Frank Serafine, ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Tron’ Sound Editor/Designer, Dies at 65
Frank Serafine
Hollywood sound maven Frank Serafine died on Wednesday in Palmdale, Calif., according to the Los Angeles County Coroner. He was 65.

According to the a report by the Antelope Valley Times, he was fatally struck by a motorist travelling west on Palmdale Boulevard, and Serafine died at the scene of major head and body trauma.

Serafine was known for his work in sound design, editing, and composing for many hit movies, television shows, shorts, and commercials. His list of credits includes “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” (1979), “Tron” (1982), “Star Trek III: The Search for Spock” (1984), “Manhunter,” “Field of Dreams,” “The Hunt for Red October” (1990), “The Addams Family,” and “Tron: Legacy” (2010). He was sound designer on the 1983 telefilm “The Day After” (which won an Emmy for its sound editing).

Sometimes when you’re at a cross roads in life, you do some crazy, misguided things, like head to a rural farm owned by a creepy elderly shut-in. This is what happens in the new independent horror film “The Suffering.” In the film, property appraiser Henry Dawles (Nick Apostolides) has a diminished bank account and a baby on the way with his estranged wife (Elizabeth Deo). Realizing his personal life is in shambles, he decides to take a lucrative offer from elderly shut-in Mr. Remiel (Phil Amico) to appraise his rural estate. Q&A with The Suffering Co-Writer/Director Robert Hamilton
A farm is home to mind-twisting horror in The Suffering, coming out on VOD and DVD on August 2nd from Breaking Glass Pictures, and for our latest Q&A feature, we caught up with co-writer/director Robert Hamilton to discuss the making of his ’70s-style haunted house movie.

Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Robert. How and when did you come up with the story for your new film, The Suffering?

Robert Hamilton: We came up with the concept in the winter of 2013. I had been reading a classic story around Christmas of 2012 (it would be a spoiler to mention which story) and realized it would be the perfect inspiration for a horror film. I pitched [co-writer] Marco [V. Scola] the idea of taking this classic text and loosely adapting it into a modern horror film and he was immediately on board.

Horror 'The Suffering', 'A Demon Within' acquired

Exclusive: Companies have taken all international rights on the Robert Hamilton horror from Blue Fox.

Ariel Veneziano’s Recreation Media and Level 33 Entertainment have jointly acquired all international rights to two horror thrillers from Blue Fox Entertainment.

Robert Hamilton directed The Suffering, about a struggling property appraiser who starts to lose his mind when he is summoned to evaluate a rural estate owned by a recluse.

Nick Apostolides, Regen Wilson, Phil Amico and Chad Eric Smith star. Breaking Glass Pictures acquired Us rights and will release in July.

Ayush Banker and Justin Lareau directed A Demon Within, which stars Clint Glenn Hummel, Patricia Ashley and Charlene Amoia in the story of a demonic possession in the late 19th century.
