6 Broken Nightcrawler Powers From Marvel Comics That Alan Cumming Can Unleash in Avengers: Doomsday
Image
Nightcrawler, the teleporting mutant with a soft heart, has graced silver screens in the past X-Men films and also the animated show X-Men ’97. Kurt Wagner, Nightcrawler’s real name, is often portrayed by two-time Emmy-winning actor Alan Cumming, who is set to reprise his role as the indigo mutant in Avengers: Doomsday.

Alan Cumming is known for his acting in theatrical productions, along with roles in the hit franchise Spy Kids and CBS’s The Good Wife. In an exclusive with People on August 17, 2025, Cumming recalls a disastrous filming experience working with director Bryan Singer on X2 as Nightcrawler. He is more than glad to suit up once again...

Helen Mirren's Controversial Historical Epic Was Banned During Its Initial Release
Image
Tinto Brass' 1979 Roman orgy movie "Caligula" is one of the more notorious cult films of its era. It wears the cloak of an award-bait prestige picture, but is also an infamously terrible piece of slapped-together art porn. Made for a budget of over $17 million, "Caligula" boasted impressive performances from classy, world-famous actors such as John Gielgud and Peter O'Toole. Malcolm McDowell, having already appeared in dark, violent pictures such as "If...." and "A Clockwork Orange," was right at home in the title role, playing Rome's mad emperor with his trademark verve. Helen Mirren played Caesonia, a courtesan that Caligula marries to the consternation of his sister Drusilla (Teresa Ann Savoy), also his incestuous lover.

Noted author and media bon vivant Gore Vidal was paid $200,000 to write the screenplay for "Caligula," but insisted his name be removed after lengthy scenes of sex and violence were added to the film without his input.

Original ‘Spartacus’ Series Surges on Streaming Charts Ahead of Upcoming 'Ashur' Sequel
Image
The dream of every gladiator when he or she steps onto the sands of an arena is victory, and an opportunity to rise to the very top as champion. Over a decade since it aired, but Starz's epic series, Spartacus, is still dominating the streaming charts, much like the gladiators within did. The original series ran from 2010 to 2013, returning audiences to the gladiator world and Ancient Rome. Thankfully, the long-awaited sequel series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, will premiere this fall, and is we near its premiere, interest in the original series continues to grow. According to data sourced from FlixPatrol, the blood-soaked Spartacus series is the number one television series streaming on Starz right now. While Power and its spin-offs occupy positions in the lower half of the Top 10, the Top 5 is completed by Three Women, Sweetpea, Outlander, and Bmf. The gladiatorial series' performance is even more impressive when...

‘Big Bang Theory’ Spinoff ‘Stuart Fails to Save the Universe’ a Go at HBO Max
Image
In keeping with the scientific concept that is its namesake, the universe of The Big Bang Theory keeps expanding.

HBO Max has formally greenlit Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a comedy that will center on comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), who had a heavily recurring role on the original CBS series. The show comes from Big Bang Theory co-creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and Zak Penn (Free Guy, Beacon 23) — and unlike the original series and its other spinoffs, Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, it will feature a heavy dose of sci-fi alongside its comedy.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is the first series pickup for the newly re-renamed HBO Max, whose changeover from Max went live on Wednesday.

“We’re excited to be continuing the legacy of The Big Bang Theory,” said Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content.

Neon Sets U.S. Release Date For Asif Kapadia’s Dystopian Doc ‘2073’ – Watch The New Trailer
Image
Neon announced on Monday that 2073, the new genre-bending documentary from Oscar winner Asif Kapadia (Amy), will be released in select U.S. theaters on December 27th. The studio also unveiled a new trailer, which you can view above.

Starring Samantha Morton (The Serpent Queen) and Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), 2073 is inspired by Chris Marker’s 1962 featurette La Jetée about a time traveler who risks his life to change the course of history and save the future of humanity.

In the film, it’s the year 2073, and the worst fears of modern life have been realized. Surveillance drones fill the burnt orange skies and militarized police roam the wrecked streets, while survivors hide away underground, struggling to remember a free and hopeful existence. A blend of science fiction and speculative nonfiction, the film transports us to a future foreshadowed by the terrifying realities of our present moment. Morton plays a...

It's a wrap! Ginny & Georgia season 3 wraps filming ahead of 2025 release
Image
And just like that, the cast and crew have finally finished shooting the highly anticipated Ginny & Georgia season 3. According to Deadline, the cameras officially stopped rolling on the third season on Sept. 13. Ginny & Georgia cast member Sara Waisglass, who plays Maxine "Max" Baker in the hit teen series, just recently took to Instagram to express her excitement about production wrapping.

Honestly, it comes as no surprise that production has wrapped this month. Back in February 2024, there was a rumor going around that the third season would begin filming on April 29, 2024, and run through to September. Principal photography did, in fact, start on this date, with Netflix sharing several photos of the cast at one of their table reads for the third season.

Quick Links Beacon 23 Season 3 Is Canceled Beacon 23 Season 3 Cast Beacon 23 Season 3 Story Beacon 23 Season 3: Further News & Info

The mind-bending sci-fi series Beacon 23 returned to MGM+ for its second season in early 2024, but it was canceled before season 3. Based on the Hugh Howey novel of the same name, the story is set in the farthest expanse of the galaxy as a lonely lighthouse keeper is shocked to discover he has a passenger with mysterious motives. Besides the tense interpersonal struggle between the isolated and suspicious characters, there was more than meets to eye with the mysterious beacons, and the first season merely scratched the surface.

Reviews for both seasons of the MGM+ original have been somewhat lackluster, with many pointing out the shortcomings of the characters (via Rotten Tomatoes). Though season 2 did little to address previous concerns, Beacon 23 is the type of ambitious sci-fi series...

Read The Pilot Script Online for Scrapped Amazon Version of Stephen King's Dark Tower Series
Image
Fans of The Dark Tower have been given a big retrospective glimpse into what might have been if Amazon Studios had backed the original plan to bring Stephen Kings magnum opus to the small screen. While things seem almost certain to now move ahead under the guidance of Mike Flanagan, those eagerly anticipating the new attempt to bring the story of Roland Deschain to life can read the full pilot script by screenwriter and producer Glen Mazzara for Amazons scrapped series.

Stephen Kings The Dark Tower needs very little introduction, and the same can be said of the troubled road many have trodden in an attempt to adapt the eight-novel series. From Ron Howards ambitious plans to create a multi-movie/series universe in a theatrical-streaming combo a la the Marvel Cinematic Universe, to the hugely disappointing movie version starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey that almost killed any future chances...

The Dark Tower: Glen Mazzara shares the pilot script for his scrapped Stephen King series
Image
Once set up at Netflix, Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy’s production company Intrepid Pictures now has an exclusive multiyear overall series deal with Amazon MGM Studios and one of the shows they’re working on for Prime Video is Flanagan’s dream project, a series adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower novels. Fans are anxiously waiting for updates on the status of that project – but when it moves forward, it won’t be the first time someone has attempted to make a TV series version of The Dark Tower for Prime Video. Five years ago, Glen Mazzara, Akiva Goldsman, and King himself developed a take on the material and a pilot episode was shot, with Stephen Hopkins directing and Sam Strike in the lead role of gunslinger Roland. Amazon decided not to move ahead with the series at that time… and for fans who have been wondering what the pilot episode was like,...

Popular YouTubers Turn to Self-Branded Streamers - Will It Work?
Image
YouTube has become an undeniable force in entertainment. Every month, the video site tops Nielsen’s list of most-viewed platforms. But content creators are beginning to jump ship, believing that they’ll be more profitable and have more freedom on their own branded streaming services.

The Try Guys moved their content to a streamer called 2nd Try ($4.99), “Unspeakable” creator Nathan Milner is in the process of creating his own branded service, and “Dungeons and Dragons” darlings Critical Role have built Beacon ($5.99).

In their announcement videos, creators frequently take aim at the frustrations of the YouTube algorithm. There’s a reason every thumbnail features the “shocked face” of a channel creator - YouTube has reason to believe you’ll click on those more frequently. The algorithm is why every creator begs you to “like and subscribe” - those are two important success signals on the platform, and the subscription can bypass the often-frustrating search results.

Beacon Review: I Think I've Seen This Tensionless Psychological Thriller Before
Image
Tension & suspense are lacking in Beacon's intriguing story. Horror elements feel shoehorned in and arrive too late. The relationship between Emily and Ismael falls short in delivering thrills.

Beacon begins with an interesting enough premise young sailor Emily has set out on her own when her boat crashes off of Cape Horn. She awakens on an island inhabited by lonely lighthouse keeper Ismael. Initially, he's kind enough, but the inherent tension between the strangers soon rises to the surface as Emily feels increasingly uncomfortable around Ismael. It's a plot ready-made for suspense and mystery.

Tribeca Review: Lost at Sea in “Beacon”

Sailing around the world is a bold adventure that few are equipped to undertake and even fewer would even seriously contemplate. The likelihood of survival given unpredictable factors isn’t high, and that’s especially true for someone choosing to do it alone. Beacon presents one scenario where a young and driven woman tries to accomplish the feat only to find herself stranded somewhere with a man who seems nice enough but who she really isn’t sure she can trust…...

‘Beacon’ Tribeca Review – Paranoid Psychodrama Leaves Most of Its Horror at Sea
Image
Seafarers are superstitious folk. It’s unsurprising, given the ocean’s volatile nature, that sailors would look for omens to embrace or avoid in the hopes of a safe voyage. It’s a failure to properly honor nautical superstition just before a shipwreck that kickstarts Beacon, a paranoid psychological thriller that traps two strangers together on an almost inaccessible island. Unreliable narrators create constant shifts in allegiances as superstition creeps further into the mix, but the ultra-lean plotting and horror elements leave the psychodrama drifting at sea.

Beacon introduces Emily (Julia Goldani Telles), a young woman circumnavigating the globe on a solo sail using old-school techniques. She hails from a long line of seafarers, though she’s the first woman in her family to continue the tradition. Considering the common nautical superstition involving women on board, that sets her off on the wrong foot. Then she eats her offering to the sea god Neptune.

Beacon Stars Discuss Shipwreck Thriller Ahead of Tribeca 2024 Premiere
Image
Quick Links Braving the Storm Together in Beacon On Working With Director Roxy Shih

Demin Bichir and Julia Goldani Telles will be the first to say that shooting Beacon on location was simultaneously one of the most challenging and most rewarding perhaps even most fun experiences they'd ever had on a production. "The actual location kind of gave me everything that I needed because it [was] such a violent climate," said Goldani Telles of the storms in Newfoundland, a small coastal province in Canada, in our Zoom interview ahead of the film's premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Festival. She later recalled how the cast and crew even lost "a couple half-days [because] the wind was too intense it was too dangerous." Of course, when you're making a shipwreck thriller, these conditions are ideal.

Directed by Roxy Shih (Painkillers) and written by Julio Rojas, Beacon follows Emily (Goldani Telles), a young sailor embarking on...

Beacon 23 Co-Showrunner Glen Mazzara On Bringing Humanity To The AI Stories Of Season 2
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Beacon 23 season 2!

Beacon 23 intensifies in season 2 after Aster's tragic death, with new characters entering the scene and Halan's central story arc taking over. Glen Mazzara details the challenges of expanding Beacon 23's isolated universe in season 2 while maintaining mystery and engagement. Character arcs like Harmony, Dev, and Iris are explored in depth, adding layers of complexity and tension to the sci-fi series.

MGM+'s epic sci-fi show Beacon 23 is halfway through season 2, but the mysterious plot has plenty of steam left.
