I watched this movie with my family because my daughter is a big Victoria Justice fan. I thought I was going to have suffer through another mediocre high school themed movie but was pleasantly surprised. My 18 year old son and my husband were both emotional at the end. It teaches some really good life lessons and I highly recommend for kids 13 years of age and older. Having lived in NYC at different times in my life, it was wonderful to see the familiar landmarks throughout the film. Both my teenagers loved the movie and as I mentioned my husband was moved as well. I think this movie is a great conversation starter with teen aged kids!
Do you have a soulmate? Someone who you can share everything with, someone you have everything in common with and known for your whole life? A friend whom you love so dearly you sometimes confuse it with real/romantic love? If so, I think, you will find yourself liking this movie a lot!!
When you have a friend in world class whom you never want to part with the worst feeling in the world can be if your friend finds himself another friend OR a boyfriend/girlfriend who might come in between your friendship. Sometimes it is hard to accept that everything cannot stay the way it always has - everything changes as you grow up.
Naomi and Ely have been best friends and lived next to each other their whole lives. They know everything about each other and share everything. Ely is gay which lets them have a very intimate relationship without having to be afraid of falling in love with each other. Everything starts to change when a guy gets in the picture and it suddenly is no longer just Naomi and Ely. The fair of having to share Ely with others makes Naomi sad and a bit passive aggressive - she wants him all to herself and wants everything to stay the same. But maybe change isn't so bad after all. If the friendship is real it will survive everything. And one might learn that love can be many things.
Everyone has their own opinion. In my opinion this movie was a blast to watch and it really just spoke to me!!! I value friendship very much and I know what it is like to feel like you have a soulmate and you are afraid it won't always stay the same way! I feel certain I will watch it again very soon!
PS PLEASE don't be absurd and hate this movie JUST BECAUSE there are gay people involved!!

I loved the movie. It was funny and also soothing for a nice relaxing afternoon. I think that this is a great story about friendship and love, also about growing old and changing. Not all change is bad and the movie handles very well the idea that not all relationships are perfect, not even between best friends.
The cast is great, relatable and have great chemistry, therefore the characters feel real and not forced into the plot. Bruce 1 per example is a magnificent secondary character who brings a lot of comedic elements and also funny scenes.
Above all, you can get lost in the movie and be happy for a bit over an hour, forget about your problems and have fun.

I went in wanting to assess Matthew Daddario's acting so I had little to no expectations.
It's a nice little movie with a good pace, great music and excellent costumes.
Victoria's acting did nothing for me. At no point in the movie did I feel her despair, excitement or any other emotion she was apparently experiencing. Pierson was amazing, touching, sensitive and sensible. Sadly, Victoria was giving him so little material to work with, he often came out too strong and overtly emotional. Still, an actor I will watch out for.
So I went in for him but he was the biggest disappointment. I found he played his character the same way he plays Alec in Shadowhunters. Huge bummer... While in Shadowhunters it works great with the book character as it brings him a more complete personality - except for the occasional out of character lines - it worked even better here as Gabriel. The two characters are so blurred, now I will see Gabriel every time I watch Alec. That being said, great chemistry between Gabriel and Naomi, Naomi and Ely but nothing between Ely and Bruce 2.
Overall, it's an OK movie that 16 years old girls should enjoy. I would recommend it to them.

Vapid narcissists Ely and Naomi maintain a toxic friendship where they are co-dependant and yet not honest to each other. An affair between their parents (which ended in a divorce and a barely-together-marriage) has not broken their bonds, even though they harbour unspoken resentment toward each other -- made worse by their ill-advised pact to never date boys they both find attractive.
Perhaps we'd feel concern for them if they weren't both so self-absorbed and actually wanted the best for each other. Nope, Naomi would rather Ely conform to her fantasy relationship with him where he is not gay and he gives her the love she lacks from her father -- and Ely would rather not call out Naomi on her disregard for her other friends and current boyfriends, or even call her out on being a bad college student for that matter.
What happens doesn't even matter -- like most kids they'll realise that they created most of these problems themselves, and that other people actually have REAL PROBLEMS and maybe they should actually get a hobby or something.
If this in any way resembles your life, SEE A THERAPIST ASAP. The characters in this movie are not real, and if they were, everyone would hate them, because they are horrible. Gain some perspective and watch the news or read a book. Just don't be Naomi or Ely. They suck.
