Lacey is amazing

I enjoyed Lacey Chabert in this movie, as I do any movie she's in. She's talented, warm... the ideal Christmas movie diva.

However, I found myself constantly distracted by the appearance of Dustin. He looks like he did some sort of fluid and food fast (bodybuilder stuff) before shooting. I gasped every time he came on screen.

My real problem isn't with this, but with the fact that we, as the audience, are supposed to find this emaciated appearance to be sexy.

I like him as an actor, but this was really hard to watch. What happened to that adorable man from Schitt's Creek?

This movie shocked me more than I'd like to admit, for reasons I never expected.

Netflix is the new cheap Hallmark

Christmas season is coming and so are the heartwarming holiday stories. Which doesn't have much basis in reality, but it's good to watch because it revives our Christmas wishes. Weak characters, a childish story, a film that can only be watched once, but it prepares you for the festive mood. It can be viewed once in the background.

If you want to prepare yourself for this mood, then watch it, but there are much better Christmas movies. It is even better if you watch old holiday hallmark movies, they are also boring, but at least they deal with human stories that smell more alive.

Happy Christmas, and happy Christmas pre-feeling time:)

I'd change just one thing

She should have put the scarf on the dinosaur sculpture.

The second it wrapped around its neck, the frosty T-Rex would've come alive, stomping off to ruin Christmas. Like a prehistoric Grinch, it would snatch ornaments with its tiny arms, devour Christmas hams in one bite, and roar at carolers until their songbooks flew away.

But then, just as it prepared to topple the town's tree, it'd hear a child singing, soft and brave. The dinosaur would pause, its icy heart thawing, and gently set the tree upright. From then on, it wouldn't just celebrate Christmas; it'd carry the town's gifts on its back.

Instead, the scarf went to the snowman. A true loss.

Silly and Fun

This is no 'It's a Wonderful Life', and I don't expect a high rating from many, but I actually made a note to watch it once it was available, and I do not do that often!

There are obvious issues with plausibility, but I expected that going in. The storyline is laughable. I mean that in both the good AND bad way! The characters are mostly textbook, but there's a chemistry here. Some of the cheesiest scenes are almost endearing in their eye-rolling silliness.

When all is said and done, I enjoyed this show. I have an affinity for a few of the characters, and even the most unlikable are goofy enough to forgive.

I recommend you set your expectations low, and just enjoy a cute holiday ride.

Who came up with this?

Who the hell came up with this and can I have whatever they were on? Seriously, how does someone even think of making a movie about a snowman coming to life? It's utterly ridiculous, but honestly... it wasn't half bad.

There are some glaring plot holes (besides the obvious "snowman coming to life" thing). For example, the fact that a school hired a random guy with no background check. Also, the fact that everyone in the town seems to think the snowman guy is insanely hot. I don't want to critique anyone's appearance, but the way they're talking about him... it's like, he's the hottest guy in the world. They should've gotten someone who fit that description or toned down the comments. But if you can suspend your disbelief, it's kind of fun.

The plot is pretty predictable, and the story is nothing new (pretty typical "fish out of water who doesn't know how to function in the real world" stuff). Since I happen to enjoy those kind of stories, I didn't mind it. If you want some silly, stupid fun, you might like this.

I'd say my favorite part, though, was the cops. If you're a Brooklyn 99 fan, you'll like that we essentially see Doug Judy and Charles Boyle team up.

A cozy, fun, and slightly absurd holiday movie.

Lacey Chabert has become the queen of Rom Coms and Hot Frosty is another jewel in her crown. This movie is a fun and light Christmas treat - like a nice glass of eggnog and a gingerbread cookie with a side order of six-pack abs - and Dustin Milligan does an excellent job as a snowman who comes to life, full of innocence and wonder.

The premise is a bit fantastical but what makes it all work is how the film treats this miracle, with pretty much the whole town easily accepting that a snowman could come to life. It's quite sweet. The script is also light on holiday tropes - unlike some Christmas movies that treat them like check lists - and this outing has more heart than expected, of course, the most believable aspect of this movie is how fast someone could fall in love with Lacey Chabert.

In conclusion, Hot Frosty has a cozy, fun, and slightly absurd holiday magic. It's a warm-hearted, snowy romance for those willing to leave a bit of logic behind and embrace the season's cheer with open arms.

Icky

It's a classic "born sexy yesterday" trope, usually done with women but it was equally weird watching the reverse... He is basically a toddler so it's cringey to watch him being sexualised the whole time and her falling in love with him.

Other than that, it was a classic parodic Christmas movie, some fun cast choices. Sweet moments, funny scenes but no laugh out loud moments for me.

I watch Christmas movie channels religiously and have seen ever movie at least a dozen times, some are good cringe, some are bad cringe, and some are actually wholesome. Some are dull, but this one is a bit of a mix of all of those categories for me. It's one of the few I wouldn't want to watch again myself.

Flakey, but fun!

The Netflix Christmas Universe grows every year. I for one love how they do references to other movies in it. Or to other movies entirely.

You know from the title, this movie isn't one to be taken remotely seriously. There are some familiar faces. It's cheesy. It's corny. It's predictable. It's over the top at times. But nonetheless, it's lighthearted and fun. It's sweet and fluffy, like Christmas cotton candy. While no one will win on Oscar for it, the acting is decent, while the cast chemistry is great. I needed something no heavy to watch, and this fit the bill nicely. I've never been a big fan of snowmen, but this one grew on me. He wasn't hard on the eyes, either!

Frosty is canonically a lovable idiot.

A subtle satire of the Hallmark Christmas movies that is in on the joke, but walks the line so finely that it ironically is a solid version of the feel-good, festive films it is satirizing. While the tongue in cheek aspect might be confusing or even off-putting to the target audience, its unique tone helps distinguish it from the heaps of Christmas movies on streaming services.

Dustin Milligan plays a decent himbo made of snow, while Lacey Chabert delivers one of her signature flat performances in straight-to-streaming Christmas films. It's ultimately the comedic performances of Craig Robinson, Joe Lo Truglio and Katy Mixon Greer that elevate the film.

The Departed meets Interstellar

Amazing movie, must not miss. If you like scarfs like I do, you'll love this. It makes you believe that an item of clothing can make almost anything sentient. How they were able to make the snowman look human is absolutely stunning, this will surely be a contender for the Best Visual Effects at the academy awards. The acting was outstanding, actors were hot, then cold, then hot again, and I believed every minute of it. The last time I saw temperature acting like that was at the end of Titanic and I would definitely say this is better. The action was non stop throughout, edge of the seat stuff!!

massive UPGRADE from Hallmark Xmas fare w/comedy & heart

This magical little romcom has something extra - real comedy. It takes a standard Christmas movie formula, down to Lacey Chabert, the queen of Christmas low budget romance movies that are made for television, and levels it up with 1) Dustin Milligan (the hottie from Schitt's Creek, but hopefully soon to be recognized from much more, with his own comedy bonafides) as the romantic interest, and he is several grades above the usual tv movie actor fare. 2) Two of the main characters from massive award winning comedy hit Brooklyn Nine Nine, with "Judy" from that show now the comedic sheriff, who steals every scene, and his deputy "Charles" (who was lead Andy Samberg's trusty sidekick) - both of these actors are comedians well respected in the comedy world and you certainly don't expect to see them pulling their B99 hilarity in a film about a real life snowman! 3) The rest of the cast is charming, as well, and here they're given a bit better material (script/dialog) to work with than in the standard formulaic Xmas movie scripts (which, to be fair, are entertaining for the rate and speed in which Hallmark is pumping them out). So this improved script also helps raise Frosty to lofty heights, with this film up in the clouds looking down on Christmas films of yore.

It's surprising that Netflix would even go near this genre, since Hallmark loyalists are truly loyal, and their shtick is beloved. But I suspect that everyone who loves Christmas films will appreciate this one just a bit more than the others. Very sweet - do more of this, Netflix, and it wouldn't kill you to make a Hanukkah one!

Toddler Frosty

This movie was so painful to watch. I kept watching only to see how much dumber it could get. "Hot" frosty acts like a toddler & we're suppose to think that's hot? And the female lead constantly telling him what not to do & acting like a Mom is romantic? Sheesh the only reason this movie didn't get completely shredded in reviews is because it's Christmas themed & people love anything with Christmas music, lights & snow. It is possible to make Christmas movies worth while.. not these sad excuses for rom-coms filled with hopeless & desperate women who's only hope of love is a snowman coming to life.

why can't they make realistic fake snow yet?

Horribly fake looking fake snow is a pet peeve so that put me off straight away. But my tolerance expands a little for Christmas films so I kept watching. But it was too much. So much unnecessary fakery. The photos of her and her former husband were fake, photoshopped. Why on earth would you do that, with a million male actors and models around? And then... medical notes that are clearly meant to look handwritten but are printed in a very well-known font. But the worst, by faaaar the worst, is the objectifying. The double standard is genuinely worrying. If this were the other way around, with a half naked woman running around in the street, making push moves against a car, and a group of 50+ men making almost-coming noises over her, it would be cancelled in no time. But when it's a man, objectifying him and making him act like his iq is 67 and he merely exist to be pretty, it's ok? (for the record - I'm a woman) I genuinely don't understand the people who loved this. I'm so ready to lower my expectations and enjoy a fun, fantasy Christmas film about a snowman coming to life, truly. In other hands, that could have looked much better, more realistic even, even though it's fiction. Like Big vibes. But no. It's juvenile and cheap, in my opinion. No idea why - isn't Hallmark a company that should be able to afford big, big budgets? Highlight: Jack's face when Kathy bites off the head of a snowman cookie. But I stopped watching after that.

Frosty left me chilled to the bone

Frosty wasn't hot, he was sickly, distractingly so. I thought this was an old movie when I played it. Thought Dustin was younger than when he was on Schitt's Creek with a bad 2010's haircut and before he put on weight and matured into an attractive man. How did no one on set notice how dirty and crusty his hair looked? Was shocked and alarmed to find out it was a recently made movie!

And it's creepy to feel any romance with someone who's emotionally and mentally a newborn/child. These types of movies don't exist for plot, or realism, but they do need chemistry and even maybe something akin to romance.

The most chemistry this has is it's porny title.

almost dirty, goofy story, but it's fun

Stars dustin milligan (schitts creek, extract) and lacey chabert (mean girls). When a snowman comes to life, he accidentally commits a crime. And now the sheriff is looking for him. But no-one can describe his face. Just his... body parts. It's good! Pretty simple story. Some subtle snowman jokes, like when kathy eats the head off of the snowman christmas cookies. Almost dirty, all the ladies in town want him. And don't seem to care that he's just a snowman. It's silly and fun. Keep an eye out for doctor dottie... she was the sister on mike and molly! And the deputy is from reno 911. Directed by jerry ciccoritti. Interesting connection.... he directed fourteen episodes of schitts creek.. which co-starred... dustin milligan! Story by russell hainline; he seems to write a whole lot of christmas-y stuff. Plain, simple, story, but it's entertaining enough.

A Typical 'hallmark' movie

It's not a good movie, but it's also not the absolute worst, I think a great rating would be 4.9 for this one.

Watched it, hoping to get into the Crhistmas spirit a bit more but it didn't do much for me. The acting and plot line is pretty bad and nothing really happens. Plus the main actors do not have any chemistry, like at all.

And could they not have picked a better scarf? He looks like the guy from Narnia (the scarf guy)

There were some fun elements and it keeps it one of the better hallmark movies yet not, complex vibes here.

If you have absolutely nothing else to watch or do, you can watch it.

Suspend your disbelief and you're in for a treat

The movie was silly - but it worked, as it was intentionally constructed to be silly.

Yes, it was about a snowman that came to life, but that was written in a logical and believable way: people behaved, emoted and reacted realistically, and they avoided using the laziest Christmas movie clichés.

There were enough Christmas tropes to create that Christmas feel, and likeable characters played by likeable and competent actors ensured there was real warmth and joy. Importantly, the script was actually frequently quite funny - with almost daring jokes.

In short, for me this stands out head and shoulders above majority of the listless seasonal offerings - already my choice for year's feelgood Christmas film.

It is exactly what you expect it to be, wich is fine with me

Lacey Chabert had a bit of an unusual career. She was one of my "young adult crush" during the early to mid 2000s. I would had expect her career to follow a similar path as Megan Fox or such. Surprisingly after Black Christmas 2006 (wich i really love) i only saw her once in a cheap horror movie about a scarecrow and it was made for TV.

TV movies is where she find her niche i supose, as her filmography from the 2010s and up is almost only that, with 90% being Halmark movies and another 50% of those seem to be Christmas movies.

So lets just say doing another Christmas movie, but this time for Netflix, is not stepping out of her comfort zone.

That said, being a Netflix movie, it does feel a little step above your usual cheap TV movies. For better or worst, depending on your view, this movie blend romance with comedy and obviously goes in a "over the top direction" with caricature characters.

The Sheriff played by Craig Robinson is the "most" of them. He is so absurdly over the top that it does get a bit too ridiculous at times, but he is also essential to the plot.

Outside of that, you got typical romance and "feel good" moments. Its not much original, but it is satisfying if you know what you getting yourself into and thats what you wanted.

I enjoyed the chemistry between the 2 main actors and the overall feeling of a small town during Christmas time where everybody knows everybody. The visuals are also nicely done with plenty of snow. I live in Quebec, Canada and we lucky if we get snow for Christmas these days. So i kinda find some "nostalgia" from my childhood in that.

In the end personally i enjoyed this movie. I knew exactly what it was gonna be and it delivered just that.

So disappointed.

When I saw Joe Lotruglio and Craig Robinson (two of my favorites) were in this, I got very excited. I hoped for an actual comedy, maybe a spoof on the cheesy Hallmark movies my wife watches that I can't bear. That was not the case. Instead, they made something even cheesier and less funny instead. And while all these movies have some element of ridiculousness, this one had a concept that seems thought of by an actual child. It's a shame really. Craig Robinson and Joe Lotruglio are too good and too funny to be wasted on silly cheese like this. Nine NINE! But seriously, this is just another Hallmark movie that doesn't even stand out among them. Not in a good way at least.

a red scarf and other things

A very easy version of Jake Frost. What can you xpect more after a tough job day ? Some humor, some sensuality, a kind of romance - not credible, but after tones of movies of genre, acceptable, not top acting but , with few serious spoons of indulgence, not so awful, and cliches. And a so unrealistic twist than it becomes...reasonable.

For not be critic , a superficial parody sounds just well. And the Charming Prince as result of animated statue or snowman is so dusty idea than it is far by surprises or obstacle to offer full unrealism and some crazy situations. The story of poor Jack is compensated by the nice performances of supporting actors , by the experience of Lacey Chabert, by impetuous lady offered by Katy Mixon Greer and by kick to be improvised schrink of sheriff Nate created by Craig Robinson. Not last by red scarf.

So, Hot Frosty. Preferable, only in boredom period or after tough day , with a cup of tea and some need to full comfort.
