I thought I would watch a little bit of this series after I had finished dinner. I couldn't stop and was completely engaged and watched the series from start to finish.
The series gives you a lot of different perspectives of the battle of Normandy. Based on real interviews with veterans from both sides. The actors mimicking the lines from the real interviews do a great job and underline the grim message that comes across with such power.
This is a must if you enjoyed Saving Private Ryan or the Band of Brothers series.
The details in the stories being told are incredible, as the veterans use every sense to describe the horrors of war and the beauty of true comradery.

This was one of the most engaging, interesting, heart breaking documentaries I have ever watched. The actors are just superb, so much so at times I forgot they were lip-syncing and weren't actually speaking those words. The words are from recordings made of people who experienced the battle for Normandy. This series tells the story of D Day up to the liberation of Paris, from both the allied side, the German side and the French civilians. It's always more poignant when you think that these were just normal men, called up to do their duty to their country, having probably never thought about what war actually would be like, and then thrust into hell. The actors are so so good, the emotion they are able to convey from the words from those who were there.
This documentary shows how it affected everyone, and how the battle of Normandy was won.
I would recommend watching this more than any other documentary I've seen. It was absolutely magnificent.

...amoung the best. A fresh approach to the WWII documentary format. Old audio tapes are "dusted off" and "brushed up" by means of AI technology. The new enhanced audio quality is subsequently brought to life by means of actor's lip syncing the tapes.
This is good work, really good. There is an element of force placed on the production, one that comes up trumps. By "being stuck with" the audio recordings they have in their possession - they have to keep the general story along a thin line. This circumstance, alongside some excellent acting, provides some of the deepest character development seen in any WWII documentary. In turn we are rewarded with one of the holy grails of documentary filmmaking - the sense of being there.
This is one of the WWII documentary "must sees" - way more for its depth than its breadth.

Just Amazing,. Yes we all 'know' about D-Day.. or so we thought,. It's only now after watching this amazing series/doc etc whatever it was, well it was just the best History lesson I've ever got.
The acting, the archive footage,. The Bloody Actors. The dress sense, the look, haircuts etc.
The logistics before even leaving dry land, the crossing of the channel. I just wish there was drone footage as they approached Normandy. The Germans just had no idea no comprehension of what was coming. I can't even imagine that such an ' event' could ever be achieved again!?
Anyway brave brave souls each and every one of them. From both sides. Their voices will stay with me.

- GoofsIn the opening credits, an actor playing a British soldier is using a sniper rifle. The rifle is a World War One Canadian Ross rifle, which was only ever issued to the Home Guard in World War Two. Furthermore, it seems to have been fitted with a Russian PU telescopic sight. This would never have been used by British forces at any time.
