Bohurupi comes out as a quintessential masala entertainer, masterfully blending emotions, romance, drama, and action in perfect harmony. At its core lies a deeply rooted story set in Bengal, rich with cultural nuances that enhance the narrative. The film follows Bikram, a character wronged by both the system and his family, as he embarks on a series of audacious bank heists, strategically targeting localities under the watchful eye of IC Sumanta Ghoshal. This premise sets the stage for an exhilarating cat-and-mouse chase that unfolds with captivating tension. The acting is commendable across the board, with each performer, including those in smaller roles, contributing significantly to the film's success. Shiboprosad Mukherjee shines, but the ensemble cast elevates the storytelling, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere. The film's production values and attention to detail reflect the care and dedication invested in its making. Bohurupi is a refreshing addition to Bengali cinema, offering audiences a well-crafted, entertaining experience that celebrates local culture while delivering thrilling escapism.
Bohurupi is a vibrant and engaging film! The blend of comedy, action, and drama seems to have created an entertaining experience. Shiboprosad Mukherjee's performance clearly stands out, and the attention to cinematography, especially the portrayal of rural Bengal, adds a beautiful visual layer. It's refreshing to see a film that prioritizes entertainment without heavy-handed social commentary, allowing audiences to enjoy the ride. The use of music and intimate scenes, like Pori's journey through her troubled mind, adds depth and emotion to the story. Overall, it is a very well-crafted film that balances various elements seamlessly!
Just watched it for the second time. I have to increase it to nine stars this time.
Shiboprosad ATE. He effing ATE. There ain't many actors in India right now who could have nailed Bikram Pramanik's role like Shiboprosad did. The facial expressions, the voice modulation, the eyes... he excelled in everything!
One curious thing about current Bangla film industry is that amongst the three male actors, whom I consider to be the best of the best and not worse than any internationally acclaimed artist, two of them are actually directors, and do acting in films only as a hobby (Koushik Ganguly and Shiboprosad). The third, and, only exception here is Anirban Bhattacharya, although he has also helmed two phenomenal projects as a director.
Anyways, back to Bohurupi, anyone from WB reading this, go watch Bohurupi if you haven't already. It's not a flawless film. But you'll have a good time that I can guarantee.
PS: Apart from Shiboprosad, the music department also ate btw.
Dakatiya Banshi is an actual proper and FUN item number in a Bangla film in last many years. Shibu-Nandita films usually have a item-number-ish song in it, but none of them are as fun as Dakatiya Banshi. They've touched a new height with this.
The last song in the film - Behula Sundori, which, as on 14th of October, hasn't released yet, is also a banger. Juxtaposition of this song and the climax legit gave me tears. The editing and building up was superb!!

"Bohurupi" is an intriguing Bengali film that masterfully intertwines drama and suspense, focusing on the thrilling cat-and-mouse game between a cop and a bank robber. The story revolves around the robber's use of multiple disguises, including that of shape-shifters or Bohurupis, showcasing his complex motivations and the societal pressures that lead him to crime. Abir Chatterjee and Shiboprosad Mukherjee deliver compelling performances, supported by the strong portrayals of Ritabhari Chakraborty and Koushani Mukherjee, who add emotional depth to the narrative. The film's cinematography vividly captures the nuances of Bengali culture, while the sharp screenplay and engaging dialogues keep viewers invested. "Bohurupi" is a thought-provoking exploration of identity and morality, leaving a lasting impact.
Bohurupi emerges as a standout masala entertainer, skillfully weaving together a tapestry of emotions, romance, drama, and action in just the right balance. The performances are stellar, with each actor bringing depth to their roles, including those in supporting positions, who enhance the overall narrative. Shiboprosad Mukherjee shines brightly, but the ensemble cast collectively elevates the film's impact. With its meticulous attention to detail and high production values, Bohurupi is a testament to the rich storytelling tradition of Bengali cinema. It successfully delivers an engaging and entertaining experience, celebrating local culture while keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.
