For a long-running TV show, child actors are almost always a headache. Putting aside all the ethical ramifications of thrusting someone into the public eye at such a young age, there's the simple fact that kids grow and change in ways that often contradict what the series itself is going for. Sometimes the actor hits puberty and starts getting too self-conscious, or sometimes they simply hit puberty too soon (or too late) and that changes the sort of storylines the writers can do with them.
"Mad Men" lucked out: it only had two main child actors to deal with, and they struck gold with one of them. Kiernan Shipka, who plays Sally Draper, sticks around for the whole series, getting plenty of her own storylines to work with. But with the actors who played Bobby Draper, who's about three years younger than Sally, it was a different story. The first...

Amsterdam-based Big Blue is set to produce the upcoming series “Kiss My Feet,” alongside Finnish company Helsinki-filmi.
Selected for Series Mania’s Forum Co-Pro Pitching Sessions, the six-episode drama is created by Daan Gielis and Mark Van De Grift, loosely based on their own experiences.
In the show, successful marketer Max finds himself in a spiritual community in Finland, trying to help out his brother Lucas – apparently, his mysterious guru is interested in building an international brand. Soon, Max and his girlfriend Daphne’s view on family, and trust, will drastically change.
“I know writer Daan Gielis very well, we have worked together before and this project was always simmering somewhere. It’s such an unusual story. Some people are very invested in spiritual communities, others prefer to stay away. What if that division happens within one couple?,” said Big Blue’s CEO Fleur Winters.

Things have been almost frighteningly quiet at this year’s MIPTV international television market, which runs through Wednesday in Cannes, but a trickle of deal announcements suggests that while cutbacks and cost-cutting may be the order of the day, some business is still being done.
French giant Studiocanal on Tuesday unveiled a flurry of territory sales for two new Belgium thrillers, The Crash and 1985, both based on real-life events, that are part of the company’s MIPTV slate.
The Crash is a dramatization of the 1992 airline disaster, in which El Al Flight 1862 to Tel Aviv crashed into two jam-packed residential high-rises in the suburbs of Amsterdam. 1985 tells the story of Belgium’s most notorious, unsolved crime spree involving a series of violent attacks, believed to be carried out by three men, which resulted in the death of 28 people.

Is it a sexually depraved nightmare or artistic triumph? Critics and audiences were divided on David Cronenberg's "Crash." Based on J.G. Ballard's equally controversial novel, "Crash" follows film producer James Ballard (James Spader), who has a detached relationship with his wife Catherine (Deborah Kara Unger). They have an open marriage and eagerly share the details of their trysts with one another, but James feels unenthusiastic about sex in general. Everything changes when he gets into a serious car accident that leads him to discover an underground subculture of car-crash sexual fetishism. Both James and Catherine find sexual euphoria in the perverse fusion of flesh and metal.
Despite the highly sexual content, "Crash" is anything but titillating. Cronenberg's clinical direction, the...

Put Jared Harris into your television series, and it rockets your chances of having a hit show. The British actor talked through some of his career highlights – playing advertising exec Lane Pryce in AMC’s “Mad Men,” King George VI in Netflix’s “The Crown” and Soviet inorganic chemist Valery Legasov in HBO’s “Chernobyl” – in a 90-minute masterclass during Canneseries Live.
Harris recalled how Emmy award-winning “Mad Men” showrunner Matthew Weiner called him into his office after the read-through of episode 10. “As soon as Matt is offering you a huge slab of whiskey in the middle of the day, I knew something was wrong,” Harris said.
Then came the apology alongside the news that Lane was being killed off. “But when he told me how he was going to do it, I literally fell off my chair laughing because I knew how clever it was,” Harris added.

Dianna Agron has come a long way since her days playing a rebellious, acapella-singing cheerleader on Glee. This year alone, she's portrayed a slick hacker in a dystopian not-so-distant future (The Crash), a conflicted nun, Sister Mary Grace (Novitiate), and her role in the upcoming crime thriller, Hollow in the Land, may be her darkest and grittiest yet.
In this exclusive clip, Agron's Alison sets out to uncover the truth when her brother is involved in a brutal murder, but is warned by The Twilight Saga's Rachelle Lefevre not to play amateur detective: "I don't want to see you get into something you can't back away from."
Vertical Entertainment
Hollow in the Land marks the feature directorial debut of Scooter Corkle (who, fun fact, was a grip on Air Buddies -- talk about versatility!), who says of casting Agron, "Dianna has this natural ability to just pop into character. She's got this bubbly, excitable energy always...

Old to-catch-a-thief cliches get dusted off and mangled in The Crash, Aram Rappaport's macroeconomic technodrama in which a stock-market hacker is recruited by the feds to protect the New York Stock Exchange from unknown terrorists. No film in which the Chairman of the Federal Reserve (played here by Christopher McDonald) is the most colorful character can be said to have much grip on reality, but this one is further off the mark than even that suggests; theatrically and on video, its stock will tank quickly enough to test the reflexes of a high-frequency trading algorithm.

Part rejected network pilot, part Michael Crichton-esque what-if, the clumsy, cheap-looking sort-of thriller The Crash presents a very near future in which the U.S. government secretly enlists a white-collar crook from Chicago named Guy Clifton (Frank Grillo) to put together a team of hackers and analysts who can stop an imminent computer attack on the stock market. Whatever fun one might have with this junky premise is neutralized by the fact that the movie has zero narrative momentum. At once oversimplified and overcomplicated—the type of film where shadowy elites cackle sinisterly while meeting at an abandoned carnival in broad daylight—The Crash fumbles between bad diatribe and bad domestic drama, complete with subplots about absent parents and childhood cancer. Only occasionally does writer-director Aram Rappaport remember that what he’s supposed to be making is a bad techno-thriller, the kind where people shout information at each other...

When you think of actor Frank Grillo, you think of a tough guy. Whether he’s fighting Captain America as Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or trying to survive in “The Purge” franchise, Grillo is always in the middle of the action. With that being said, it’s odd to see him play the role of a master hacker in his new film, “The Crash.”
In the first trailer for the thriller, Grillo plays Guy Clifton, a financial genius on his way to jail for hacking the stock market, and is enlisted by the government to prevent a cyber attack that could bankrupt the United States of America.

"The hacker will save the world." Vertical Entertainment has debuted a trailer for a film called The Crash, about a stock market crash in the "near future". Described as a "fast-paced, save-the-world thriller" about a stock market criminal who is secretly hired by the government to run a "shadow" stock market in order to keep the economy stable. This has an oddly impressive ensemble cast: Dianna Agron, Minnie Driver, Frank Grillo, John Leguizamo, Maggie Q, AnnaSophia Robb, Mary McCormack, Ed Westwick, Andrew James Allen and Christopher McDonald. As interesting as this may look, it actually seems to be some seriously absurd stock market propaganda, about how important the stock market is to the stability of the country. Truth is, it is bad, we'd be better off without it. But they don't want you to think about that. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Aram Rappaport's The Crash, direct from...

After taking up the mantle from Ethan Hawke for The Purge: Anarchy last year, Variety brings word that Frank Grillo has entered final negotiations to reprise his role as the hard-boiled sergeant Leo Barnes for Universal and Blumhouse’s The Purge 3.
Should everything go according to plan, Grillo won’t be the only one returning for another purge, with writer/director James DeMonaco on board for the third installment in the twisted horror series, due to hit theaters next summer. Cooking up another violent spin on America’s most violent – and yet legal – night of the year, DeMonaco will once again delve into the creative playground of his alternate future setting, one which imagines a scenario wherein all crime is legal for a 12-hour period.
