Exactly what you expect, but that is OK

If you have seen the trailer for One Of Them Days, you know what you are going to see, but that is a good thing. The movie delivers on what it promises. There are no big fall out of your seat laughs (well, maybe one), but there are a bunch of good laughs, and overall, this is a fun movie. Also had some nice touching moments between to longtime friends.

Palmer and SZA have great chemistry together. SZA in particular, was great. She was funny and charismatic. You are just kind of drawn to her every time she is on screen. Palmer anchors the film and is in virtually every scene and she does a good job.

The film doesn't break any new ground on the "someone's life falls apart over the course of one day as they overcome obstacles to try to keep things in check" genre, but it doesn't have to. It is content to be a lighthearted comedy and accomplishes that goal.

I had no regrets after seeing this.

Best 90s style comedy in DECADES

I haven't seen a good comedy like this in a really, REALLY long time. It's the best kind, it has both soul and comedy.

One of those days presents a situation we can all relate to and dread ever happening to us. The two protagonists, despite everything, just keep rolling with the punches. "Ok, what is this day going to throw at me NOW?".

They're both flawed characters, HUMAN characters. One should know better and keeps making mistakes that literally drag them both down just as they're about to finally "end" the bad situation they're in. But ultimately, is getting by enough?

Highly recommended.

Turn off the brain and just have fun

"One of Them Days" is a fun, chaotic romp with vibrant visuals and quirky characters. The story balances humor and heart, exploring themes of friendship and community, though it sometimes stretches believability. I didn't know the cast except for Keka Palmer and Lil Rel, but everyone played their roles well, and SZA brought the heat. Stereotyped characters like Alyssa and Berniece shine, while Dreux is less engaging. Strong performances, amusing dialogue, and colorful design and clothes keep the energy high. It's not groundbreaking, but offers an entertaining experience worth a rewatch or two.

One of Them Days is a refreshing and entertaining addition to the comedy genre. I

One of Them Days (2025) is a movie my wife and I watched in theaters tonight. The storyline follows two best friends living together in an apartment where rent is due on the 1st. When one of their boyfriends blows the rent money on a bad investment, they're left scrambling to find the cash within nine hours or risk having their belongings thrown into the streets. How can they make that much money in such a short time while maintaining their dignity? Spoiler: they can't.

This film is directed by Lawrence Lamont, in his major motion picture debut, and stars Keke Palmer (Nope), SZA (Insecure), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Katt Williams (Friday After Next), and Ray Santiago (Ash vs Evil Dead).

This was a very fun movie. The characters, settings, and humor reminded me of the classic Friday films in many ways. The comedy delivery is subtle, but the payoff is hilarious and clever. The film strikes a nice balance between slapstick, witty one-liners, and situational humor, keeping the laughs coming from the opening scene to the closing credits. It also delivers meaningful, indirect messages about friendship, self-confidence, and resilience, all tied together with a satisfying full-circle ending.

In conclusion, One of Them Days is a refreshing and entertaining addition to the comedy genre. I'd give it a 7/10 and strongly recommend it.

One of Them Duds

I have a great appreciation for Keke Palmer; she has truly blossomed into a talented and beautiful young woman. That drove me to watch her in a comedic role, hoping to see her shine. While I managed to find a few moments that made me chuckle, I found myself largely waiting for a genuine laugh throughout the film that never happened.

Unfortunately, it struggled to create a cohesive comedic experience, with humor primarily relying on niche references that didn't resonate with me. Additionally, the awkward pacing often disrupted the flow of the jokes, diminishing their overall effectiveness. To be honest, the film's tone was disappointing, and much of the humor felt outdated. Ultimately, the comedy just fell flat for me.

Gots to support my people

This was a feel good movie! I was really happy to see a lot of young, new Black faces. It was also refreshing to see Keke play a character that seems closer to who she is in real life. I feel like the plot with rent eviction has been done before but it was modern and still engaging. The comedy wasn't too over the top or raunchy either. SZA did a great job with her debut as an actress. Overall, I'm proud to see my people coming together and making movies that we, the culture can appreciate. I expected no less with the individuals who were involved. My only critique would be not enough on- screen time for the number of cameos we got.

It's not quite Friday, but Thursdays can be fun too.

'One Of Them Days (2025)' follows two best friends and roommates, Dreux (social anxiety final boss Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (Bill-killing international popstar SZA), who find themselves hours from eviction when Alyssa's well-endowed but generally no-good boyfriend runs off with their rent money. Taking inspiration from slightly absurd hangout films such as 'Friday (1995)', the feature presents a mixture of situational humour and ridiculous antics as its mostly real-time events play out like a series of skits comprising, well, one of them days. It's rarely outright funny, but it's often amusing and generally charming. The performers all understand the assignment, working in tandem to craft a tapestry of quirky characters and an ever-so-slightly unreal atmosphere that keeps the film feeling fresh even as it depicts ostensibly mundane activities and runs through its genre's expected tropes. For me, it isn't quite distinct or engaging as I'd like, and it generally just isn't quite my thing for reasons I'm not even all that sure of. It's fun enough for what it is, but it never quite hits that sweet spot of absurdist comedy that it kind of promises to. Still, it's an easy-to-watch and typically entertaining experience. It's decent.

Revival of absurd comedy

One of them days is by far one of the most absurd yet hilarious comedies of the new year. The movie gives the nostalgia of early 90s/y2k absurdist humor where the film itself does not rely heavily upon a strong plot point. Keke Palmer is a powerhouse when it comes to comedy especially with her strong performance in NOPE (2022), however who really did surprise me was SZA. The complete lack of common sense that is demonstrated by SZA's character Alyssa, did not fall into the standard archetype for idiotic comedic relief. Instead, the film utilizes her to demonstrate an aloofness that perfectly complements Palmer's character Dreux.

Loaded with stereotypes, but fun

This was a fun movie. Nothing deep, nothing substantial, unlikely to win any major awards, but fun just the same. Great Friday night after a hard week kind of movie. As I've seen others say, switch off your mind and enjoy the right.

The premise is simple, two roommates in a sketchy part of LA don't have the rent money (one of them gave it to her boyfriend who used it to buy t-shirts or something - not a spoiler, that's in the previews). Their corrupt landlord threatens them with instant eviction if they can't come up with the $1,500 by 5:00 pm THAT DAY. So they have to find a way to get that money in the next X hours. (There's a time clock that shows up periodically, after each (mis)adventure, letting us know how much time is left - and the time clock changes hilariously about halfway through).

Surprisingly, this is not a raunchy movie. Usually you expect movies with this many stereotypes to be fairly raunchy. But not a lot of sex jokes, drugs jokes, etc. It's a pretty straightforward movie, and surprisingly funny (middle class white guy here, not usually in on a lot of the "po black folk" jokes).

Should be a fun date movie. Great for just escaping from the week. Not for kids, the language can be really harsh, but not gratuitous.

Enjoy.

Maybe I'm just too old now or something.

I like to think I have pretty eclectic tastes in movies but I'm not sure now considering how much people seem to like this one and it ended up making my very short list of movies I had to stop watching before the end. I found it profoundly uninteresting, unfunny, and just annoying overall. I know of SZA and hear of Keke Palmer before but I don't really know them; maybe you need to be a fan to appreciate this movie more? I hate that if that's what people find cool and funny now, that makes me an old fart completely out of touch, but here we are. I'm sure this will be downvoted to hell but as usual, I'm just writing this review for myself to go back to if I forget what I thought of this movie (though for this particular one, that's unlikely).

A fun movie that gets the laughs!

Wow, one of the best movies I've watched in a long, long time: laughter, comedy, drama and pure entertainment gold!

I don't watch many comedies but love it when find a FUNNY ONE, like this one.

We need more movies like this and more funding for movies like this!

This is a fun movie for pretty much anyone from late teens to 2 feet in the ground! This is hilariously fun movie that anyone who has even an ounce of humor will be laughing and enjoying! So don't buy into this is just for females which limits the appeal. This movie can be enjoyed by pretty much anyone.

Just have fun.

Go see it! It's fun!

'One of Them Days' is held together nicely by Keke Palmer and SZA.

'One of Them Days' is held together nicely by Keke Palmer and SZA, who elevate an otherwise potentially forgettable film into a certainly good one. Them two ensure there is plenty of amusement throughout, those on the cast behind them also bring satisfactory performances.

The plot is probably what you'd expect, given the title. It most certainly is one of them days for the characters involved. The 90 minute run time was a perfect choice, if it went on any longer then it would've dragged - but, thankfully, it didn't. It isn't a deep movie, simply an entertaining one.

One of Them Days is a 2025 American buddy tragicomedy film directed by Lawrence Lamont.

boring movie made by entertaining people

If you REALLY like SZA or Keke Palmer then I could see you finding this movie enjoyable. If you only KIND OF like those two women. . . Find a different movie. This is the perfect example of a very stale movie being made with popular celebrity faces for no reason besides money. Poor timing, pacing, one-liners, and more. A better directer and/or script could have made this potential comedy a genuine laugh-out-loud classic. The delivery wasn't actually too bad on anybody's roll but the movie was just so. . . Meh . . . The whole time, even during the climax. I wouldn't call the movie BAD but i'm not going to call it good.

Friendship, Chaos, and Comedy Gold - "One of Them Days" Has It All

"One of Them Days" is easily one of the funniest and warmest films of the year-a proper feel-good watch that balances chaos, charm, and cracking comedy with effortless ease. Keke Palmer and SZA are absolutely brilliant together, bringing effortless chemistry and infectious energy to their roles as best mates caught in a rent-money disaster.

The film is packed with sharp humour, heart, and a standout supporting cast, making every scene feel alive with energy and personality. With Issa Rae's signature touch behind the scenes, it's the kind of comedy that feels fresh, real, and genuinely hilarious from start to finish. You'll be quoting it for weeks and itching to watch it again and again.

It keeps you laughing.

I knew it would be cheesy but I wasn't sure how well the comedy would be for the entirety of the movie. Sometimes the commercials show the best scenes and you don't get much more of that. I'm happy to say it's hilarious, and I received some comedic humor that I didn't expect to hear or see. I laughed almost the entire movie. Keep in mind that it is cheesy and your typical stoner type humor. They had a fun cast, and they women vibed well together. I'd suggest this for anyone not wanting to take any of it seriously, and can roll with the random plot. It does have its warm fuzzy feel goods at the end as well.

Hilarious Buddy Comedy Elevated by Strong Leads and a Vivid South LA Setting

Directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Syreeta Singleton, this shrewdly rambunctious 2025 comedy has more on its mind than its predictable premise, an absurd caper that has two best friend roommates desperately scrambling to find their rent money before an eight-hour deadline when they face eviction. The freewheeling shenanigans that ensue reflect as much on its unique setting in South LA's Baldwin Village neighborhood, as it does on the madcap sensibilities of the cast and creators. The set pieces come fast and furious - a selfish entrepreneurial boyfriend, a nasty revenge-seeking female named 'Big Booty', a rip-off loan center, a blood bank, a pair of Michael Jordans, a biscuit bandit, and a scary gangster. While some of the sight gags and plot turns are no more sophisticated than Abbott & Costello, much of the action is shrewdly staged and the streetwise dialogue remains sharply on the mark. As buttoned-up Dreux and flighty Alyssa, Keke Palmer and SZA deliver their roles with pure comedy conviction while making their adversity-challenged friendship quite palpable. The rest of the cast is filled with comic gems with standout turns by Keyla Monterroso Mejia as the unsympathetic loan center employee, Janelle James as an incompetent blood bank nurse, and Katt Williams as a philosophical homeless man. Genuinely hilarious.

One of Them Movies With Overzealous Comedy And Surprisingly Deeper Characters

LIKES: Very Quick Pace Fun Performances Some Solid Lines It Has an Attitude In Audio/Visual The Songs If You Like The Genre The Ending Surprisingly Clever, If Cliché Summary: I'm sure most of the crowd will get the vibes from the trailers about the direction of this movie and the atmosphere it brings. It's fun, an unapologetic bout of bad luck in a very dense amount of time, and little restraint to the madness they get to the screen. One of Them Days is swift, a story with enough plot to illustrate the relationships but nothing more than necessary to give you the stakes of their game. Much of the movie is mindless fun that embraces cultural jokes in numerous mannerisms, with solid delivery by the cast of characters each adding their vibe to the community. The dialogue is loaded with jokes, the banter between the two leads alone is a mashup of insults, psyche-up lines, and confusion to entertaining degrees, only amplified by the slapstick extremes they go to for a laugh. Between and during sequences, the movie is all about bringing the attitude to the audience in visual and audio settings, the latter in particular shaking the theater with gunshots, community banter, and loud bass drops with the solid soundtrack. Fans of Hip-Hop, Rap, and Funk are going to love the tracks selected for the movie, most are just fun filler and homage to one of the stars, while others are a well-timed comedic device. When combined with the crazy visuals and a camera dynamic that gives you the perfect angle for their facial expressions, it had me laughing.

Finally, the acting may not be a unique Oscar role to shake things up, but the performances are still enjoyable in the context of the silliness of the film. Calloway did great when she was on screen, but I just wanted more time for her wisdom and guidance to kick in to handle the girls with sass. SZA was very enjoyable to watch. While not as in-your-face as Tiffany Haddish, SZA's character combines the sass of the streets with a surprisingly gentle artistic side that works to make a deeper character be more than just a silly accident. Palmer is my favorite, style, sass, and class all wrapped together for a well-rounded protagonist to adapt to the situations. She's got sensitivity and strength, and I was fascinated by the creativity her character was written to solve the problems. Together, the two leads might be silly, but they have a dynamic that is authentic and not forced, almost as if they had been best friends all their lives. It was the heart of the movie and made the ending deeper and more clever than I had expected this movie to have, with that relationship only further shining in authenticity and making the cliché ending meaningful.

DISLIKES: Plot Needed Time Very Aggressive Comedy Comedy Was Lost On Me Corny At Times Lazy Dialogue A Lot Of Good Parts Ruined In Trailers Summary: I'm sure this is no surprise, but the movie is not story-driven past the point of simply just being two friends in a tight situation. Despite this, the thin tale could have been amplified with either fewer points to explore or more time to give each point its charm and not feel rushed. Near the end, a lot of plots suddenly came colliding together in hasty, shallow, and conventional finishes that just lacked the finesse I had expected from these colorful characters. By maybe not having so much or resolving things earlier at times, I think the movie's ending could have brought the score up even further and delivered that climactic finish. Instead, the movie turned hyper-aggressive in comedy, sometimes trying too hard to be funny and going to that unnecessary length to get a ruse. It didn't help that some of the comedy was lost on me, and without that understanding or relevance, it sometimes got annoying when it detoured from the plot just to put an excessively corny line or skit. In addition, the movie gets very heavy on the language, crossing the line to what I call "Lazy Dialogue" when we just turn into a tennis match of expletives. Realistic as it may be...when the wittier lines turn into just repletion of the F and N words, you lose my appreciation from the oversaturation of "flavor" some writers think it is. As a last word of warning, the trailers have also spoiled about fifty percent of the fun moments of the movie, so take that with a grain of salt when choosing this outing.

The VERDICT: One of Them Days is a fun, silly, and quick escape from reality using a girl's day out gone wrong motif. The heart of the film is the lovely chemistry between the two leads and their ability to sell the lines with the most sincerity and sass they can muster. With an entertaining, though speeding, pace and plenty of supportive elements that add to the fun and mood of the movie, especially if you like the track list interspersed throughout the film. A plethora of over-the-top jokes, slapstick sequences, and stereotypes are ready for the audience to enjoy, so long as you go in knowing what the movie is about and are okay with that full-frontal comedy style. It does go out of the way sometimes, is ridiculous and lazy with the writing, and lacks an original story or depth outside of a few moments. Yet, if you are just looking for a stupid, silly, fun time, this movie is worth viewing when you have a moment. Is it worth a trip to the theater? I can't say yes on this one, probably better viewed on streaming when it comes out. My scores are: Comedy: 6.5-7.0 Movie Overall: 5.0-5.5.

Best Since Girl's Trip

One of Them Days is honestly the vibe we didn't know we needed! It's funny as heck, real as heck, and just straight up relatable. It captures life in a working-class Black community so well, and you can just tell the filmmakers were telling our story. From the first scene, you're pulled in by how authentic everything feels.

The cast? Fire. They have this undeniable chemistry that you can't ignore, and their energy together is everything. It gave me major Girls Trip vibes - like, these two women really knew how to hold it down for each other. Watching their friendship unfold made me feel like I was right there with them, laughing and dealing with life's messiness.

And don't even get me started on the steamy scenes. Like, it's spicy, but in a way that feels natural and not forced. The cast is fine as heck, so you're just sitting there like, "Yup, I'm not mad at this." Plus, the soundtrack is straight chef's kiss. The music hits every time, giving the film so much flavor and just bringing the whole vibe together. It's like the perfect playlist for a girls' night in or out, really.

Bottom line: One of Them Days is everything you need in a feel-good film. It's funny, it's real, and it's got that Black girl magic we all love. If you're looking for a movie to laugh, vibe, and maybe even fan yourself to, this is definitely one you don't want to miss.

Really Fun Watch

I really enjoyed this movie! I came in with meh expectations but was laughing and honestly crying a little through this movie. It's a feel good movie, and was definitely exaggerated at times, but I liked the cast and the way to storyline fit together was great. It was just overall a fun watch. I'd recommend watching with a best friend, since this movie is in fact about best friends. Super feel good, loved it.

It was cool to watch SZA too ,shes a fun actress and Palmer did a great job as well. Plus I liked Palmers love interest and how they were not fighting over dudes. That was really good!!!

We Have to Stop Laughing at Ourselves and Then Continue On Living It

So, if you've seen the previews, then you've seen the movie. It's not much relevant content that fills in the blanks in the full movie.

Even though the movie was made to cater to a particular demographic of people, I feel like the budget for the film was sourced from another particular demographic of people because of the amount of stereotypes that were abundantly reinforced in this film for no seemingly reason at all. It just came across from the producers as "This is how we have to portray these characters if we want to get the money to make this film" and it shows. The comedy was scripted and you could tell due to the amount of force presented in the delivery. Katt William's role came across as more of an anomaly and I didn't understand his relevance other than to attract more viewers.

The best way to describe this movie overall is to think of it as a car. A 1995 Honda Accord vs. A 2025 Accord. Sure, the newer model is more advanced, cleaner, and has some minor upgrades but at the end of the day, it's still a Honda Accord.

It's being compared to the 1995 film, "Friday", but the reason why some of Us can look back at a film like "Friday" and think "That was a great movie" because some of Us have evolved since then and are no longer living that way. So, the movie is just a newer model Honda Accord compared to "Friday", in a sense. The film production and technology looks cleaner. You can tell that the film and edit crew used skin smoothening filters in the final cut. I liked it. It made everyone look pretty. However, the overall message is still the same for Us: "We're financially illiterate and hypersexualized but let's laugh at Ourselves about it anyway."

The weight of this star rating is thanks to Gabrielle Dennis who I thought delivered the best performance, overall. This type of role was appropriate for her style of acting but I also found it to be beneath what she's actually capable of portraying. She's definitely underrated in my book.

We need to learn how to tell new stories because the old ones aren't funny anymore. Entertaining, sure, but it's just not where comedy should be for Us as of today.

Chaos, Charisma and Comedy in a Los Angeles of Bad Luck and Affection

A Day Like That is one of the first positive surprises of 2025, winning over audiences and the box office with a captivating mix of comedy, urban chaos and the charisma of its protagonists. With a modest budget of 14 million dollars and a gross already exceeding 50 million, the film directed by Lawrence Lamont proves that energy, authenticity and good performances can be worth more than great effects or crazy plots. The film also marks the career of SZA, who is making her acting debut, sharing the spotlight with Keke Palmer, who is already recognized in film. Despite the singer's inexperience in the acting field, the chemistry between the two is so strong that it becomes the real fuel for the narrative.

The plot is simple, but packed with frenetic pace: we follow a totally unusual day in the life of two friends, who face a sequence of absurd events with a mixture of despair and good humor. Lamont, who until then had devoted himself to music videos and small productions, makes his debut in theaters with a very sensitive look at the universe portrayed. His greatest achievement lies in understanding the limits of newcomer SZA, betting heavily on the comic timing and spontaneity that the main duo can convey. The comedy here is born not only from the dialogues, but from unusual and exaggerated situations that seem to have come straight out of a chaotic episode of some urban sitcom - and it is precisely in this exaggeration that the film finds its identity.

Although Syreeta Singleton's script doesn't look for great explanations or logical resolutions to the numerous events that unfold, this choice is conscious and contributes to the lightness of the work. The holes and absurdities are part of the charm. The proposal was never to deliver a comedy with its feet on the ground, but rather something close to the surreal daily life of those living on the margins, trying to survive another day in a system that fails its citizens. In the midst of the chaos, the film still manages to make subtle - but sharp - criticisms of the American health system, social inequality and the constant search for dignity in a city that swallows up dreams and bodies with equal ease.

The setting is another highlight. Actually filmed on the streets of Los Angeles, One Such Day has an almost documentary texture at times. The aesthetic brings the vibrancy of the suburbs, the musicality of black culture and a sense of belonging that goes beyond the screen. The viewer feels transported to that universe from the first ten minutes, and part of that comes from Lamont's assured direction, which manages to balance comedy with a clear and dynamic narrative.

Despite a few slips in the rhythm - especially when some jokes cross the line from funny to forced - the movie rarely loses the audience's interest. The stumbles are occasional, compensated for by sequences as unusual as they are amusing, which always keep the viewer curious about what will happen next. The third act, however, presents the most abrupt change in tone. The sense of urgency that had already been established from the start takes on a more evident dramatic charge in the final moments, and even though the film tries to maintain its comic vein until the last minute, the transition from humor to drama is not entirely fluid. Even so, the balance is positive, and the attempt to bring drama to its ending, even if late, works within the proposal.

One of Those Days is a movie about friendship, bad luck and resilience. It's a comedy that isn't afraid to embrace the absurd, and that finds in urban chaos a way of translating the contemporary dilemmas of those who just want to live another day in peace. With its charismatic protagonists, promising direction and contagious energy, the film is a promising debut for Lawrence Lamont. Although imperfect, it is irresistibly entertaining.

Don't waste your time

Seriously? 7.2? And some people gave it a 10/10?! Hell nah. Not funny. Not a single laugh in it. I like absurd comedy but this movie was not that.

The plot was dumb and the script was worse. The two leading ladies' acting wasn't half bad. It's unfortunate they didn't have a better vehicle for them. Issa Rae has produced some really great shows and movies. I don't know what she was thinking with this one. I wonder if she is embarrassed by its low standard.

At the very least, save your money and wait until this comes out on streaming. It's not worth seeing in the theater. But even then, I think your time could be better spent washing dishes or something more productive.
