I recently watched Mummy Shark with four of my friends, and we all found it surprisingly interesting. Going in, we weren't sure what to expect, but the movie turned out to be a fun mix of suspense, action, and just the right amount of humor.
The plot was engaging, following a unique take on the shark horror genre. Instead of the typical mindless predator, Mummy Shark brought in an ancient curse that made the story feel fresh. The special effects were decent, and the underwater scenes had a nice eerie atmosphere.
What really stood out was how the film balanced tension and entertainment. There were some genuinely thrilling moments, and a few unexpected twists kept us hooked. The characters were likable enough, and while some parts were a bit over the top, it only added to the fun.
Overall, Mummy Shark was an enjoyable watch, especially with friends. It had a creative premise, solid pacing, and plenty of moments that made us react out loud. If you're looking for something different in the shark movie genre, this one is worth checking out!

Jeff Kirkendall is doing his "distinguished" accent again which sounds vaguely like Elmer Fudd and Mark works as a burger flipper in an ancient Egyptian temple and then later a jungle that looks like the indoor plant section in an Ikea. Lots of life-draining stock footage otherwise and one part where it looks like someone playing Doom with a bandaged paper maché shark for a gun. Paid attention to this for 20 minutes until I started doing other stuff for 20 more minutes while I let it play, so I'm allowed to log it. Mark Polonia's films are to be expected if you know what kind of work he does....
I don't know why I still opted to watch the 2024 movie "Mummy Shark" after seeing that it was directed by Mark Polonia, as he usually makes movies that are so questionable that even a dead guy would go "really?" Perhaps it was on the way, way off-chance that Polonia had upped his game.
Right, well the movie was not off to a great start, as Mark Polonia would have us believe that the guy wielding the magical power was Egyptian or Middle-Eastern at least, but the trouble was that he was about as pasty all-American as you could get.
Writer Bret McCormick didn't exactly conjure up a script of Shakespearian quality here. Not that I was expecting that. But the storyline was so simplistic that it bordered on being non-existing.
Unfortunately I've seen enough low budget and Mark Polonia movies to be familiar with actor Jeff Kirkendall and actress Jamie Morgan. And they was also the only familiar faces on the screen. The majority of the acting performances in the movie were actually fair enough for a movie such as this.
The special effects in the movie were so bad that I tumbled over laughing. I had to go back frequently and watch some scenes two times, just to watch the insanely poor special effects once more. The effects looked like they were discarded CGI animations from an early 1990s computer games.
The upside to "Mummy Shark" was that it only ran for 66 minutes, so the self-inflicted torment was relatively short-lived. And I guess that director Mark Polonia delivers exactly what you would expect from him, so that counts for something, I suppose.
My rating of director Mark Polonia's 2024 movie "Mummy Shark" lands on a very. Very generous two out of ten stars.
