Dennis Quaid is set to mark a haunting role in his filmography: Playing a serial killer. Starring alongside Annaleigh Ashford, upcoming Paramount+ series “Happy Face” follows real-life murderer Keith Jesperson, also known as the Happy Face Killer. Ashford stars as Jesperson’s daughter Melissa Reed Aka Melissa G. Moore, who is forced to confront the carnage caused by her father during the trial of another alleged killer.

“Keith Jesperson is a serial killer,” Quaid told IndieWire of his character at Paramount+’s The Lodge in SXSW. “He killed eight women in five years. He was also a father to Annaleigh’s character, Melissa, and she had a very close relationship. Then she found out at the age of 15, when he was caught, that he was a serial killer. How do you reconcile having that loving dad, with this monster, what he did? That’s basically what the show ‘Happy Face’ is about.

Another Emmy-winning comedy actor has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection, the upcoming sequel series to Dexter: New Blood. Eric Stonestreet, who famously played Cameron Tucker on all 11 seasons of Modern Family, has been tapped to recur on the series in what is believed to be a serial killer role.

The exclusive comes from Deadline, the same outlet that previously reported both Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter's casting news. Apparently, all three characters are playing serial killers as part of their guest-starring arcs. It remains to be seen if they're going to work together in some capacity, or just be one of several villains that Dexter has to eliminate.

Deadline says Stonestreet has been cast as a character named Al. Like the actor, Al also hails from the Midwest and will reportedly appear in four episodes as part of a "high profile guest-arc."

In a high-profile guest-arc, he will play Al. The character, who shares Kansas City native Stonestreet’s Midwestern background, is believed to be a serial killer. The new batch of episodes are scheduled to begin airing on April 13th – and ahead of that date, Variety has revealed the names of six new additions to the cast, including the great Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix). The actor, who is often referred to as “Joey Pants,” recently appeared on just one episode of Dexter: Original Sin as a character called Mad Dog, who exited way too soon. Here’s hoping he’ll be on The Last of Us for a while longer.

Pantoliano’s fellow new additions to the cast are Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), Ben Ahlers (The Gilded Age), Hettienne Park (Hannibal), Robert John Burke (RoboCop 3), and Noah Lamanna (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds). Details on their characters have not been revealed.

This, most notably, included the building of The Code with his father Harry which shaped Dexter’s vigilante killer mentality for the rest of his life. The series marks the second spin-off in the franchise following Dexter: New Blood, which continued the story years after Dexter left off. The next in sequence will be Dexter: Resurrection, coming this summer.

As a prequel, Dexter: Original Sin features an entirely new cast of actors playing younger versions of characters from the original, along with new characters.
