This film was originally titled SPL 2: Rise Of Wong Po, and was intended to be a direct prequel to SPL with the plot focussing on how Wong Po came into power. Sammo Hung, Donnie Yen, Wu Jing and Simon Yam were all slated to return before the idea was scrapped.
The film is not a prequel. It appears to be a sequel with new characters and storyline. Wu Jing and Simon Yam returns as new characters different from the first film.
In Spain was only released in 1 theater (Barcelona: Phenomena). The film was projected 1 day and only in subtitled version. Later, was edited on Blu-ray/DVD.
Early in production, Dion Lam was brought on as an action choreographer before being replaced by Nicky Li Chung-Chi.
