Amazon’s head of Pan-English scripted originals Rola Bauer is exiting her role at the tech giant.

Bauer, who was elevated to the position in 2022 as part of a restructuring following Amazon’s $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM, previously served as MGM’s president of international TV.

An individual familiar with the matter tells TheWrap that the decision was made by Bauer, who is looking to “return to her entrepreneurial roots” and pursue options outside the company. The separation was a mutual decision with Amazon and her official date of leave remains to be determined.

During her tenure over the past two years, the Pan-English division has produced six projects, including “Harlan Coben’s Lazarus” starring Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy, “Haven” with Sophie Turner, “Quarter Life” with Riz Ahmed and “The Girlfriend” with Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke.

The long-time Studiocanal executive had originally joined MGM in 2020 in a broader role, as President, International Television Productions.

Under Bauer, the Pan-English division of Amazon MGM Studios has generated six upcoming Prime Video series, including Harlan Coben’s Lazarus starring Sam Claflin and Bill Nighy, — Bauer’s fourth career Coben series — Haven with Sophie Turner, Quarter Life with Riz Ahmed and The Girlfriend with Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke.

Her upcoming slate includes the heist thriller Haven, starring Sophie Turner, Jacob Fortune Lloyd and Archie Madekwe; the family drama The Girlfriend with Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke; and the thriller Lazarus, a psychological mystery from Harlan Coben and Danny Brocklehurst that follows a forensic pathologist, played by Sam Claflin, who becomes entangled in a series of cold-case murders as he grapples with the mystery of his father’s death (played by Bill Nighy) and the murder of his sister (Utopia‘s Alexandra Roach) 25 years ago. On the lighter side, Bauer’s division has also greenlit a new comedy series by and starring Riz Ahmed.

Six more performers have joined the cast of The Girlfriend in series regular roles. According to Deadline, Anna Chancellor, Francesca Corney, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Karen Henthorn, Leo Suter, and Tanya Moodie are joining Robin Wright, Olivia Cooke, Laurie Davidson, and Waleed Zuaiter in the series, which is based on the Michelle Frances novel of the same name. Robin Wright will wear multiple hats on her next series, a Prime Video drama titled The Girlfriend.

Wright will star in, direct and serve as an executive producer of the series, which is based on a novel by Michelle Frances. Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon), Laurie Davidson (Mary and George) and Waleed Zuaiter (Gangs of London) also star in the series from Amazon MGM Studios and Imaginarium Productions.

Wright will play Laura, a woman with a great career, a loving husband (Zuaiter’s Howard) and a close relationship with her son, Daniel (Davidson). Things take a turn when Daniel brings home his new girlfriend, Cherry (Cooke). “After an uncomfortable first meeting,” the show’s description reads, “Laura grows convinced that Cherry isn’t who she says she is. While no one else can see what she sees, Laura refuses to stand by and watch Daniel be deceived. She’ll do anything to protect him.
