A new film adorns the top spot of the box-office weekend again as Disney’s Snow White debuted $38.6 million ahead of its closest competition.
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures saw its latest live-action adaptation of a beloved animated film, Snow White, debut atop the box-office weekend with a three-day total of $43.0 million. This was more than enough to best second-place Black Bag which managed only $4.4 million in its second weekend of release, despite climbing from third place and claiming second for Focus Features. Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures also enjoyed a jump from fourth to third place for Captain America: Brave New World which took in $4.1 million over the weekend, bringing its six-week total to $192.1 million for the studio. After finishing in second place last weekend, Mickey 17 dropped two spots to land in fourth this weekend where it added $3.9 million to lift its three-week total to $40.2 million for Warner Brothers.

Indie distributors such as Angel Studios have proven that, with targeted marketing, faith-based films have the potential to deliver major numbers at the domestic box office. Fellow faith-based distributor Pinnacle Peak Pictures, an outfit that has produced questionable content in the past, debuted the biblical film The Last Supper to excellent audience response last week. The movie secured the sixth spot on the domestic charts, trailing a trio of other newcomers such as Steven Soderbergh's espionage thriller Black Bag, the action comedy Novocaine, and the animated film The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.

Good thing “Novocaine” can’t feel pain, because this one hurts. Paramount’s “Novocaine” hit No. 1 at the domestic box office this weekend despite grossing just $8.7 million. That’s the lowest total for a movie to top the box office this year in a given weekend, and it led a dismally weak weekend on the whole at the domestic box office, in which the Top 10 earned just a cumulative $45.2 million, the worst of 2025 thus far.
It will come as a surprise to no one that the box office has been bleak since the pandemic, but you don’t even have to go back that far to find a weekend that had a worse No. 1. For that we look to February 9-11 2024 when the No. 1 movie in America was Universal’s “Argylle” in its second weekend in theaters, earning just $6.2 million. The biggest new release that weekend was Focus Features’ “Lisa Frankenstein,...

Mauro Borrelli’s The Last Supper, the latest attempt to turn the story of Jesus Christ’s life into a feature film, has made a strong start to life at the box office against tough March competition. In its first weekend, the movie earned over $2.8 million domestically, which may seem like a modest amount to many but, for a film of this size, is, in fact, worthy of notable praise. This total was accumulated via just 1,575 theaters nationwide, making for a per-theater average of $1,794, the fifth highest of the weekend.

This week saw a new film debut atop the box-office weekend as Novocaine debuted as the number one film of the weekend, pushing last week’s top film, Mickey 17 to second place by the slim margin of $1.19 million.
Paramount Pictures International saw its latest release, Novocaine, debut atop the box-office weekend top ten with a total of $8.7 million to show for its opening weekend. This proved to be just enough to nudge last weekend’s top film, Mickey 17 to second place as it made $7.51 million in its second weekend of release, giving the Warner Bros. product an overall total of $33.3 million. Meanwhile, Black Bag debuted in third place over the weekend, bringing in $7.5 million for Focus Features. These two aforementioned debuts helped push Captain America: Brave New World down two spots to a fourth-place finish this weekend, where it made $5.5 million over the last three days. Yes, this is the lowest grossing weekend of 2025 to date, but not for opera, as the specialty market found its maestro, Ludwig van Beethoven.
The Met: Live in HD transmission of Beethoven’s Fidelio grossed over $860k at about 800 cinemas on Saturday night, one screening.
Conducted by Susanna Mälkki, and starring soprano Lise Davidsen, tenor David Butt Philip, and soprano Ying Fang, the title had the second highest per-screen average of all filmed content across North America and ranked 11 at North American box office yesterday. Encore screenings will play select U.S. cinemas March 19 and Canadian cinemas on March 29, 31, and April 2.
Fathom is the North American distributor. The live transmission was directed for cinema by Gary Halvorson and hosted by tenor Ben Bliss.
The Met: Live in HD — live high-definition cinema simulcasts that do tend to pop — now in its 18th season, is available in more than 1,800 theaters in 60 countries.

Talk about a fitting plot for the movie that’s winning what appears to be the slowest moviegoing weekend of 2025 so far at the domestic box office, as well as one of the worst in the post-covid-19 era.
Paramount’s action-comedy Novocaine easily topped the domestic chart with an $8.7 million launch to ice out Mickey 17, which fell to No. 2 in its second frame. However, the studio had hoped to do closer $10 million. Novocaine stars Jack Quaid as a new kind of action hero who is not so great at dishing it out, but boy, can he take it — thanks to his genetics, which make him feel no harm.
Duking it out for No. 3 was Steven Soderbergh’s new movie Black Bag and Warner Bros.’ ill-fated Mickey 17 with around $7.5 million each (final rumbers will be released Monday). The latter tumbled more than 60 percent from its opening weekend to finish...

It was a good news/ bad news situation at the box office this weekend for Paramount Pictures. On the one hand, their heavily hyped action comedy, Novocaine, starring The Boys’ Jack Quaid, managed to finish in the top spot (as we predicted). The bad news is that it happened to lead the slowest weekend of the year, with the $8.7 million gross certainly nothing to write home about. That said, considering that the movie sports a thrifty $18 million budget, it didn’t need to have a massive opening, and if word of mouth is good, it could become something of a sleeper. However, the B CinemaScore rating isn’t wild for an action comedy, so it’s possible it won’t be able to have as strong of a hold as the studio is no doubt hoping for.
Indeed, the race for number one didn’t end up being all that close after all.

Paramount’s action-comedy “Novocaine” secured the top spot at the box office with an $8.7 million opening weekend, a modest success for the $18 million production. The broader box office landscape remained sluggish, with total weekend earnings expected to reach just $55 million, marking one of the weakest March performances since 1996.

Novocaine Takes The Lead With A Dismal No. 1 Gross
This article was originally written Saturday Am and has been updated Sunday Am with up-to-date box office projections (in bold), a full chart, and further analysis.
Novocaine has pulled ahead of Black Bag, and Mickey 17 after going head to head in a dismal weekend for the 2025 box office. Novocaine, which is an action comedy starring Jack Quaid, and Black Bag, which is a Steven Soderberg-directed spy thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, are both new wide releases. The Mickey 17 release kicked off the week before. The Bong Joon Ho-directed Robert Pattinson sci-fi movie debuted at No. 1 with a record-breaking $19 million haul that was the Parasite director's best in domestic history but still came nowhere close to its $118 million budget.

Jack Quaid’s action-comedy “Novocaine” topped a painfully slow weekend at the box office with $8.7 million. For theater owners, however, there’s not too much to celebrate: It’s one of the worst debuts to still capture the No. 1 spot (at least since the pandemic ground moviegoing to a halt).
Despite five new nationwide releases, this weekend was among the year’s lowest grossing to date with $52 million across all films, according to Comscore. Even the Super Bowl frame, known to leave multiplexes barren, was bigger with $54 million in February. The year’s sluggish first quarter has been another blow to the badly bruised movie theater business, which is banking on 2025 to revive the business after Covid and Hollywood’s labor strikes. If that’s the case, there’s no time like the present. Year-to-date revenues are 5% behind 2024 and nearly 38% behind 2019, according to Comscore.

Movie theaters haven’t exactly been bustling since the start of 2025 and the calendar year is about to turn in one of its most meager frames yet. Even with two new wide releases — Paramount’s slapstick beat-em-up “Novocaine” and Focus Features’ spy film “Black Bag” — exhibitors are in danger of a particularly beleaguered weekend, one that will likely see no feature grossing in the eight digits.
That hasn’t happened since February 2024, when Apple’s hopeful franchise starter “Argylle” crumbled in its second weekend. Whether or not any individual releases can get north of $10 million, the overall outlook remains dreary. The Feb. 7 Super Bowl weekend remains the lowest-grossing of 2025 in North America, when “Dog Man” led charts with $13 million and all releases totaled $55.8 million. This weekend seems likely to sink lower.
“Novocaine” has the edge for No. 1 for now, though “Black Bag” and last week’s “Mickey 17” aren’t far behind.

The Last Supper reinterprets the final days of Jesus Christ through a modern cinematic lens, presenting a dramatic recounting of events that have shaped religious thought for millennia. The film recounts pivotal Biblical moments, capturing a complex interplay among central figures during a time of profound historical significance.
Its narrative unfolds with a distinctive voice provided by Peter, whose perspective casts fresh light on events traditionally seen through a singular lens. The timeline spans from the shores near the Sea of Galilee—where miracles such as the miraculous multiplication of loaves and fish unfold—to the tumultuous atmosphere of Jerusalem, where the cleansing of the temple sets the stage for an inevitable upheaval.
This cinematic retelling places its foundation in Judea during the years 32–33 A.D., evoking the cultural and spiritual climate of the era with careful attention to period detail.

Seven people were due to stand trial in Paris on Wednesday on charges of making death threats and cyberbullying against director Thomas Jolly in the wake of his controversial Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony last July.
French media reported that six men, aged between 22 and 79 years old, and a woman aged 57 had been summoned to court on charges of “repeated death threats, cyberbullying and aggravated insults based on sexual orientation and real or supposed religious affiliation.”
A number of the insults were reported at the time to have been antisemitic in nature. Jolly is not Jewish.

After a dismal 1990s that greatly diminished his stature as one of the most bankable movie stars in Hollywood, Sylvester Stallone kicked off the 2000s with a pair of box office disappointments in "Get Carter" and "Driven." Though the latter reunited him with his "Cliffhanger" director Renny Harlin, moviegoers had very little interest in a film about Cart racing. With his two most valuable franchises, "Rocky" and "Rambo," mothballed due to lack of commercial interest, his once reliable international popularity on the wane, and a finished movie ("D-Tox") gathering dust on the shelf due to horrid test screening scores, Stallone had to humble himself and make a movie that didn't lose tens of millions of dollars for its investors. This meant working small and not demanding a bank-breaking payday.

Just in time for the Easter holidays, a brand-new season of The Chosen is gearing up for release in March 2025, but we've also learned some exciting news about its streaming plans. The Chosen season 5, also subtitled as The Last Supper, begins rolling out in theaters in late March with its three-part theatrical run ending in April. When can fans start watching?
Earlier this year, Amazon MGM Studios struck a deal with The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins and his production company 5&2 Studios to distribute the series in theaters for its final three seasons — seasons 5, 6, and 7 — and have an exclusive streaming window for each of those seasons on Prime Video. In addition, the past four seasons are also available on Prime Video.
Under this deal, The Chosen season 5 will begin its three-week theatrical run in March 2025. Following the third batch, all of the episodes will remain in theaters for fans to binge-watch if wanted.

However, it surprised fans when Station 19 premiered in 2018 as an official part of the Grey's Anatomy universe. The series focused on the lives of first responders, particularly firefighters, in a similar capacity as the surgeons of Grey Sloan Memorial. Among these unsung heroes was Dean Miller, an integral part of Station 19 and one of the few characters who left the show midway.
Several characters from both shows crossed paths in different crossover episodes where the responders and the doctors connected over their shared experiences and traumas. Dean Miller regularly popped up whenever Shonda Rhimes wanted to mix things up. The brave firefighter had an interesting and emotional arc that fitted well in both Grey's Anatomy and Station 19's narrative.

Last week’s episode of The Boys Season 4 was centered around a party at Tek Knight’s mansion where Homelander, Sister Sage, and Victoria Neuman were supposed to convince the bureaucrats and politicians to turn the United States of America into a Supe-controlled fascist country. Hughie impersonated Webweaver and was nearly gutted by Tek Knight. Mm, along with Kimiko and Annie, came to his rescue. Mm shot Sister Sage in the head and suffered a panic attack. He was saved by A-Train, who delivered Mm to the nearest hospital. He experienced his first “superhero” moment when a child saw A-Train helping someone. Sage’s brain recovered from the injury, but it decreased her intelligence for quite a while, thereby forcing Neuman to step up and convince the aforementioned bureaucrats and politicians. Firecracker took advantage of Sage’s misstep and became Homelander’s most trusted aide by spraying some breast milk on his face.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Boys are based on comic books, featuring a plot about ‘superheroes’. Yet, the two universes could not have been more different from each other. While one is made with a vision to provide ‘family entertainment’, the other is strictly 18+ with some scenes being so horrifying that even the strongest of hearts should avoid.
The Depp in The Boys | Amazon Prime Video
There is no lack of morally ‘improper’ or horrendous scenes in The Boys, with the Deep’s unusual love story standing out the most. Yet, one deleted scene from Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok is so ‘unusual’ that fans would thank the studio for censoring it as PG-13 and not including that one scene.

The following contains spoilers for The Boys Season 4, Episode 5, "Beware the Jabberwock, My Son," which debuted June 27 on Prime Video. It also contains a mention of sexual assault.
When it comes to the most controversial TV shows on streaming, The Boys ranks at the top of the list. Throughout Season 4, the gore, nudity and profanity are at an all-time high. It makes the show's satire of the world's politics a bit more caustic, but it does so to illustrate the classism, elitism and societal divides existing today. It started out as superhero satire, but as showrunner, Eric Kripke, has said, it's very much parallel to reality at present.

When it comes to characters being thrown around like rag dolls, The Boys takes the task to the next level. It is the extreme, satirical depiction of some of the most overlooked commentaries of the world, shown through superhero culture. In the center of it all stands Erin Moriarty’s Starlight. Throughout the series, she has gone from being a protagonistic character to someone who gets a bittersweet response from the audience.

It hasn’t skipped the fans’ attention how the treatment of her character is starkly similar to one of the most famous animes. While she may be able to hold her ground and stand up for herself, the constant disregard of her other characters is unfortunately the same experience fans found with Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto.

Former Gossip Girls star Chace Crawford has a great time playing one of the most absurd characters on television, no matter how weird it gets — and it gets pretty weird. In an interview conducted for our recent in-depth feature on The Boys, Crawford looks back at his time so far as poor-man’s-Aquaman the Deep, from his deranged duet with his own gills to his romantic, uh, entanglements with an octopus named Ambrosous (voiced, amazingly enough, by Tilda Swinton).

Spoiler Alert! This article has spoilers from The Boys Season 4
The film industry experienced a period of superhero fatigue when movies and TV shows of major franchises were failing to hit the mark. One of the very few shows to have successfully ridden out that wave of disappointment was Amazon Prime’s The Boys.
Erin Moriarty as Annie January/ Starlight in The Boys| Amazon Prime
However, despite its achievements, the superhero parody isn’t without its flaws. One of the major criticisms that has come out more recently is the treatment of Starlight, aka Annie January.
Starlight is losing her shine over the seasons of The Boys
Surely, the show is titled The Boys, but the girls of the show are not a slouch. In fact, they are the major powerhouses of Billy Butcher’s team. And Starlight is definitely counted among the muscle of the ragtag group of misfits.

The Boys is a wildly entertaining show that has amassed a huge fan base for itself by twisting the superhero genre and making the "heroes" the primary antagonists and villains in the show. While fans love the laugh-out loud comedy and intense action, what keeps them coming back for more are the well-drawn and relatable characters.
From The Deep to Hughie, no character in this show is perfect, but some are certainly more likable than others. One of the most fun things about this show is how well-written the villains and the heroes are. Some characters are so despicable that fans can't help but find themselves anticipating what gruesome act they'll do next. Let's take a look at some of the best characters that fans despise and some that fans can't get enough of.

“The Boys” is one of the most popular superhero series globally and is currently in its fourth season, maintaining strong momentum and widespread discussion. Despite its critical acclaim since debuting, the series has faced significant fan backlash, unsurprising given its controversial nature. This backlash has targeted both the series and its cast, including instances of harassment from toxic “fans” and haters.
A prominent example is the situation with Erin Moriarty, who portrays Starlight, as one of the show’s main characters. In 2023 and earlier this year, Moriarty faced online harassment, primarily due to her appearance and rumors of plastic surgery. Fans attacked and insulted her based on these changes. Although it was a challenging time for Moriarty, she appears to have since recovered.
When the controversy first began, Moriarty addressed the backlash and abuse in a now-deleted Instagram post from January 2024. She wrote:
“This is something I truly never anticipated writing.

The fourth season of Amazon Prime’s hit superhero satire “The Boys” has taken a darker turn, delving deep into the morally ambiguous pasts of its supposed heroes. This shift in focus provides viewers with a harsh reality check, emphasizing that in the show’s gritty universe, no one is purely good or evil.
Created by Eric Kripke, “The Boys” has always pushed the boundaries of traditional superhero narratives, but the latest season goes further by exposing the questionable actions of characters previously seen as morally upright. This narrative choice adds layers of complexity to fan-favorite characters and challenges viewers’ perceptions of heroism.
Two characters in particular, Annie January (Erin Moriarty) and Frenchie (Tomer Capone), have had their pasts scrutinized this season. Revelations about Frenchie’s time as a mafia hitman, including the murder of a child, cast a dark shadow over his redemption arc. Similarly, accusations about Annie’s...
