From the word go, Waack Girls keeps you totally involved. The story line is unique and somewhat daring, a good mix characters, all well fleshed out, the casting great with a slew of new names and great performances. Not to mention the super production values, locations in Calcutta (all very realistic) and great soundtrack. It was a pleasure to watch, as waacking was new to me!
Waack Girls captures well the difficulties youngsters face in today's world - both on the personal/ family front and in making a breakthrough in an offbeat career.
Kudos to the entire team. I really can't wait for season 2!

Wasn't sure what to expect, but after the first 20 min or so I was hooked. Binge watched over 2 days, couldn't stop!
Had never heard of waacking, and the film was a most interesting portrayal of the eco-system surrounding this dance form. Excellent character portrayals of the 6 girls. Not crazy about the music, but great dance moves!
Am a huge fan of Sooni's, but I think she may have outdone herself this time. Waack Girls is beautifully and sensitively done, she shows authentic and real life people and situations that we see around us.
Big congrats to the cast and crew!

A classic Sooni Taraporevala masterpiece, with the characters having beautiful backdrops which unfold over the course of the show. I love parallel story lines and characters who have their lives intertwined (reminiscent of Little Zizou, another of sooni's works).
I remember watching ye ballet on Netflix, another one of sooni's works a couple years ago, which was great fun too. But this one takes the crown!! Kudos to the people who conceptualised it and executed it so beautifully!!
Hoping there's a season 2 coming soon! I finished seaon 1 in a weekend!!!! Hoping for longer episodes this time around
11/10. Must watch.

Waack Girls tells such a great story - and tells it so well. Subtle when it needs to be, big and bold when it needs to be. Enjoyed watching each characters arc unfold - they're all SO well written and acted. It's also one of those shows that feels so completely immersive - it's like you're sitting in the room with the girls, dancing with them, problem solving with them and I think that's due to the brilliant and atmospheric cinematographic. Need season 2 stat! We definitely need more shows like this - ones that tell different stories, feature different faces, and somehow still manage to capture those fundamental, universal emotions in a way that makes the most unrelatable, relatable.

I deeply appreciate this series for its genuine respect for dance as an art form. If you're a fan of compelling drama or captivating dance, and especially if you enjoyed Taraporevala's last film, Yeh Ballet, you'll definitely love this series too.
Mekhola Bose-the lead actress and an accomplished professional Waack dancer-absolutely shines in her role as Ishani, the heroine. Having performed internationally for over a decade, Mekhola previously appeared in "Yeh Ballet" in a supporting role. But in "Waack Girls", she truly takes center stage. Casting a trained dancer like Mekhola, rather than an actor who can dance, gives the character an added layer of authenticity.
Her stage presence is magnetic-she commands the dance floor with both power and grace. Yet, it's her moments of vulnerability and her radiant smile that truly steal the show.

This is indeed a revolutionary series that delivers strong messages in a subtle, delightful manner. It has layers of truths, some that emerge through pathos and also through the tickling, zany moments ! The characters are all so real and developed sensitively. Both Ishani and Lopa are awesome. Dadu is so delightful. The dancers are all magnificent! Loved that it featured the iconic Kolkata races and the authenticity of the city. This world class series empowers as it touchingly addresses diverse societal double standards. The end was a bit ambiguous ... perhaps allowing for a follow up series?
Waack Girls is a vibrant and electrifying show that not only entertains but also uplifts and inspires. At its core, the show is a celebration of empowerment, with its narrative highlighting themes of self-expression, resilience, and the strength of community. Each character brings a unique story to the stage, portrayed with phenomenal acting that draws the audience into their world, making their struggles and triumphs deeply relatable.
What truly sets Waack Girls apart is its showcase of the waacking dance style-a bold, fluid, and expressive form of movement that originated in the underground LGBTQ+ dance scene of the 1970s. The choreography is mesmerizing, blending sharp precision with a sense of freedom and artistry that captivates both dance enthusiasts and newcomers alike. The seamless integration of storytelling and dance gives the show a dynamic energy, making every moment feel alive and impactful.
The cast delivers standout performances, with each member embodying their character's journey with authenticity and passion. Their ability to convey complex emotions through both dialogue and movement is a testament to their incredible talent. From joy to heartbreak, the show takes viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions, leaving them inspired to embrace their own individuality.

A really fun comic drama with strong characters Waack dancing their way through Kolkata. The cinematography is gorgeous, the actresses who play the main roles are quirky charming each in their own way, and they be all have touching back stories. Plus a few scenes I can't get out of my mind - the actor/grandfather's self defense in a senility court hearing, the Waack competition in a warehouse, confrontations with parents' expectations and foibles, and the chaotic messy beautiful city in the background. Can't wait to see where this goes in season two, especially because each character is facing important life decisions.

Loved this show.
The casting is so good.
And of course the Waacking! I didn't even know something like this existed.
Michke does such a great job of being completely comfortable in her body, such a positive role model.
Apart from the performances of the girls, I liked that the main character's boyfriend - though an amazing dancer himself (Yeh Ballet) is so low key here. One hardly knows that he too can dance.
The girls from different backgrounds, with their own sets of problems find common ground in dance... I'm sure the story will encourage other youngsters to follow their own paths, however unorthodox.
Can't wait for the next season!

The Waack Girls are simply amazing! Watching them perform is an absolute treat-they're full of energy, creativity, and pure passion for dance. Their moves aren't just technically perfect; they tell a story that pulls you in and keeps you hooked till the very end.
What really stands out is how beautifully they express emotions through their dance. You can feel the dedication and hard work in every step they take. The way they move together, so perfectly in sync, shows the bond and chemistry they share as a group.
Whether you're into waacking or just love watching great performances, these girls will blow you away. They're inspiring, stylish, and completely unforgettable. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a performance that truly stands out.

A great show to be introduced to the wonderful world of whacking as a dance form and also includes the right amount of fun family and frolic just the way a good all round show should be. Does a great job at introducing whacking without alienating the uninitiated. Each and every actor in the show has given it their all and the talent is mesmerising. A big congratulations to the team and a beautiful job at direction by the awesome Sooni Taraporevala. Love the way the show progresses and the arc it takes and that end :( We absolutely can't wait for the second season to air, make it happen already Prime Video!
Waack Girls is such an Outstanding , Beautifully Created and Executed movie/series (whatever you want to call it)
Love the Theme, the acting, the plot, the set designs and ofcourse the GREAT GREAT GREAT DANCES AND MUSIC
The Energy of the starcast is so palpable.
Not being a movie buff I haven't heard any of the actors but that only goes to show that if there is a good thing going, getting it right is surely expected Each character suits their screen personalities so well. Each acts their parts so well that it's a treat to watch Sure it will get nominated for many awards in many categories All the Best gals, Keep Waacking 😊))

From the opening shot to the final scene, all 9 episodes of *Waack Girls* had me completely hooked. From the bickers to the brawls, resilience, commitments, and the occasional falls
-it hits all the right notes while shedding light on the struggles of being an artist.
The show brings together a seamstress, a gymnast, a math genius, a lesbian, the daughter of a gambling addict, and a happy go-lucky soul, each facing real, relatable challenges.
It's raw, genuine, and so inspiring, reminding us that taking a leap of faith is always worth it and that we should never doubt our own potential.
Every character makes you fall for them in their own way. You'll laugh with them, cry with them, relate to their struggles, and leave feeling inspired by their journeys.
The cinematography is stunning, the cast is spot-on, and the focus on waack culture is such a refreshing and unique pick.
I'm obsessed with everything about this show and can't wait for the next season! I highly recommend checking it out on Amazon Prime you won't regret it!

It's a total blast--original, sexy, fun, and quite moving. The dancing is sensational. The lead actress is absolutely electric. All the performances are terrific and the story is keenly observed. We roared through all nine episodes and hope for more. Loved it! Makes me want to see more of director and creator Taraporevala's work. She directs Waack with great style and sensitivity. Her writing is also exceptionally sharp. Of course Salaam Bombay is a classic. Maybe also check out Mississippi Masala and The Namesake and Yeh Ballet. It is time now to start lobbying Amazon for a much deserved second season. Waack waack waack!

We had a wonderful time watching Waack Girls. There was so much energy, humor and genuine human feeling -- we were completely entertained.
Right from the start, we cared deeply about EVERY character. Even the smaller roles -- like the young girl who takes care of Grandpa -- are so carefully developed that we felt a connection with them.
One reason the characters seem so real: they behave beautifully one minute -- and make big mistakes the next minute. They also have unexplained details in their lives, which kept us wondering. So when those details are revealed in later episodes, it's very powerful.
One other surprise: seeing the many similarities -- and the extreme differences -- between modern life in India and our own world. The way the Waack Girls go in and out of English and Indian languages is fun to hear. Plus, the images of urban India are so vivid and beautiful, it's like taking a voyage away from our own world.
That's one of the reasons why we're eager to watch season 2. We want to go back to life with the Waack Girls!

It's like a fairytale for girls. A story of dreams coming true with or without a prince. A story of girls from regular Indian backgrounds pitching in to make dreams come true. And then ultimately, a story of how friendships form, breathe and can be lost.
There are parents. All as flawed as we know parenthood can be. But some try harder than others and are, in turn, as inspiring as the girls.
There is wealth and poverty and the simple lesson that it's not the lotteries but the loving that counts.
See it for the scope it covers, for the way it makes a story from the well-known scenes of one's ordinary life - and how, even without a genie you can have a happy ending.
The best actor prize though, I'll give to Rumi Taraporevala.

I'm utterly cinematically satiated! This show has left me fascinated with its unapologetic and fearless approach to tackling societal issues. The bold storytelling, coupled with outstanding performances, has resonated deeply with me.
So many moments stood out, but the dance video shoot sequence? Absolutely breathtaking! The raw energy, chaotic choreography, and unbridled passion made it feel so beautifully real. And iconic scenes of the girls dancing on top of cars? That was my Indian La La Land moment. Pure magic!
This masterpiece has not only entertained but also inspired me. The music is infectious, and I found myself Shazamming track after track. The soundtrack perfectly complements the show's themes and tone.
Kudos to the entire cast and crew for creating something which is a testament to the power of storytelling and its ability to spark meaningful conversations and inspire change.

So great and different from all the nonsensical content coming out. What an enjoyable and refreshing watch! Loved it and cannot wait for season 2!
The cinematography, direction and dancing were incredible. The dancers are not just technically skilled but also incredibly expressive, making every routine a powerful statement. The show balances fierce competition with personal storytelling, allowing viewers to connect with the artists beyond their performances. The production quality is top-notch, with vibrant cinematography that truly enhances the visual spectacle of waacking.

"Waack Girls" refers to a specific subculture or group of women who are passionate about "waacking," a style of street dance that originated in the LGBTQ+ communities of Los Angeles in the 1970s. Waacking, characterized by fast arm movements, poses, and dramatic expressions, was heavily influenced by the music and fashion of the time, particularly disco. The term "Waack Girls" typically refers to women who are particularly skilled in this dance form and often perform it with both passion and precision.
### Review of Waack Girls: **Energy and Expression:** Waack Girls often stand out because of their fierce energy, power, and emotional expression when performing. Their performances are typically full of flair, confidence, and individuality. The dance form itself requires not just technical skill, but also the ability to tell a story or convey emotion through movement. Waack Girls embrace this, making every performance a captivating blend of rhythm, attitude, and style.
**Connection to Culture:** The Waack Girls' connection to the broader cultural and historical roots of waacking is important. Waacking was initially about self-expression, empowerment, and freedom, and Waack Girls embody those same principles. They keep the legacy of waacking alive, not only through their dance but also by promoting inclusivity and the celebration of individuality in the dance community.
**Performance Quality:** The quality of performance is often top-notch, with many Waack Girls being trained and deeply invested in the art of waacking. Whether in competitions, showcases, or informal gatherings, their performances are marked by immaculate arm movements, creative poses, and a deep understanding of musicality. The sharpness of their movements paired with their fluidity adds a layer of complexity that makes them standout dancers.
**Fashion and Style:** A key component of waacking is the strong influence of fashion and style. Waack Girls often use clothing and accessories that enhance their performance, and they take cues from both vintage and modern styles. The fierce attitude they project through their dance is also reflected in their fashion, making it as much about visual impact as it is about the dance itself.
**Inclusion and Representation:** Waacking, and by extension Waack Girls, has a strong emphasis on breaking barriers, particularly gender and identity norms. The movement itself celebrates diversity and inclusivity, and Waack Girls are often seen as strong representations of these values in both dance and everyday life. It is not just about how they move, but how they make room for everyone to express themselves in their own unique ways.
### Conclusion: Waack Girls are not just dancers, but icons who embody the power of dance as self-expression and community-building. Their performances are a celebration of music, culture, and individuality. For anyone who enjoys the art of dance, they offer a dynamic and engaging experience that is rich in history and brimming with energy. Whether they're performing in competitions or simply sharing their love for waacking, Waack Girls continue to inspire and energize the dance world with their charisma, skill, and passion.

Waack Girls is an absolute gem. The show bursts with energy, passion, and stunning choreography, but it's the characters that steal the spotlight-especially LP. Played with brilliance, LP is magnetic, fierce, and full of depth. She's the heart of the group, delivering moments of humor, strength, and vulnerability that make her impossible not to love.
The blend of drama and dance is seamless, and the storytelling feels fresh and authentic. LP's journey, in particular, stands out as both relatable and inspiring. If you're looking for something vibrant, emotional, and completely binge-worthy, *Waack Girls* should be at the top of your list. Don't miss it!

I just finished binge-watching this incredible series, and I'm still overwhelmed from the experience. As a huge fan of waacking, I was blown away by the sheer talent, passion, and dedication that went into creating this masterpiece.
The entire cast delivered outstanding performances, but Mekhola Bose stole the show for me. Her dancing skills are already top-notch, but her acting took my breath away. Watching her bring her characters to life was an absolute delight.
The music selection was pure perfection - all those disco classics had me grooving along with the characters. And, of course, the waacking scenes were absolute perfection. The dance community desperately needed a series like this to showcase the beauty, elegance, and energy of waacking.
Huge kudos to the entire cast, crew, and production team for creating something truly special. This series is an absolute must-watch for anyone who loves dance, music, or just great storytelling in general.

1. Waack Girls is truly the personification of hard working and talented individuals coming together for a common purpose! The entire crew was on their A-game and delivered exactly that. I'd watch the credits every single time.
2. Sooni Taraporewala's direction and co-writing is unmatched. The episodes flow so smoothly I didn't even have to stress my eyes or my brain haha.
3. All the actors played their part like its meant for them. The magic is in the details and I'm a fan of all of them. Rytasha gets it. Mekhola's on-screen presence is super impactful. Anasua smashes the dance sections. Chrisann's got range. Priyam's comedic timing is hilarious. Ruby's debut? Didn't look like it! Achintya understood the assignment well. Lopa's father and Tess' mother were PHENOMENAL. No words for Eshani's dadu. Delivery with so much gravitas! My fave? Lopa & LP 💌
4. Dancing was amazing but I want more. We going global this time. Gotta level up! Also, showcase the culture a bit more (I acknowledge this could be hard considering other challenges in the script)
5. I genuinely hope there's Season 2 for this because I need answers. 😂
6. Waack Girls is a collective win for the dance folks all around the world. I'm so proud of our community.

The *Whack Girls* series has gained a reputation as an edgy, humorous, and thought-provoking take on modern friendships, individuality, and societal expectations. Set against a backdrop of unconventional narratives and quirky characters, this series combines a raw exploration of emotions with unapologetic humor, making it a hit among audiences seeking something refreshingly different from mainstream content. Here's a review of what makes the series a standout:
Strong Character Development One of the most striking aspects of *Whack Girls* is its richly developed characters. Each girl in the series is a unique blend of eccentricity and relatability, representing distinct facets of womanhood in today's complex social landscape. Whether it's the unapologetically blunt leader of the group or the introspective artist battling imposter syndrome, the characters feel authentic. Their individual struggles and victories resonate with viewers, creating an emotional connection that keeps the audience invested.
The series doesn't shy away from flaws; it celebrates them. This bold approach to character flaws-showcasing everything from messy relationships to impulsive decisions-makes the characters endearing and real. Over the course of the series, their growth feels organic and deeply satisfying.
Humor with Depth *Whack Girls* masterfully blends humor with poignant storytelling. The series' humor is razor-sharp and often veers into absurdity, yet it never feels forced. Instead, it acts as a lens through which the heavier themes-like mental health, gender inequality, and societal pressure-are explored. The balance between comedy and drama ensures that the show remains entertaining without undermining its emotional weight.
The witty dialogues and comedic timing are standout features. The banter among the girls is filled with clever one-liners, playful sarcasm, and moments of unexpected wisdom, reflecting the natural rhythm of close friendships.
Unconventional Plotlines The narrative structure of *Whack Girls* defies convention, which is a major part of its charm. Rather than sticking to formulaic storytelling, the series dives into unexpected situations that keep viewers on their toes. From chaotic road trips to hilariously disastrous career ventures, the unpredictability of the plot keeps the show dynamic and engaging.
Despite its unconventional story arcs, the series maintains a strong thematic core. It tackles real-life issues like body image, career struggles, and romantic dilemmas with sensitivity and depth, all while maintaining its trademark irreverence.
Representation and Inclusivity Another notable strength of the series is its commitment to representation. The cast is diverse, showcasing a range of ethnicities, sexual orientations, and body types. This inclusivity feels authentic, not tokenistic, and is woven seamlessly into the narrative. By presenting a spectrum of experiences, *Whack Girls* reflects the complexities of modern identity and relationships.
The series also excels in portraying female friendships in all their messy, beautiful glory. It avoids the clichéd tropes of rivalry and cattiness, instead focusing on the bonds of support, love, and occasional exasperation that define real-life friendships.
Visual and Aesthetic Appeal Visually, *Whack Girls* is a treat. The show makes creative use of bold colors, quirky costume designs, and innovative cinematography to mirror its offbeat tone. Each setting feels like an extension of the characters' personalities, adding another layer of depth to the storytelling. The soundtrack is another highlight, featuring an eclectic mix of songs that perfectly complement the series' mood and themes.
*Whack Girls* is more than just a comedy; it's a celebration of individuality, friendship, and the beauty of imperfection. With its strong character development, sharp humor, and thoughtful storytelling, it offers a refreshing alternative to cookie-cutter series. The show resonates because it feels real-messy, unpredictable, and full of heart. Whether you're looking for a laugh or a meaningful exploration of modern life, *Whack Girls* delivers both in spades.
For anyone seeking a show that's as funny as it is heartfelt, *Whack Girls* is a must-watch. Its unique blend of humor, depth, and relatability makes it a standout series that lingers long after the credits roll.
