Dexter Morgan is alive!
The 2021 revival series Dexter: New Blood ended with everyone's favorite serial killer being apparently murdered by his son, Harrison. However, the 2024 prequel series Dexter: Original Sin revealed that Dexter survived the shooting and was rushed to the hospital, where the emergency room doctors worked their magic on him. "I've experienced death so many times, but never my own," Michael C. Hall's titular character said in voice-over. "Ahh, a beating heart. I'll take it."
That brings us to Dexter: Resurrection, which has a release date of Summer 2025 on Paramount+ and Showtime. Production began in January 2025 in New York, with Hall back as the former blood spatter analyst who's now living on the run after being outed as a serial killer known as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Dexter: Original Sin is a prequel to the Showtime series Dexter, which expands on the initial killings of the infamous vigilante serial killer. I’ve got some fresh news for you about the upcoming series ‘Dexter: Resurrection’. Showtime just added David Dastmalchian to the cast, and he’s stepping in as a guest star named Gareth. If you’re wondering who this guy is, think back to his creepy vibes in ‘The Dark Knight’ or his part in ‘Oppenheimer’—yeah, that’s him.
The show’s bringing back Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, the serial killer we can’t stop watching. Filming kicked off in New York back in January 2025, and we’re looking at a summer premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime. Clyde Phillips, a familiar name from the original ‘Dexter’ days, is running the show and producing it too, alongside Hall and a few others like Scott Reynolds and Tony Hernandez.

Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. After being listed as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) original series for the fourth quarter of 2024, the renewal is not surprising.
Paramount+ reports that the fourth quarter Top 10 SVOD list marked the first time a streamer, other than Netflix, has earned three spots. Paramount+ was represented by Tulsa King (#4), Landman (#8), and Lioness (#9).
“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” stated Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.

And SXSW 2025 hit the ground running on the activation front, with the likes of Paramount, Prime Video, and FX on the ground to welcome fans into worlds they usually only see on screen.

“Landman” will be returning for a Season 2. It’s an unsurprising move from Paramount+ considering how big of a hit the Billy Bob Thornton-led drama has been for the streamer.
The premiere episode of the Taylor Sheridan series secured 35 million streaming viewers globally, making it the most streamed premiere episode in the history of Paramount+. Additionally, “Landman” set internal records for debuting the most-watched finale in the history of the streamer and becoming the No. 1 most-watched Paramount+ original, the No. 1 engagement driver and No. 1 show in households.
The success of “Landman” continued a hot streak for Sheridan and Paramount+. Three of Sheridan’s streaming originals — “Landman,” “Tulsa King” and “Lioness” — ranked among Nielsen’s list of the Top 10 SVOD Original Series during the fourth quarter of 2024. Sometimes, the funniest people end up turning in some of the most intense dramatic work, so it should come as no surprise that Eric Stonestreet, best-known for making audiences laugh as Cameron Tucker on Modern Family, has lined up a killer role on Dexter: Resurrection. The actor joins a series of big names with major story arcs in the next thrilling chapter of the titular character's life.
Per Deadline, Stonestreet has joined the cast in a major guest arc on the series. The actor is expected to appear in four episodes and will portray a serial killer called Al. The Modern Family alum joins Krysten Ritter's Mia and Neil Patrick Harris' Lowell, who are rumored to have guest stints as serial killers that will keep Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) very busy. Dexter: Resurrection has been filming in New York since January and will arrive on Paramount+ with Showtime this summer.

Eric Stonestreet, the lovable goofball we know from ‘Modern Family,’ is jumping into a role that’s about as far from comedy as you can get. He’s set to creep us out in the new Showtime series ‘Dexter: Resurrection,’ and I’m already hooked on the idea.
Stonestreet’s playing a serial killer named Al, a Midwestern guy with a chilling secret. It’s a wild leap from his days as Cameron Tucker, the over-the-top dad on ‘Modern Family.’ That show ran from 2009 to 2020, racking up 11 seasons and earning him two Emmys for his spot-on humor. Now, he’s ditching the laughs to join the twisted world of Dexter Morgan.
If you’re new to this, ‘Dexter’ first hit screens in 2006, following a forensics guy who moonlights as a vigilante killer. Michael C. Hall made the character a legend over eight seasons, even if the ending in 2013 left us scratching our heads.

Dennis Quaid is set to mark a haunting role in his filmography: Playing a serial killer. Starring alongside Annaleigh Ashford, upcoming Paramount+ series “Happy Face” follows real-life murderer Keith Jesperson, also known as the Happy Face Killer. Ashford stars as Jesperson’s daughter Melissa Reed Aka Melissa G. Moore, who is forced to confront the carnage caused by her father during the trial of another alleged killer.
“Keith Jesperson is a serial killer,” Quaid told IndieWire of his character at Paramount+’s The Lodge in SXSW. “He killed eight women in five years. He was also a father to Annaleigh’s character, Melissa, and she had a very close relationship. Then she found out at the age of 15, when he was caught, that he was a serial killer. How do you reconcile having that loving dad, with this monster, what he did? That’s basically what the show ‘Happy Face’ is about.

You'll never guess which Modern Family star just landed a serial killer role on Dexter: Resurrection
Another Emmy-winning comedy actor has joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection, the upcoming sequel series to Dexter: New Blood. Eric Stonestreet, who famously played Cameron Tucker on all 11 seasons of Modern Family, has been tapped to recur on the series in what is believed to be a serial killer role.
The exclusive comes from Deadline, the same outlet that previously reported both Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter's casting news. Apparently, all three characters are playing serial killers as part of their guest-starring arcs. It remains to be seen if they're going to work together in some capacity, or just be one of several villains that Dexter has to eliminate.
Deadline says Stonestreet has been cast as a character named Al. Like the actor, Al also hails from the Midwest and will reportedly appear in four episodes as part of a "high profile guest-arc."

The new batch of episodes are scheduled to begin airing on April 13th – and ahead of that date, Variety has revealed the names of six new additions to the cast, including the great Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix). The actor, who is often referred to as “Joey Pants,” recently appeared on just one episode of Dexter: Original Sin as a character called Mad Dog, who exited way too soon. Many fans of Dexter have been watching Dexter: Original Sin, and the fantastic prequel has prompted some, present company included, to re-watch the original. The original show premiered in 2006, which was almost 20 years ago. So, it’s easy to forget a lot of the minor details. One such detail is just how close Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) came to being caught... on more than one occasion.
In Season 2, the dismembered bodies wrapped in garbage bags that Dexter had been so neatly disposing of for years finally rose to the surface. Piecing everything together (literally), Miami Metro P.D. theorized that there was a serial killer in action, whom they named the Bay Harbor Butcher. They brought in Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine) to assist, a man with a reputation for solving cases and a specialty in investigating serial killers. His reputation for sniffing out serial killers was impressive,...

The Officeis an NBC mockumentary sitcom that follows the lives of workers at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. For most of its seasons, the branch manager was the quirky, over-the-top Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell. The show adhered to a workplace comedy format, setting the standard for numerous shows that followed in its footsteps.

As far as prequel series go, Dexter: Original Sin did a fine job of bringing the origin story of Dexter Morgan from Dexter to life. This, most notably, included the building of The Code with his father Harry which shaped Dexter’s vigilante killer mentality for the rest of his life. The series marks the second spin-off in the franchise following Dexter: New Blood, which continued the story years after Dexter left off. The next in sequence will be Dexter: Resurrection, coming this summer.
As a prequel, Dexter: Original Sin features an entirely new cast of actors playing younger versions of characters from the original, along with new characters. In some cases, there are new actors playing characters seen only in flashbacks in Dexter. Now that the first season has ended, however, fans are eager to learn if it will be coming back for a second.

But even die-hard fans might have completely let their memories slip about some of the more subtle details and even a few things viewers might not even have noticed the first time around.
