All 12 episodes of the second season of Grand Blue anime were leaked online on BitTorrent sites just one day after the anime’s official premiere on July 7.

The leaked episodes are reportedly only available in 480p resolution and do not contain any visible watermarks or timestamps. The leak also included the season’s final episode, which confirmed production of a third season.

The origin of the leak has not yet been identified.

This is more than double the number from 2021. Netflix made a major splash at Anime Expo over the weekend, dropping new trailers, clips and images from its anime lineup including “Sakamoto Days,” “My Melody & Kuromi,” and “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.”

The streaming giant’s anime push comes as the genre reaches unprecedented heights on the platform, with over 50% of Netflix audiences — representing more than 150 million households or over 300 million people — now watching anime content, according to Netflix. The company says it’s focused on delivering diverse stories and genres to serve everyone “from a curious newcomer to a life-long anime superfan.”

Netflix’s dominance in the anime space was recently confirmed by a new Dentsu study unveiled by Variety that found 48% of global anime viewers subscribe to Netflix for such programming, significantly ahead of Disney+ at 32% and Prime Video at 29%. The study surveyed 8,600 consumers across 10 countries and found that 31% of global consumers watch anime at least once a week.

Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, a famed animator and character designer for the Dragon Ball franchise, expressed his thoughts about an inevitable remake of the Akira Toriyama series. He was interviewed by the Db Times during the Made in Asia Spring 2025 event, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, from March 7 to 9, 2025.

Social media user @/Venixys translated the Db Times’ interview with Nakatsuru on X (formerly Twitter). Nakatsuru was asked if he would participate in a Dragon Ball remake if one were to be made. Via Polygon, Netflix has secured a subpoena against Discord through California's Northern District Court for one of its users, allegedly involved with one of the worst leaks in anime history this summer. The Discord user @jacejohns4n claimed responsibility for the leaks, which included Mononoke the Movie: Phantom in the Rain, Ranma 1/2, Terminator Zero, DandadanDan, Kengan Ashura, Arcane and Heartstopper. Despite the low-quality footage, they circulated on multiple pirate sites months before their release. In a September interview with someone purporting to be Johnson on Telegram, he claimed he was currently planning his next big leak. Notably, Johnson appears to have an unreleased image from the upcoming Squid Game.
