This is definitely going in my top Christmas romance favorites. It's not ground breaking by any means but it was so well done that I hardly cared it was predictable. Alexa and Carlos PeneVega are so well matched in acting. I had no idea they were so well matched in harmonious singing too. Alexa in particular stunned me when she started singing. The plot line you probably already are familiar with. Childhood friends that share a passion for music writing and singing. She goes off to follow her dreams and missed the hidden song that explains his feelings asking her to stay. Eight years later, after her celebrity "break up," she decides to go back home. They reconnect and it was like no time at all has passed. She wants his help in writing a song to get her celebrity boyfriend back; leading to some wonderful singing, sweet moments that were really brought to life between these two real life love birds, and Christmas themed background. You will recognize the general plot if you have watched any Hallmark or GAF romance. I still loved every second of it and was bummed when it was over. I look forward to the PeneVegas next movie, I have seen everything they make. I was so very disappointed that we have no more Picture Perfect Mystery. I adored that series.
Bella enlists her high school musical partner, Jack, to win back her megastar boyfriend, Sage, who dumped her. Her obsession with winning him back immediately brought my opinion of her down. It is sadly pathetic for a while. It's not a new concept leading to these collaborators developing feelings for each other. There is another developing romance between Jack's bro, Matt, and his crush, Mia. Matt is a little slow and apparently so is Mia.
The looming conflict becomes apparent about half way through. It is another common trope where one lead has a scheduling conflict. Jack ups the ante on it with an original song about Bella performed in an empty Cowboy stadium. The song is well done and the whole scene is dramatic. That's followed by even more drama. In fact quite a bit happens. It becomes quite a good story.
I was surprised at the chemistry there was between the real-life married couple, Alexa and Carlos Penavega. There were moments it seemed off and others they were right on.
There is a lot of singing, at least if you count Bella and Jack doing the song. I was pleasantly surprised by Alexa Penavega's performances. Carlos wasn't bad either. I mentioned Jack's performance and then there's another by Bella, then Bella and Jack to close. The ending is sweet, sappy, borderline almost cheesy, and funny.
Mario Lopez makes several appearances as himself giving reports from the TV show Access Hollywood.

I love this movie. It is so much fun. Such a wholesome movie. The movie is family oriented and pulls at heart strings. I love the characters and feels so warm and welcoming. Enjoyed every minute of it. I also love how inclusive it is and opens space and opportunities for those with special needs. They are put in main character roles instead in the lesser roles. They are also not made fun of. This reminds of wholesomeness and hot coco and family. It reminds me to dream in love and desire something beyond me. It was funny and cute and love the message in the movie and it is not just cheese. I loved it.
