It was truly hard for me to watch the movie realizing that it represents the existing culture so realistically. The culture where it is done to show verbal abuse, where sexual assault is always there under rug swept, where young people have to marry against their will, where a woman hardly has any reading or writing skills and can only write her name but has the amazing skill of being able to put up with the unexpected bouts of anger of any man in the family, where people measure each other by what they look like and not what they are. The list is endless. The movie has a plot, and it's quite interesting and even intriguing, however, I was shocked by the fact that people keep choosing these horrendous and outdated values and lifestyles when they absolutely don't have to. When will it end?

In the remote Israeli Bedouin city of Rahat, a young construction worker wants to be a playwright. How could he conceive such a notion? Because he has an internet connection and it's introduced him to the wide world beyond the desert. Why not? It's a better premise than you see in all those historical dramas about beautiful women 500 years ago who conceive 21st century notions about the social order.

As the construction worker, Shadi Mar'i plays-- not for the first time and not for the second-- someone tired of being treated as a callow loser. This movie earned him his third nomination for the Israeli film industry's Best Actor award, and it proved to be a win for him.

The story plays out against some fine photography and an admirable musical score, and it comes to a well-written ending.
