A new series is in the works at NBC that will be exciting news for fans of 30 Rock. The network has put in a pilot order for a potential new show that would reunite Tracy Morgan with some members of the 30 Rock team.

Per Deadline, NBC has committed to a pilot for an untitled single-camera comedy series featuring Morgan in the lead role. He's reuniting with 30 Rock co-showrunners Tina Fey and Robert Carlock along with writer Sam Means for the pilot. The story will see Morgan playing a "disgraced former football player who is on a mission to rehabilitate his image." No other cast members have yet been revealed, and it's unclear if Fey will also have an on-screen role. Casting is reportedly underway.

At first glance, a revival of the prank show “Scare Tactics” seems like an odd fit for Monkeypaw, the production company founded by Jordan Peele and behind such blockbuster hits like “Nope” and “Monkey Man.” But the more you dive into USA Network’s new project, the more the reality series makes sense for one of the more ambitious, meticulous and genre-bending companies in Hollywood.

Created by Scott Hallock and Kevin Healey, the original “Scare Tactics” premiered on Syfy in 2003. The series follows a simple premise: Each episode chronicles a group of “victims” who have been placed in a horrific situation made real by Hollywood magic and trained actors.

“You’re trying to make a horror movie for [the subjects], but for the audience, you’re trying to make a comedy,” Win Rosenfeld, president of Monkeypaw, told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “We’re not trying to traumatize anyone for life.

Hardly a month after MTV’s Punk’d premiered in 2003, The Sci-Fi Channel (now Syfy) debuted its own unique take on the hidden-camera format. Both series indeed played elaborate pranks on folks, but Scare Tactics set itself apart by placing everyday people in horror movie-like scenarios. This creep-show survived on its concept for a good five seasons before finally closing up shop. However, much like any other lucrative horror franchise, there is always that possibility of a comeback.
