Needs a sequel

There better be a sequel because this movie should've ended with doc and wynonna building their house and getting alice.

Unless this gets FIXED I will need a lobotomy to delete this movie from my brain so I can keep the season 4 ending thank you.

But honestly, it was great to see the gang back and it had some really funny moments and all around heart. I love wynonna earp with all my heart and was so excited to go back to Purgatory but I can't help but feel a little betrayed by the ending of this movie. I'm praying this is not the last we will see of them because it would be quite the disservice to the fans. I want to believe.

You had me at Hell-oh...

I did enjoy the "Wynonna Earp" series, but I was unaware that they also spewed out movies. And thus, as I happened to stumble upon the 2024 movie "Wynonna Earp: Vengeance" by random chance here in 2024, I was taken aback by surprise, but needed no persuasion to sit down and watch the movie.

Writer Emily Andras put together a fair enough script, but I have to say that the script somehow failed to fully sink its hook in me and reel me in. Sure, the movie was watchable, but I was sitting with an overshadowing sense of 'pick up the pace and throw in something exciting' throughout the course of the 96 minutes that the movie ran for.

It definitely was nice to see Melanie Scrofano and Tim Rozon reprising their roles of Wynonna Earp and John Henry 'Doc' Holliday respectively. And they do carry the movie quite nicely. And I have to say that it was a treat to have the witty banter between Wynonna and Doc on the screen again. There is a great chemistry between Melanie Scrofano and Tim Rozon.

Sure, "Wynonna Earp: Vengeance" was watchable and enjoyable, especially if you enjoyed the series. But there was just something crucial missing from this 2024 movie.

My rating of director Paolo Barzman's 2024 movie lands on a five out of ten stars.

at least the gang is back

Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano) and Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon) are together taking down demons on the road. They have to go back to Purgatory when an old frenemy returns from hell. They are reunited with Waverly Earp (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), Nicole Haught (Katherine Barrell), and Sheriff Randy Nedley (Greg Lawson).

It's four seasons and a movie. It's nice to see that almost everybody is back. Dominique got a new hairdo. The story is simple. They may be trying to extend the franchise with some spinoff ideas. I doubt that any of them would work. I really wish that they got someone with cinematic skills to direct this. It's most noticeable during the big gunfight at the grain silo. The dialogue is as snarky as ever. That's nice. This is strictly for the fans.

Why was this made?

I love Wynonna Earp and the surrounding characters. I watched the finale and loved it. This feature had no pizazz or comedy. The humor was non existent. The plot was terrible. Everything fell flat on its face. It's like the people that wrote this had never seen an episode of Wynonna Earp. I am going to consider this as if had never happened. I have the entire show on dvd so that's all I'll ever need.

They could have come up with a hundred different scenarios that would have been more entertaining than this. Hell, I would have liked seeing Bobo again back for revenge.

It was nice seeing the characters back together that's for sure but come up something more substantial. I was just plain disappointed.

A welcome revisit is marred by treatment that tries too hard and loses the forest in the trees

I'm a big fan of the TV series that aired from 2016 to 2021. The cast is a blast and has great chemistry, the story ideas are fun, and the mix of dark fantasy, horror, western, and comedy is ripe for possibilities. Of course I was sad that 'Wynonna Earp' only lasted for four seasons, but even as the fourth changed things up a bit, it ended strong and there are no especial weak spots. Fast forward three years, however, and as Tubi has commissioned a standalone feature, fans must wrestle with the evergreen question of how well any follow-up might succeed when it's been some time since the last endeavor in a franchise. Such productions have a very checkered history. Yet with director Paolo Barzman returning with his experience from the series, and chief producer Emily Andras writing, the possibilities seem very strong. And as core cast members Melanie Scrofano, Dominique-Provost Chalkley, Katherine Barrell, and Tim Rozon all happily reprise their roles, among many others populating the town of Purgatory, one dares to get their hopes up. How does 'Vengeance' measure up?

The good news is that with all such names and faces returning, even three years after the last episode aired no one has missed a beat. Everything we loved about the show is here in spades: the wry, quick-witted humor; the moody and dynamic score, and the catchy soundtrack infused with rock; the grim violence, blended with tones both lighter and more heartfelt; character writing that recalls who and where these figures were when we last saw them, and their personalities, strengths, and weaknesses; the high energy and very welcome queer representation. Sometimes the writing seems extra full of itself with all the quips that get flung in all direction (and more so with some passing meta humor), but in this case it's actually a good thing as it reinforces that this flick is absolutely kith and kin with the prior material. The narrative and scene writing is filled with some clever details and structure, and for all intents and purposes we could consider this a lost two-part episode that was rewritten a little to include a time skip. Very simply, if you liked what came before, you'll like this.

That's not to say that the 2024 picture is perfect. The troubles are familiar, too, as the show also tended to be overfull at times, and in some instances visibly pulled punches such that the stunts and fights weren't as visceral as would be most effective. The bad news is that in a singular runtime of ninety-six minutes, these issues are condensed into a more concentrated form, and are therefore amplified. We get everything we know and expect from 'Wynonna Earp,' but the problem is that we shouldn't genuinely get ALL of it all at once. There are the intermittent domestic troubles in our characters' romantic lives, and also the scrappy, lock-and-key dynamics that make them equally capable whether they're fighting together or each other. There are the small supporting characters seen in passing, and plentiful sentimental moments to match the violence on hand. There are are tidbits that are extra flashy, and embellished with intent to impress, but emptily so (oh jeez, just wait for shots and scenes we get in the third act); on the other hand, some facets are distinctly Lesser, and if we're being completely honest, the third act gets sloppy not just with its pacing, but in how we move to the climax and resolve the plot. The movie tries to do too much, and in the process it becomes careless, to the point that the the impact we should be feeling in many beats and ideas just isn't there - including, sadly, the denouement and ending.

Andras' writing, drawing directly from the best of 'Earp,' also becomes the film's undoing as this spiritual successor tries too hard to give fans the return we've craved. That doesn't mean 'Vengeance' is bad - far from it - but its faults are as evident as its value. Still, broadly speaking we get what we want. And this is duly well made, with capable direction, fine acting, terrific filming locations, (mostly) swell stunts and effects, and even good computer-generated imagery, to the extent that digital wizardry is employed. I do, in fact, like this title. I'm just of the mind that it shouldn't have worked so hard to weave in every last iota of the series, and whether or not some minutiae were omitted, it may have also benefited from being longer just so that select scenes and sequences could have been drawn out so that we could feel their weight. Fans of the show will enjoy themselves, but may not be totally satisfied just as I am not; folks who have never seen the show may well also enjoy this, but won't get as much out of it and may be still less satisfied. It's a mixed bag, and in the plainest of terms I don't think it's as good as the series. Yet above all for those who have been missing 'Wynonna Earp' from their lives, 'Vengeance' is worth checking out for something light on a quiet night, and maybe that's all it needed to be.

Please, no

I loved the show, but this is not a good movie.

The pacing is all over the place, mostly rushing from one plot point to another without hitting any of the emotional notes in between.

The plot itself is.. meh. It has some promise, but feels underdeveloped and - again - rushed.

The plot holes are numerous, the dialog is poor (the usually sassy, snazzy quipping is now mostly one-note crude), and even the acting is pretty bad. Which is weird as we know the actors are more than capable.

The special effects range from ok to awful, and I can't even grasp what they were going for with the "hellhounds". Community Theatre vibes maybe?

But most of all, the characters feel off and although emotional stakes are mentioned they don't actually _feel_ emotional.

Earpverse Still Has So Much to Give

Wynonna Earp: Vengeance delivered everything I missed about the show and then some. The heart, the humor, the action, the emotion-it was all there and true to the spirit of the series. Every character felt like coming home, and the cast's chemistry hasn't missed a beat.

Melanie Scrofano shines as always, bringing both grit and vulnerability to Wynonna. The stunts (CSA-winning, and rightfully so!) were next-level. The writing was sharp, emotional, and funny-exactly what makes this show special. And the love? Still the beating heart of it all.

Vengeance reminds us why this story, and this fandom, matter so much. Here's hoping it's not the last ride. Looking at you, Tubi!

It was ok

I think Wynonna Earp is something that doesn't condense easily into a movie, it's very character driven and can feel a bit off changing up the format of telling a story in 12-13 hours vs 1.5.

It was lovely to see them all again, but I found it difficult to get past some plot holes, like Mercedes was a vampire when we left her in the series and her part in this movie seemed to forget that with no explanation. Also Rachel Valdez was missing for the entire movie and I can't recall a reason for her absence, but I could have missed it. Jeremy made only a cameo appearance which was disappointing as I always enjoyed him on the team.

Overall, I think it had pacing and story development issues that I chalk up to the limitations of films vs television. It made some choices I wasn't happy with, but I always love to spend time with Wynonna, Waverly, Nicole, and Doc. And I hope we get more movies that clean up some of the mess this one made.

Absolutely Horrible

My husband and I went into this movie with high hopes as we enjoyed the TV series immensely. This was almost too painful to watch. The dialogue and acting skills were nowhere near to on par with the series. It was like the actors were phoning it in but they did the best they could with the terrible dialogue they got. I don't know why Tubi had to go and ruin an amazing series with this gosh awful movie. Next time, just leave it alone. I cannot stress enough that you should not waste your time with this movie. I love the actors and I will probably need to rewatch the series to get the bad taste out of my mouth.

A winner

This movie is a continuation of this world and was also a gift to the most supportive fandom ,but is great as a stand alone . I would highly recommend going back and watching all four seasons where you will fall in love with these characters & really understand this crazy world of Earp . This franchise has created a world where everyone is welcome which is also a theme in the show . A world where the heroes and heroines may not look like your traditional type but will steal your heart while you cheer them on . This movie just won 7 Canadian screen awards including best writing , best actress and Best Movie !

Bad plot

The plot was bland. The dialogue was horrible. Every other line was a bad sex joke. The 10 star reviews all sound like bot reviews trying to boost the score. Trust the 4 star review. If this was an episode of the show, I would say it was middle to poor. And there were entire seasons of the show I thought were trite and boring. They got even the origin of Wynonna wrong. That's in the first episode of the first season. Could they not even bother to go back and re-watch that? It's been a while since I watched the series, but it ended better than this movie did. They should have let dead dogs lie. This was a poor addition. Did none of the original writers come back? They got the actors to come back. Some, in my opinion, looking a little worse for wear.

What?

What is with all these 9 and 10 ratings?? This has the worst acting I have seen in a movie for a long long time. If a show or movie is on Tubi you should never expect too much, but this was just deplorably bad.

I wasted too much of my life with this movie, I am not wasting even more meeting a minimum character limit What is with all these 9 and 10 ratings?? Worst movie I have seen in 10 years

I think the series was good but was a complete disaster.

I am trying to understand why there was a need for this movie at all.

It lacked continuity of scenes. I could tell these were good actors but the story line just fell flat. It's like there was no effort made to make this realistic at all.

What's the point of shooting a gun in hell like seriously. There are so many scenes that didn't add up or make any sense whatsoever..

It's like everything was done with the least effort. I mean if you want to move to another scene at least complete once so that the audience satisfied by it.

Frankly speaking i m upset that I even wasted my time watching it.

LOVED IT!

Absolutely loved this movie! It had humor, action, heartfelt moments and it brought back the people that we know and love and got to watch over the course of 4 seasons. I'm so glad that Tubi took a chance on Emily Andras, the amazing Wynonna Earp cast, and their wonderful crew. It felt like the characters we had watched grow over seasons had even more layers to them than we thought. The villain was not only a surprise for what's further revealed in the movie but felt like a genuine threat which only made it better. I only hope to see even more Wynonna Earp on their network in the future. It would make me a very happy human.

A fifth grade drama class can do way better.

If you can think of the worst film you've ever seen, this one is much more worse that that. Literally, a fifth grade drama class can do better. This mess was a laugh out loud amateur hour nonsense. All casting and performances where horrible and lacked proper cast direction.

The bogus high reviews were more entertaining. It speaks volumes when the filmmakers don't even have faith in their own production to resort to such blatant tactics trying to trick viewers into watching this nonsense.

I'm giving this a very generous 1/10 (as I can't go lower), all going towards the shill high reviews, as they were way more entertaining than this mess of a film.

Multi award winning film. A gift for fans.

Good fun to watch.

Melanie Scrofano's acting as Wynonna is sublime and the best part of the movie. The chemistry between Wynonna and Doc Holliday is off the charts and is central to the movie. Tim Rozon shines as in my view the best version of Doc Holliday to hit the screens. There is a shocking plot twist related to Doc which pulls at your heart strings and was befitting of the growth of Doc's character. There's quality earp sister content which is the heart of the show. Wynonna battles against the demon of the day with her demon killing gun peacemaker in true wynonna fashion. Its action packed and fast paced. The actress playing the villain had me feeling very afraid for Wynonna. The hell scene is my favourite. Tubi, the streaming service, I believe, according to the writer/show runner wanted a film that didnt lean back much into the previous lore so that new viewers would be attracted. As a result it wasnt quite a continuation of the series and has a more season 1 introductory feeling. I watched the film with my non Earper brother and he enjoyed it too. The film is a 10/10 for me and I could easily watch it again and a again. It was everything an Earper would want. I hope this film opens the doors to a season 5 or sequel. Winner of the Best TV Movie at the Canadian Screen Awards 2025 perhaps is all the review that is needed!

WE-V your better off skipping

"Wynonna Earp: Vengeance," the TV movie continuation of the beloved Syfy series, has left fans disappointed. The acting falls short of the series' usual high standard, feeling phoned-in and lacking emotional depth. The script is weak, with clunky dialogue and forced attempts at humor. The plot feels rushed and uninspired, failing to capture the show's captivating storytelling.

While die-hard fans might find some enjoyment in seeing the characters back on screen, "Vengeance" is a pale imitation of what came before. It's best to skip this movie and remember the series for its earlier strengths.

It's a bad movie

It's a bad movie, that's all I can say. As a fan of a TV show, I was very excited about this project until I watched it.

Acting, why acting was so wooden? If it wasn't for Mel and Tim plus a few cameos by Earpers favourites, I wouldn't last more than 30 minutes. Then why did movie feel so cheap? Wynonna never had a massive budget but could pull things off, this movie however felt so cheap, just cheaply, poorly executed. But the worse of it all was the storyline. It was just terrible - especially development of certain characters...

They should have never made this movie. Such a shame because I really loved the show. Total disappointment.

I need more Earp!

What can i say. I genuinely loved it! This movie feels like a warm blanket on a cold day. Everything earp was in it. Amazing actors, beautiful frames, humor, action, love, good jokes and dialogue that leaves you either laughing or crying so hard. I'm so grateful to everyone who made this happen. Emily Andras - aka the best of us -, the cast, the crew and everyone else behind the scenes. And ofcourse our new and amazing network who decided to give Wynonna Earp a home again. Love you Tubi for having us. Also: i need more!!! There is so much left to explore. What is better than 90 minutes of Wynonna Earp? More than 90 minutes of Wynonna Earp! Please Tubi?

What was that?

I absolutely adore the TV Series. I have watched it numerous times through. But this... ruined it all.

In my mind (and for my sanity), this movie is not cannon. It felt like a badly written fanfiction. There was no pacing. The jokes were rough. Nowhere near the level of the TV Series. The ending makes no sense. The storyline was rushed and choppy. Two years had passed and they still had not met their daughter? The whole entire ending of the TV Series was to make it so that they could leave Purgatory and meet Alice.

Only nice thing about this entire situation was getting to see the original cast. Seriously. That was it.

They did fall flat on keeping Waverly true to character. The actress looks ill and sickly. Waverly is quirky, feminine, and badass when necessary. I get that the actress is not her character but when you are hired to play a character, you have to put away your personal beliefs and play the role. The whole time I was watching, I kept thinking "Why is there a small boy in this scene?". And it would be her.

Just... what a disappointment.
