There’s a new face keeping watch over Midtown Manhattan. Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter has signed a deal with Gymshark, and to celebrate its new spokesperson, the activewear brand gave the popular streamer her own Times Square billboard.
Hofstetter became one of the biggest streamers on the internet by playing games like Among Us and Fortnite, but she is also a fitness enthusiast. Despite joking about her “frail gamer body,” she has posted snippets of her workout routine on Instagram.
Her deal with U.K.-based Gymshark makes her the face of a retailer known for its athleisure apparel. At the time of this post, Hofstetter is featured at the top of the Gymshark website. Customers can also peruse a collection of “Valkyrae favorites” if they want to try on some of the 30-year-old creator’s favorite fits.
For Hofstetter herself, the Times Square placement is a highlight of the Gymshark partnership.

Murder is afoot once more in the latest Knives Out mystery from writer/director Rian Johnson. So is the world’s greatest detective, Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), who’d grown bored during the pandemic and needed a new case to crack. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery sticks to sequel conventions in that it goes bigger than its predecessor. Still, it also switches tone for a much sillier, more convoluted affair meant to entertain.
Just as Benoit Blanc tires of Zoom chats and games of Among Us, he receives a unique invitation by billionaire Myles Bron (Edward Norton) to attend a weekend murder party on his private Greek island. Also joining the revelry are Bron’s longtime friends Duke (Dave Bautista), Birdie (Kate Hudson), Claire (Kathryn Hahn), and Lionel (Leslie Odom Jr.). Duke’s girlfriend Whiskey (Madelyn Cline) and Birdie’s suffering assistant Peg (Jessica Henwick) round out the bunch.

Streamers who spend too much time online are often told that they should go outside and “touch grass.” Across a recent series of videos, several prominent 100 Thieves partners took that advice literally. 20 members of the esports and entertainment organization — including co-owners Jack ‘CouRage’ Dunlop and Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter — bid farewell to the second-annual Creator Camp by playing a massive game of ‘2 Truths 1 Lie.’
Creator Camp, first organized last year, invites 100 Thieves creators to a lakeside setting, where they can partake in classic summertime games and activities. The 2022 edition of the get-together has a new sponsor in AT&T, but its premise is mostly the same. If you’ve ever wanted to see extremely competitive gamers play incredibly low-stakes games, Creator Camp is the series for you.
The finale of the 2022 Camp presents the 100 Thieves crew with a classic campfire format. By playing ‘2 Truths 1 Lie,’ these creators revealed some fascinating facts about themselves.

Valkyrae has new management.
The streaming star, whose real name is Rachell “Rae” Hofstetter, has signed with Range Media Partners. The upstart talent management firm will work with Hofstetter alongside UTA, which continues to represent the 30-year-old gamer.
Hofstetter, who plays games like Among Us and Valorant, is a rising force in the streaming community. In 2021, she was named as a co-owner of 100 Thieves. The multimedia gaming brand raised a 60 million funding round later that year.
Since the end of her two-year exclusive contract with YouTube Gaming earlier this year, Hofstetter’s primary YouTube channel has been pretty quiet. With her business ventures, she claims to be “investing away” from streaming.
Her agreement with Range links her up with a company that is eager to work across all platforms. The buzzy management firm made waves when it was established in 2020, and it endeavors to steer its “clients’ brands into areas such as Web3, E-gaming,...

As was the case last year, Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2021 was a remote ceremony, boasting major talent, stellar musical performances and a whole lot of the network’s signature slime.
Hosted by Saturday Night Live cast member and Nickelodeon alum Keenan Thompson, the broadcast celebrating kids’ favorite TV shows, movies and games was notable, given the return of a number of winners from recent years.
Some of the night’s major awards went to Wonder Woman 1984 (Favorite Movie), Alexa & Katie (Favorite Kids TV Show), Stranger Things (Favorite Family TV Show) Robert Downey Jr. (Favorite Movie Actor) and Millie Bobbie Brown (Favorite Female TV Star, Favorite Movie Actress). Refresh for updates: The Senate has spoken, and President Donald Trump has once again avoided impeachment. The 45th President of the United States issued a statement thanking his legal team and supporters.
More to the point, he vowed that “Our movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun.” Trump would have been barred from holding any future federal office if he was convicted.
Upon Saturday’s ruling a number of Hollywood figures including Mark Ruffalo, Padman Lakshmi and Wanda Sykes voiced their opinions on the decision, which acquitted Trump of impeachment charges.
While some expressed their disappointment with the outcome of the impeachment trial, others went after Sen. Mitch McConnell who gave a speech criticizing Trump, despite voting that the former president “not guilty” for inciting an insurrection on Jan. 6.

“Fortnite is dead” felt like an increasingly popular sentiment in 2020. You certainly didn’t have to look too hard to find comments from gamers who felt that it was the end of an era for a game so popular that it was prominently featured in the highest-grossing movie of all-time.
But in recent months, it felt like the game had fallen off the cultural radar. Whenever you looked at Twitch, it seemed like most of the service’s most popular streamers had moved on to Call of Duty: Warzone, Valorant, and a legion of viral games like Fall Guys, Among Us, and Genshin Impact. Fortnite rarely felt like the game to watch anymore.
Even as the spread of Covid-19 forced most people into quarantine and boosted the success of games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Fortnite struggled to work its way back into the narrative the same way that it had in the past.

Disney Plus’ “The Mandalorian,” Marvel’s “Avengers” films and Netflix’s “Stranger Things” are the top entertainment franchises, according to a new survey from the National Research Group.
Beginning in January 2019, Nrg, a global insights and strategy firm, conducted more than 350,000 interviews about 700 entertainment franchises to discover which were considered the most bold, inspiring and thought-provoking by U.S. consumers. “Consumers are ready for entertainment franchises to lean into important cultural conversations and create a new reality — one in which optimism, diversity and curiosity unite rather than divide us,” says Jon Penn, CEO of Nrg.
To little surprise, Disney and Marvel dominated the top 20 entertainment franchises with 70% of the entries, which included titles from the film, TV and video game industries.
Beginning in January 2019, Nrg, a global insights and strategy firm, conducted more than 350,000 interviews about 700 entertainment franchises to discover which were considered the most bold, inspiring and thought-provoking by U.S. consumers. The results were analyzed to determine which franchises are most likely to withstand the test of time and continue to evolve and reinvent themselves to remain relevant to their global fans.

Photo: Among Us, Orange is Sus/Inner Sloth Impostors vs. Crew In Among Us, the recently viral online multiplayer game from InnerSloth, each player controls a different-colored astronaut, tasked with performing routine tasks on a spaceship. Each round, a few of the players are secretly given the role of ‘impostor’, and must stealthily sabotage the spaceship, avoid detection, and kill the crew. When a dead crewmember is discovered, an emergency meeting begins, during which all players can vote on who they think the impostors are. This goes on until either all of the impostors have been discovered or all of the crew are dead. Aesthetically, the game is quite simplistic. The crayon-colored cartoon astronauts have legs but no arms, and when they die they look like a holiday roast with a single bone sticking out of the torso. The game takes a familiar survival horror trope--being trapped in an isolated...

The game is about a group of crew members trying to repair their space facilities, while simultaneously trying to identify which among them is secretly a killer impostor. It is basically like John Carpenter's The Thing.

When you think of video games, it’s easy to envision a relaxing hobby spent chilling out and letting off some steam with the likes of Animal Crossing or Skyrim. That said, on the other side of the same coin, there’s a whole other world out there crammed with stress-inducing, controller-breaking frustration.
Indeed, while many gaming experiences are designed around the concept of pleasure and relaxation, there’re tons of titles that attempt to do the exact opposite to their playerbase. From the survival horror of Alien: Isolation to the brutally unforgiving RPG action of Dark Souls, it’s fair to say that there’s a burgeoning market for all those hardcore, masochistic enthusiasts out there. In other words, in the realm of gaming, stress can sometimes be, well, fun.

The game Among Us is the latest mobile game to gain an immense following worldwide. Based in a space-like setting, players have increasingly drawn comparisons between the game and films like John Carpenter's The Thing for its mystery premise. Players get to play the roles of 'Crewmates' while one among them remains to be an 'Impostor'. Unless the Impostor has been spotted, it continues to hunt down the Crewmates.

Hence, the growing popularity of Among Us is also quickly becoming one of its weaknesses. There are plenty of times when the game just crashes out of nowhere.

U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took over Twitch yesterday, as more than 400,000 viewers sat down to watch her stream a few hours of popular party game Among Us as part of her campaign to encourage people to get out and vote. Joining her were streamers Pokimane, DrLupo, Myth, Maia, Jacksepticeye, MoistCr1TiKaL, Hasanabi, and Disguised Toast as well as Congresswoman and fellow Squad member Ilhan Omar.
In short, it was a pretty cool event, and it was made even better when Congresswoman Omar took to Twitter to share a photo of her gaming PC:

While some decide to invest their hard-earned money in rental housing, stocks or precious metals, others have turned to the world of graded cards as a means of expanding their net worth.
Sports cards have long been a popular (if unconventional) means of investing money, of course, but even the high prices some of those fetch at auction pale in comparison to Pokémon. As the highest-grossing entertainment product in history – total revenue currently stands at an eye-watering $103 billion – it’s perhaps not at all surprising that some of the oldest and rarest merchandise ever created for the franchise demands premiums in the hundreds of thousands. As Pokéfans will undoubtedly already know, several incredibly sought-after cards have gone under the hammer for six-figure sums this year alone, and that list has grown even further today.
Perhaps even more surprising, however, is the identity of the individual who just dropped $220,000 on Pokémon’s so-called crown jewel.

An effective horror keeps you unaware of the danger lurking in the shadows. The less you know about what’s coming the better because you don’t want to end up spending your time guessing how the problem will be solved when you should be experiencing its escalating terror. This means filmmakers won’t be able to rely on jump scares to wake audience members up, a staple in mainstream Hollywood genre fare wanting everything spelled out in lieu of atmospheric tension that builds its mythos as it progresses. The task then falls to indie artists with the creative freedom to place their vision onscreen regardless of bottom-line concessions. They can afford to scare with what’s not made visible as opposed to that which is manipulated to shock with brute force.

Here at The Film Stage, we’ve been following the career of budding independent filmmaker Gary King from his early New York-based films New York Lately and What’s Up Lovely to his spirited musical How Do You Write a Joe Schermann Song. This experimenting with genres has led King to his first horror film Among Us, which boasts a familiar cast from his previous films and bills itself as a love story with a unique horror twist.
Influenced by the 70s, the lush golden era of horror films, King aims to focus more on atmosphere versus a traditional gore fest. It doesn’t hurt either that King’s specialty is with intimate Diy style dramas, so there’s sure to be some interesting choices that eschew the typical tropes of this genre.

"It's pushing through." "What is?" "Something big." A full-length trailer has debuted for a new indie horror film called Unnerved, written and directed by Gary King, an up-and-coming filmmaker who is a friend of this site. The film is about a couple whose child is killed but they still feel his presence. They flee to a remote lake house to escape the unrelenting haunting following them, but (of course) learn that it's still very much with them. Starring Katie Morrison, Mark Diconzo, Elena Sanz and Marty Lang. Kenneth Lampl and Darren Tate are the composers of Magnolia Picture’s “Frontera”. What makes them so unique? They've never met in person. Join us as we talk with them about their interesting and unique working relationship.
Working partnerships are common in the movie-making industry. Pooling together knowledge and talent is one way to create a more appealing and more complete product. Furthermore, for large projects with lots of work to do and tasks to complete, it makes the burden easier to bear (we all know how helpful it can be to have a shoulder to lean on). What is not common is having such partnerships develop across an ocean and not in person. For Kenneth Lampl and Darren Tate, that's exactly what happened.
