Jason Statham’s next action-packed thriller Mutiny is officially on the move. Lionsgate has locked in a January 9, 2026 release date for the film, giving the Transporter star another high-octane project to kick off the new year. Statham loves beginning each year with some pulsating action, it would seem, and this marks the third year in a row that he will bring in the new year with putting some bad guys in the hospital, following The Beekeeper's release last January, A Working Man next month, and now, Mutiny.

As per a report by Deadline, Mutiny will land in theaters next year on January 9, 2026, with Lionsgate putting Statham’s latest action thriller up against Universal’s M3GAN spin-off Soulm8te, which releases the week before on January 2. Other than that, the path is clear for Mutiny to make a killing at the box office on its opening weekend.

Mutiny sees Statham in the role as both star and producer as he joins forces with the director behind 2023’s Gerard Butler-led Plane, Jean-François Richet, with the action outing finding The Mechanic star on the run while uncovering a major global conspiracy.

Mutiny is the work of French director Jean-François Richet, who previously brought us the robust Gerard Butler thriller, Plane, which happens to include one of the most unfortunately-named fictional airline companies in film history.

According to Deadline, Statham will star as one Cole Reed, a private security specialist who’s framed for the murder of his billionaire boss. It sort of sounds a bit like 1993’s The Fugitive, though we suspect Statham’s Cole will break more jaws and ribs than Harrison Ford did as Richard Kimble.

Jean-François Richet, the screenwriter, filmmaker and producer behind some of France’s boldest thrillers such as “Mesrine” starring Vincent Cassel, has signed with CAA.

Richet made a splash with his feature debut, “Inner City” (“Etat des lieux”), which was set against the backdrop of a crime-ridden project and scored a César Award nomination. Richet went on direct “Ma 6-t va crack-er” and “Assault on Precinct 13,” a pair of thought-provoking films which also depicted gang violence. His biggest success is the sprawling two-part thriller “Mesrine” with Cassel playing the ruthless, yet charismatic gangster Jacques Mesrine. Richet won best director at Cesar Awards for “Mesrine.” He also directed Mel Gibson in “Blood Father” which played at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

The filmmaker has now launched the production vehicle Public Enemy and looks to produce six genre films per year.

He recently helmed the action thriller “Plane,” starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter.

Max subscribers have been enjoying a 2016 action sequel starring Jason Statham. Mechanic: Resurrection, the nine-year-old sequel to 2011's The Mechanic, has cracked Max's Top 10 list this week.

According to Deadline, Black Bear has commenced production on Statham's next action movie in the UK and Ireland with Ric Roman Waugh in the director's chair. Waugh is perhaps best known for directing a trio of action movies starring Gerard Butler — Angel Has Fallen (2019), Greenland (2020), and Kandahar (2023). He also recently wrapped filming on the sequel, Greenland: Migration, which is expected to be released in 2025. Joining Statham are newcomer Bodhi Rae Breathnach (upcoming Hamnet), Oscar nominee Bill Nighy (Living), BAFTA winner Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), and BAFTA nominee Daniel Mays (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).

An underrated Jason Statham movie is being added to Max next month. Death Race, a remake of the 1975 film Death Race 2000, is set to debut on the streamer at the beginning of December.

Max subscribers won't need to wait long to stream Death Race as the Statham-led action thriller will be added to the streamer on Dec. 1. "Framed for a murder he did not commit, three-time speedway champ Jensen Ames (Statham) finds himself at Terminal Island, the country's toughest prison, but he gets an unexpected chance at freedom when the warden offers a choice: Compete in the Death Race as a mythical driver called 'Frankenstein,' or rot in a cell forever," reads the movie's synopsis. Exclusive: Lionsgate has picked up Rager, an adult comedy from Imagine Entertainment, which Jon Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story) will direct from his script written with Emmy nominee Dan Klein.

While plot details are under wraps, we hear the film is in the spirit of The Hangover. Imagine developed the script with Kasdan and Klein and sold it on spec. Producers will include Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum, with Justin Wilkes exec producing.

In addition to co-writing Solo: A Star Wars Story, which Imagine Entertainment principal Ron Howard directed for Disney/Lucasfilm, Kasdan is known for writing and showrunning Disney+’s Willow, co-produced by Imagine. Mutiny has announced its latest star as the film wraps shooting. Mutiny is an upcoming thriller featuring action star Jason Statham. The film tells the story of Cole Reed, a man who has to take the fall for a crime he did not commit when his billionaire boss is murdered in front of his eyes. Entrenched in an international conspiracy, Cole is forced to go on the run. Statham takes over the lead role of Cole Reed in Mutiny, with a supporting cast that includes Annabelle Wallis, Lee Charles, Jason Wong, and Ben Cartwright.

As per Deadline, one of Mutiny's latest stars has been announced as the film gets a major production update. London-based sales outfit Canoe Film is making its debut in series global distribution with “Mutiny,” a Latvian war drama and call to action against the Russian totalitarian regime, set to officially launch at Mipcom in Cannes.

The brain behind the seven-part series “Mutiny” is Andrejs Ēķis, the Latvian mogul and founder of the major prodco and filming facility Cinevilla Studios which housed Beta Film’s “Sisi” and the Shudder original genre pic “Raven’s Hollow.”

Ēķis serves as director-producer of the intense drama, penned by Latvia’s Ivo Briedis, together with Ukrainian duo Vitaly Dokalenko and Anastasiia Dudchenko.

As explained by Ēkis, the story of Captain Valery Spagin and his attempted mutiny aboard a Soviet warship, is based on true events that unfolded in 1975.
