reality.
Despite this, sometimes documentaries prove even more intense than horror movies no matter how high their body counts. The documentaries listed here touch on intense, sensitive subjects ranging from institutional child abuse to suicide to genocide and the Holocaust. While these are tough topics,...

Among other consumer benefits, one major upside to the increasing niche-ification of popular culture has been the continuing emergence of esoteric micro-genres of film and TV. Twenty years ago, you might not necessarily think of “horror documentaries” as its own subgenre. Sure, there were documentaries that maybe fell a little more on the creepy/unsettling side, but it was rare that a nonfiction film would be tailored to appeal to a horror-first genre audience. Now, of course, things are different. In recent years, a robust tradition of terrifying nonfiction films have emerged, many as terrifying – or even more eerie – than their traditional narrative counterparts.

Alongside numerous other films released directly to Warner Brother’s streaming platform Max (formerly known as HBO Max) in 2021, there was also a new entry into the long line of live-action adaptations for an iconic video game, Mortal Kombat.
Quickly becoming praised by fans and critics alike who pointed out that the martial arts fantasy movie was much more faithful to the lore of the best-selling franchise than past productions, they also celebrated the fact that this modern reboot was not afraid to show the more gruesome and violent side of the fights just like they were depicted when the first Mortal Kombat came out in 1992. With our favorite characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, and Goro more powerful than ever before, fatalities never looked so satisfying.

When Bhavnani first wrote a horror story ‘Bearlike Man’ that was selected at Bifan (Korea), the largest genre festival in Asia, she found herself to be the first Indian woman director to be on the platform ever.
"We were practically non-existent in that space. Over the three decades I looked at, 9.9 per cent of directors were women. Horror comes with just 5.9 per cent of directors being women and Sci-fi – 2.8 per cent. I find this statistic offensive. Wench 2022 showcased 47 horror /sci-fi/fantasy films — 43 of them directed by women," she tells Ians.
Believing that India has not really explored horror in its truest potential or form, the filmmaker feels there is no better medium to highlight social change than this genre.
"And there are so many different ways to make them instead of the cliche knee-jerk horror that we all know of," she asserts.

With Netflix’s recent emphasis on creating their own movies to fill up their vast digital library, there has been less importance placed on older, licensed films from other studios. But March’s slate of new Netflix movies is a potent mixture of Netflix original films and titles from elsewhere, making for a rich bouquet of springtime entertainment. (You heard us.)
Below are the very best new movies on Netflix this month – from horrifying nightmares to ace fighter pilots to “My Best Friend’s Wedding” (and everything in between).
Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) New Line Cinema
Two “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies are making their debut on Netflix this month – both Wes Craven’s 1984 original and a widely derided 2010 remake starring Rooney Mara and Jackie Earle Haley. We suggest you stick with the original, which introduced the world to Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), the burnt, razor-fingered child predator who returns in dreams to seek his revenge.
