Exclusive: Toronto’s Boat Rocker has hired BBC Studios (Bbcs) exec Brad Horvath to lead its sales biz in the U.S. and Latin America.
Horvath will be Vice President of Content Sales for Boat Rocker Studios, selling scripted and feature docs out of the Canadian company’s L.A. office, while feeding into the company’s wider sales strategy.
Effective immediately, he will report into Jon Rutherford, Boat Rocker Studios’ President of Global Rights, Franchise and Content Strategy.
“As a well-respected executive, with deep industry relationships and strong knowledge of the current marketplace, Brad will be an invaluable resource as we continue growing our global distribution business,” said Rutherford.
Horvath’s move won’t mean relocation as he was based at the BBC’s L.A. office, selling content and overseeing partnerships with networks and streaming platforms. His departure from Bbcs comes after the hire of former Banijay Rights exec Robin Pollok,...

Video Nasty concludes on a pleasingly chaotic note. Here’s our Video Nasty episode 6 review.
Warning! Unlike previous episode reviews, this review will be full of spoilers for Video Nasty episode 6!
Video Nasty comes to an end with episode 6 and what a chapter to conclude on. Episode 5 ended with Zoe and Joe getting hit by the parents’ car, but luckily Zoe is alright. You can’t really say the same about Joe, who is just about alive but not for long as Zoe runs him over with the car.
I mentioned in the last episode review that I had a feeling Topher might switch sides and that’s exactly what happens in the finale here. Topher ends up helping Billy and Con escape Ethel and the village priest, but it ultimately costs the poor kid his life.
Video Nasty has been implying gore and violence throughout its previous five episodes...

After an action-packed previous instalment, BBC horror comedy Video Nasty slows the pace down. Here’s our review of episode 5:
Spoilers lie ahead.
Welcome to another review of BBC’s Video Nasty! We’re now up to episode 5 and I do hope you’re reading this after you’ve managed to pick your jaw off the floor after the shocking revelations in episode 4.
Video Nasty episode 5 begins with a news story on the history of Ashdale. The village has a long history of burning things on a pyre that the villagers believe are destroying society and harming their Christian values. Guess what’s going on the pyre this year? Yep, video nasties!
Billy, Zoe and Con, after discovering the bodies in Ethel’s shed basement and managing to escape their captors, take refuge at a local police station which is empty at night. There they find records of several missing people,...

The penultimate episode of AppleTV+’s sci-fi series includes some major revelations. Here’s our Silo season 2 episode 9 review.
What I love most about Silo is its ability to leave me completely in awe as well as confused. Season 2 has been full of surprises, but episode 9 might just be the most shocking of them all, at least so far.
Not that last week’s episode was any less unexpected. It turns out that Solo hasn’t been living in silo 17. A group of three youngsters – and as we learn this week, their two kids – have also been sneaking around. They’re not a very friendly bunch either, with Audrey ( Georgina Sandler) shooting Juliette with an arrow.
My biggest complaint has been that Juliette’s story has felt less interesting this season and last week’s episode certainly helped, but episode 9 finally brings it to the forefront. The first moments of...

After an explosive end to the previous episode, the latest chapter gives us more answers. Here’s our review of Video Nasty episode 4.
Nb: Spoilers lie ahead.
I think most of us can agree that episode 3 of Video Nasty was quite something. Not only did Fangoria Fangirl turn out to be a boy named Topher, but he and his brother, Joe, who turned out to be the driver from episode 2, took Zoe, Billy and Con as hostages at the end of the episode.
Things don’t exactly slow down in episode 4, titled Whatever It Takes, either. The episode begins two months earlier and gives us a little more context. The post office lady who led the trio to the house is in fact the brothers’ mother, Ethel. Ethel is a devout Christian and upon finding one of the video nasties in Topher’s sock drawer, she is horrified.

Things kick up a notch in the third episode of BBC’s comedy horror. Here’s our thoughts on Video Nasty episode 3.
After two episodes of setting up the scene, Video Nasty finally gets into the meat of the story in episode 3, entitled Fangoria Fangirl after Billy’s pen pal. The series has teased its horror elements in its previous episodes and good things come to those who wait as Video Nasty shifts gears.
This time, Billy, Con and Zoe have reached their destination of Ashfield, a small, quaint English village in the Midlands. They’re due to meet Billy’s penpal at the local pub, but something’s a little off as the trio ran into someone in a disturbing witch doctor mask in the woods.
The teens think it was just someone local dressed up for Ashdale’s annual festival, which pays respects for those who lost their...

Our trio gets on their way to England, but trouble awaits them on the mainland. Here’s our Video Nasty episode 2 review.
When I was roughly 16 years of age, my mum caught me watching I Spit On Your Grave in the living room. She walked past the TV where a guy was getting his testicles chopped off and looked at me, cautiously asking, “Are you okay? Do I need to make an appointment with someone?” I just smiled and said no.
This memory played on my mind while watching episode two of BBC’s Video Nasty. Not only do Billy and Con chat about their favourite gory kills in these banned masterpieces with undeniable glee, but a video store owner tells their worried parents, who are shocked at what kind of entertainment their children are into, “They’re not what they watch.”
This is true: I’m now 33 and haven...

The BBC’s new comedy drama Video Nasty is a wonderfully nostalgic ode to an era of banned horror on VHS. Here’s our episode 1 review.
Remember the good old days of strolling into a video store and spending at least an hour picking a film? Or getting your big brother or an older friend to rent one of the classic horror films for you before you were old enough to do it yourself? It’s an era I often look back on and miss. Browsing on Netflix just isn’t the same, but BBC’s new 6-part comedy horror series Video Nasty lets us relive those good old days, with a side of murder mystery.
As you likely already know, several horror films – most of them brilliantly deranged and gory – were banned and/or branded as a video nasty in the 1980s in the UK. Naturally, illegal copies of...
