Despite the controversies that arose during the production and marketing phase leading up to this film’s debut, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is still taking home one singular win, and it might be the only thing that counts to land them that second movie. Back when it was a webnovel, Realies Pictures offered the series an adaptation for five live-action films.
Originally written as a light novel before being adapted into a manhwa, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint remains a very popular series among fans and webtoon lovers today. Sunday Update: Marvel/Disney’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps has come in with an estimated $218M global opening. While this is lower than where we saw it yesterday, it remains above the pre-weekend projection, both worldwide and in terms of international box office. The latter landed at $100M, the top end of our pre-opening projection.
The overseas debut is 13% ahead of Thunderbolts*, 11% ahead of Superman and 4% above Captain America: Brave New World in like-for-like markets at current rates. The Fantastic Four folks also scored the biggest superhero opening of 2025 in Mexico, the UK, France, Italy, Spain and the European and Latin American regions, as well as several smaller markets.
The offshore take of $100M is about 46% of the global total. Normally, in this genre, we see overseas numbers much higher than domestic, but that’s not been the case recently (see Superman‘s bow at 43% from overseas). Is it a sign of the times,...

The moment a live-action adaptation of any beloved series is mentioned, sirens start blaring in the fandom. This is exactly what happened when the live-action Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint was first announced. The trailer looked decent, but featured some huge disparities from the original story. This was a warning sign, and fans were prepared for disappointment.
The live-action has finally been released, and it’s garnering negative reviews on websites like IMDb. Interestingly, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint fans have been celebrating this negative reception, and it’s completely understandable. The negative reception is important for the makers to understand how beloved Orv is, and that it shouldn’t be tampered with heavily.

Over the last few years anime industry has been growing at an exceptional rate, and now that it has become a part of the mainstream media, it is getting the respect it deserves. While the majority of the credit goes to the stories that are adapted from popular manga projects, the manhwa adaptations have also contributed greatly to the success of the art form.
In fact, with the new and upcoming projects, it feels like manhwa anime adaptations might become the new trend. The main reason behind this is the growing influence of Webtoon, the digital comics app that originated in South Korea and is slowly taking over the entire world. The platform has revolutionized how the world reads comics, and it is only going to get better from here on.
This was confirmed by the chief strategy officer and head of global at Webtoon Entertainment, Yongsoo Kim, through Variety.

Cinemas in South Korea are set to record their lowest attendance figures in more than two decades after a lacklustre first half of the year.
A total of 40.73 million people had attended theatres in the country through June 22, according to data released by the Korean Film Council, with projections of around 42 million by the end of the month. This is 33% down on the 62.93 million recorded for the first half of 2024 and would mark the lowest H1 performance since 2004, when 21.82 million tickets were sold.

In recent years, webtoons have seen increasing success when being translated into anime or live-action. The most recent smash hit, Solo Leveling, has reached unprecedented heights through its first two seasons, becoming the most-watched series on Crunchyroll and winning Anime of the Year at the streamer's annual Anime Awards. Now, Webtoon Entertainment’s Line Digital Frontier, which handles Japan-based Line Manga and ebookjapan services, is developing one of its blockbuster webcomics into what the company hopes will be its next big hit — Teenage Mercenary. Created by Yc and Rakyeon, the globally popular series is getting an anime adaptation, joining a slate of 20 new titles the company has plans to expand to the medium in the near future.
Teenage Mercenary centers on Ijin Yu, a child survivor of a deadly plane crash who is forced into the life of a mercenary to survive after his parents' deaths. Ten years later, as a teenager,...

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is an adventure fantasy series that departs from the usual anime. Instead of showcasing the magic and swords world or focusing exclusively on combat, Frieren explores themes of incredible depth. The small moments in life and the various moments of nostalgia take precedence over overbearing combat prowess.
Frieren is a series that delves into the mysteries of the world, including mortality and unrequited love. Compared to anime like Solo Leveling, it can be said that they are on opposite extremes when it comes to narration and character development.
Frieren showcases the beauty of storytelling through a fantastical tale
Frieren is the tale of an elf mage of the same name. Elves are long-lived creatures; compared to human lifespans, they can live for a much longer time. This disparity in life level might not seem like much, but when it comes to cultivating relationships, the difference starts to show.

Redice Studio has been dropping some absolute bangers, turning their amazing webtoons into anime masterpieces like Solo Leveling. The anime adaptation from A-1 Pictures had Sung Jin-woo leveling up like crazy, with some of the best action and art.
It even got 116k likes on Crunchyroll, and there is a huge fan base singing the praises of those stellar visuals and storytelling! And not just Solo Leveling, Redice Studio has got another webtoon masterpiece under its belt, i.e., Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (Orv), known for its unique blend of compelling storytelling, meta-narrative elements, and relatable themes.
Aniplex and Crunchyroll have taken up the adaptation duties for an Orv anime, which we might get to see this year. Crazy, right? But wait, Redice has got more gems in their catalogue that need the anime treatment too.
1. Nano Machine
Nano Machine follows Cheon Yeo-Woo, a martial arts underdog who randomly gets a sci-fi nano machine upgrade.

When comparing Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint (Orv) and Solo Leveling, the contrast is clear. Although both works are predominantly Korean, there is a world of difference in how they approach the narrative.

Solo Leveling is extremely popular and has managed to become the hegemon on major streaming sites like Crunchyroll, challenging all-time bests like Attack on Titan and One Piece. But no one can deny that the series thrives on over-the-top action, an overpowered protagonist, and a compelling power-leveling narrative.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is different from Solo Leveling in this regard. It not only fleshes out the side characters (probably more than the main character), but it has a protagonist that is not just interesting but also relatable. Because at some point in our lives, we have all been Kim Dokja.
A protagonist you relate to, not admire from afar
Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling is cool.

Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is a unique series that stands out not just because of its unique setting or its layered storytelling, the series revolutionizes the concept of supporting characters.

Usually, it is the protagonist who is at the forefront, always pulling the side characters to his level, supporting, saving, and helping them. It feels like the side characters only exist to make the protagonist shine further. But this familiar trope has been subverted by Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.
There is a sense of collective growth in the series, and it turns out that the entire Kim Dokja company has been working hard and making almost impossible efforts to save him from his fate.

The Beginning After the End is on the animated adaptation bandwagon and has everyone excited. Fans have already claimed Solo Leveling’s second season as one of the best anime of 2025 and we’re only 3 months in. A-1 Pictures, the studio behind Solo Leveling, has done a fantastic job.
Other manhwa-to-anime adaptations, however, haven’t been receiving the same amount of love and effort from their studios. Recently, Studio A-Cat released their preview of The Beginning After The End’s anime adaptation, and fans are not impressed.

The Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint live-action adaptation has already sparked controversy with the many changes it made using creative liberties. One of the biggest concerns is its treatment of Lee Jihye.
Dokja fighting in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint | Credit: Webtoon
Lee Jihye is an important character who grows along with Dokja in the series. Her sense of justice, courage, and pride are all embodied in her combat style. Using a sword to defend herself, even when she seemed like a weak and naive child, Jihye grew to be one of the strongest survivors and a proud member of Kim Dokja’s Company.
The live adaptation decided to just replace her sword with a gun without any proper basis. This isn’t just an aesthetic change as it fundamentally alters her character, fighting style, and relationships.

Manhwas are taking the internet by storm and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is no exception to that. The popular webtoon stands top-tier in many ways, especially through its well-paced plot, characters, and impressive world-building.
Other than that, it offers novelty in terms of its perspectives. While most manhwas are centered around cliche tropes of power, Sing Shong makes the most of these tropes by twisting it completely. There is, however, a standalone aspect that makes it superior to most new-age series.

Where most series abandon their key elements, the series makes the most of it. Apart from using common tropes, Sing Shong renders it unique by interplaying this key element within the plot. The author’s approach is what makes the series superior to other series.
In retrospect, Sakamoto Days failed miserably to do justice to its core elements.

It is the age of anime adaptations and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint is no exception to that. With most manhwas getting their animated releases, 2025 would be a fruitful year for the readers.
To animate a manhwa is a task in itself, as it is a bumpy road considering pacing, animation, and all that jazz. And while Sing Shong’s series is promising, there are several caveats to that as well.

With the manhwa getting its anime, fans couldn’t help but feel thrilled. And while their excitement and anticipation are valid, there are downsides to it. Their initial zing might backfire in most cases, especially with the upcoming series.
Interestingly, it contrasts with One Piece and its soaring popularity. While both are top-notch narratives in the shonen genre, Oda’s series has an upper hand because of its key ingredient to success.

Solo Leveling introduced many new fans to the world of manhwa, as it makes the perfect getaway series given its popularity and simplicity. The manhwa is massively popular, and the anime is doing justice to every aspect of the manga with the glorious animation. Studio A-1 Pictures has done a great job, and with the second season currently airing, the overall quality of the anime seems to be getting better.

However, Solo Leveling anime might be setting the bar too high for the upcoming anime adaptations of the popular manhwa series. The Tower of God anime serves as a cautionary tale, and fans should be prepared for the worst as more and more manhwa series gear up for their anime debut.

So, the upcoming anime might be the key to simplifying the storyline for more viewers. The anime may fix the webtoon’s biggest problem: its tortuous pacing. Condensing the content and rearranging the plot will introduce this captivating series to an even larger following.
