For fans looking into get into anime for the first time, free streaming service Tubi is honestly one of the best places to start. Although Tubi's anime collection isn't quite as big as what's available on designated anime streamers like Crunchyroll or Hidive, there's a library of eclectic anime series to stream.
In addition to recent series like One-Punch Man, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and My Deer Friend Noko-tan, there's an especially impressive collection of anime from the 1990s and early 2000s: the original Japanese version of series like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura that were never made available in English at the time they originally aired in North America, the cult classic English dub of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! and other classic series including Inuyasha, Naruto, Death Note and Appleseed.
One of the major gems available for free streaming on Tubi is the iconic and influential 1995 cyberpunk anime movie Ghost in the Shell.

A great anime comedy can always bring smiles to viewers' faces. The best titles in the genre can deliver satisfying gags and characters that keep people hungry for more. Characters from popular comedies like Kaguya-sama: Love is Warhave become iconic figures in the anime community for years. However, every so often, a great anime series can overwhelm its viewers with its gags.
Comedy series must always walk a fine line between balancing outrageous gags with their more quiet, dramatic moments. A series that leans too heavily into the same comedic gags can risk becoming stale if there isn't anything to break them up. It's fine for comedy anime to lean into being silly, but too much of it can steer fans away from the show. This might even lead to the series declining in popularity and losing its momentum.

Hard-hitters and small critters. The chilling and the chilled. Villains at the helm and heroes in other realms. Athletes to beat and students who compete. Brothers, lovers… and plenty of others. There simply aren't enough words to sum up the full scope of stories told through English dubs released last year, and even less for the myriad of voices that brought every character to life. There are, however, plenty of numbers. And for a second year, I've put together a detailed overview of every anime we watched and voice actor we heard in 2024! Many anime have well-thought-out plots, full of intrigue and plot twists. Their stories are crafted by masters who want to leave an impact on manga and anime fans. However, just because many anime value their storytelling, the same cannot be said of every anime.
Other anime prefer to leave fans surprised and bewildered with random happenstances that make less and less sense the more the series progresses. While a good story is entertaining at times, sometimes fans prefer nonsensical fun that leaves them scratching their heads.

A-1 Pictures' popular Solo Leveling picks up a rather nice accolade before Season 2 premieres this January as MyAnimeList data crowns it 2024's most popular anime.
The popular anime database and tracker MyAnimeList revealed its most popular anime of 2024. MyAnimeList allows users to add a series to their account to indicate their current watch progress -- while these can include members who plan to watch the series but have not yet, this is generally negligible and can be discarded. Unsurprisingly, Solo Leveling Season 1 was the most popular anime of 2024, leading Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc in second by a massive 246k member lead. It led Dandadan in third by 271k. The top 10 list can be seen below.

The Summer 2024 anime season has come to a close, and looking back, it's easy to see which titles were the best, most entertaining, and most memorable of them all. While My Hero Academia's 7th season was solid and My Deer Friend Nokotan was a bizarre yet welcome surprise, the seinen series Oshi no Ko was arguably the season's best anime with its second season. The first episode of Oshi no Ko hit the ground running with its brutally subversive elements and tense drama, and Season 2 lived up to those high standards.
Season 2 of Oshi no Ko packed plenty of what made the first season such a hit, while also pushing the story in bold new directions and exploring some fascinating new ideas as Aqua and Ruby Hoshino figure out their new lives. This season owes much of its success to what Season 1 established while also adding some wonderful new material that any fan may enjoy.

Much to a certain ex-delinquent student council president's dismay, but equally to her dear kunai-wielding sister's pleasure, September 6 marks Younger Sister's Day in Japan, leading to the official X (formerly Twitter) account for My Deer Friend Nokotan commemorating the occasion with a lovingly sinister new visual. Sanrio's beloved mascots like Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, My Melody and Kuromi have mass global appeal, but official releases are still often exclusive to Japan. Now, however, its latest crossover offers merchandise that's available for pre-order worldwide, and for one of the most heartfelt anime series to air in recent years.
Ranking of Kings, a coming-of-age fantasy anime based on the manga of the same name, premiered in 2021 and took its season by storm. Written by Taku Kishimoto and animated by Wit Studio, Ranking of Kings made headlines for its enormously sympathetic cast, unexpected fairy tale deconstructions and powerful tear-jerker moments. Its new collaboration with Sanrio may seem equally surprising at first glance, although the specific character matchups also feel oddly appropriate.

The following contains spoilers for My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode 6, "The Summer Deer Festival"
My Deer Friend Nokotan kicks off every episode with an irresistible opening theme, "Deer-Colored Days", performed by the main cast. It's a peppy tune, with its hypnotic chants of "Shikanokokokokochitantan" inviting the audience in for the wild ride ahead. And that's the idea; the song says so with lyrics like "Overflowing with chaos! Before I know it, Im hooked, nu-nu-nun!" sung over and over again as the Deer Club do an adorable TikTok-worthy dance. In essence, the anime is daring the audience to make a Faustian bargain: a half hour of absurd bliss traded for a bit of brain rot.

This review contains spoilers for My Deer Friend Nokotan Episodes 1-5.
My Deer Friend Nokotan kicked off its inaugural season with eerie allure and cheeky charm. Introducing a deer-girl whose powers and presence threaten to topple Koshitans squeaky-clean life, the anime's episodes pack a potent blend of delirium and laughs, all hitting like a drunken haze. The series has certainly set a bar, albeit a moving one; each episode is a whimsical game of limbo offering a smattering of shock and satire. The show hasnt been without hiccups, but dont count My Deer Friend Nokotan out yet.
The series embraced its quirks with gusto, morphing its narrative missteps into highlights of absurdity and brilliance. With its unapologetically over-the-top scenes and self-referential sense of humor, the show turned its chaotic charm into a defining feature. Its a bold, unpredictable ride that keeps viewers engaged through its sheer ridiculousness. This is something...

Official production staff behind one of the hottest -- and certainly strangest -- anime series of the Summer 2024 season have just reimagined Rambo as a whole new breed of action hero.

My Deer Friend Nokotan quickly established itself as a show that dances on the knife's edge between genius and madness. The first three episodes were a rollercoaster of surreal humor and bizarre situations, drawing in a niche audience while leaving others wondering what they'd just watched. Beyond its sheer strangeness, this high-wire storytelling act smashes absurdity against a deliberately archetypical high school drama, helping the anime stand out among a crowded class of similar and increasingly derivative school anime.
In My Deer Friend Nokotan Episode 4, "Deer Club Under Siege", the anime ups the ante by pulling back the curtain on the student council. Torako, the ever-under-duress president, navigates the treacherous waters of political players that is her cabinet namely Neko Nekoyamada, Kinu Tanukikaji, and Chiharu Tsubameya. Each of these council members has their own agendas that don't always have the student body in mind. Episode 4 sharpens the show's focus on...

My Deer Friend Nokotans premiere was a dizzying albeit promising affair. Its second episode followed up the first with what can only be assumed to be an amuse-bouche of tasty teases for the rest of the series: more unserious, schadenfreude-abundant, absurd shojo madness, complete with a sweet center. Neither, however, did much to lay the groundwork for a real, season-long story. With that in mind, a lot is riding on My Deer Friend Nokotans third episode, "Bashame, the New Student." The episode itself is fun in a vacuum, but the jury is still out on whether it has enough meat on the proverbial venison bone to sustain the larger story.
If nothing else, My Deer Friend made it clear that it has no interest in wasting the audiences time pretending its anything near normal anime fare. Unfortunately, whether the folks at Wit Studio intend to be beholden to norms or otherwise,...

Wait for me, my utopia! Thats what Torako sings at the start of My Deer Friend Nokotan's second episode, "Deer Meets Darkness Girl." In the cold open, the recently outed former-delinquent schoolgirl skips towards what she expects to be a self-designed, practically perfect clubhouse, blissfully unaware of what waits around an obstructed corner. Its a resonant experience, kind of like waiting week-to-week for this anime's newest episodes.
In episode one, Girl Meets Deer, My Deer Friend Nokotan made headway in establishing the new Wit Studio series as an absurdist comedy worthy of, at minimum, an audit. It did little to set the stage for much else. Instead of dipping its toes into its distinctly wacky waters, the premier sported enough childlike splish-splashing to make Singin in the Rains Gene Kelly blush. Now, with Episode 2, the deer-person shojo thankfully zooms out, at least a little bit, to offer a wider array of offerings,...

Embrace the rollercoaster of absurdity in My Deer Friend Nokotan's valiant attempt to blend the absurd with anime conventions. The daring comedy of "Girl Meets Deer" makes the anime stand out from the norm, despite translation hiccups. My Deer Friend Nokotan disrupts the anime landscape with its fearless embrace of chaos and nonconformity.
Anime juggernaut Wit Studio's latest venture, My Deer Friend Nokotan, spent the better part of 2024 perched high on the list of the years most eagerly awaited new shows. Its offbeat charm and delightfully bizarre marketing campaign earned it a spot on anime-fan radars, offering the potential for an experience as refreshingly weird as its shit-post adjacent promotional material. Yet, despite this impressive build-up, this very premiere episode was tainted with controversy. Its questionable subtitled translation some even assuming it to be AI-generated disrupted the shows momentum and cast a shadow over its premiere. The buzzing hype train was derailed.

An unexpected hit of the Summer 2024 anime season, My Deer Friend Nokotan gained instantaneous popularity due to its surreal humor, eccentric characters, and unforgettably catchy opening theme. Following a former delinquent hiding ber embarrassing past behind a facade of perfection, Torako, and her unlikely new acquaintance, an air-headed deer girl named Shikanoko, My Deer Friend Nokotan is an eclectic explosion of fast-paced absurdist humor that unapologetically embraces the genres weirdness.
The series referential comedy and self-indulgent nonsensicality resonated especially strongly with fans online, who appreciated how perfectly My Deer Friend Nokotan caters to modern internet humor sensibilities. While the bizarreness of the show makes it seem one of a kind, My Deer Friend Nokotan resembles many similar surreal anime comedies where the most illogical of situations become reality. Exemplars of animes weirdest and most comically unorthodox side, these shows are just as unpredictable and hilarious as My Deer Friend Nokotan.

Even though Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland are considered to be the best actors to ever portray the roles of Peter Parker and Spider-Man, for every 2000s kid, Tobey Maguire is the original Web-Slinger. Mostly because it was his original trilogy that became wildly popular, it developed the need for more superhero films on the big screen.

However, Maguire did not become synonymous with the role because he was the first one to play the character, but his trilogy was full of iconic characters and moments. One of the most iconic scenes from the third sequel was the Bully Maguire dance, which became a part of pop culture, leading to the origin of hilarious memes around the world.
Hence, when My Deer Friend Nokotan decided to add a reference from the 2007 film, fans of Maguire and the anime were quick to sing its praise on social media!
