On her sixth studio album, Deeper Well, Kacey Musgraves digs into both her psyche and the sounds of folk music, making for an affecting and mellow set of songs. The album kicks off with the crystalline, fingerpicked intro of “Cardinal,” an almost startling introduction given the pop-heavy sound of Musgraves’s last album, Star-Crossed, before giving way to a more contemporary acoustic-guitar passage as the singer muses about lost loved ones. It’s an intimate and effective tone-setter for the rest of the album, as many of the songs here revolve around memory and loss.
The title track establishes the thesis of Deeper Well: “I’m saying goodbye to the people/That I feel are real good at wasting my time/No regrets, baby, I just think that maybe/You go your way and I’ll go mine.” The gentle guitars and unobtrusive drumming create a soundscape that echoes the...

Pink Floyd boasts a discography that evokes dynamic emotions and moods, all conveyed within the expansive, experimental mold of progressive rock that feels timeless. Countless franchises, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe, have used tracks from the band's impressive work in their films. For instance, "Interstellar Overdrive" was featured in "Doctor Strange" to convey the nature of Stephen Strange's life before it turned upside-down, while "Time" was used in "Eternals" to set the tone of its worldbuilding. Since both seasons of "Loki" also feature retro-tinted soundscapes that harken to branched timelines and similar cosmic events, it is not a stretch to assume that the show's music was inspired by Pink Floyd.
There is good reason for this assumption, as the show's "Tva Theme," which plays at the end of every episode, sounds remarkably similar to Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar." There is a haunting effect in how the guitar and bass ramp up the mystery,...

Hayao Miyazaki's "The Boy and the Heron" has won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Like when his film "Spirited Away" took home the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2003, Miyazaki himself wasn't there to accept the award in person tonight.
This was a bit of an upset: "The Boy and the Heron" is rightfully acclaimed, but it had a worthy challenger in "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse," which won Best Animated Feature at the 51st Annie Awards this February (the Annies are focused exclusively on animation). Christopher Miller, one of the writers and producers of "Across the Spider-Verse," took his Oscars defeat in good humor, posting on X/Twitter: "Well, if you're gonna lose, might as well lose to the Goat [greatest of all time]."
We here at /Film are big fans of "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse" (read our review from back in May 2023). But that said, the Academy made the right...

Bugs, Niobe, and Morpheus are all prime candidates for spinoff films in order to revitalize the struggling Matrix franchise. Tank, Seraph, and The Architect also have potential for standalone movies to delve into their untold stories within the Matrix universe. Trinity emerges as the most obvious choice to lead the Matrix franchise forward after her character's powerful development.
The Matrix franchise has been in a bit of trouble for the past few years, but these 10 The Matrix characters could totally carry their own spinoffs and save the franchise in the process. Kenau Reeves' Neo has been the lead of all four live-action The Matrix movies so far, and while he is a fantastic protagonist for the original story, there simply isn't much to do with him any more. Because of this, The Matrix has to pull from its massive gallery of side characters for whatever comes next, and these 10 would make perfect candidates.

David Fincher’s “The Killer” is taking his shot.
The latest from the filmmaker behind macabre masterpieces like “Seven,” “Zodiac” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” follows an unnamed assassin (Michael Fassbender) after a hit goes wrong. If you screw up at work, maybe you send an apologetic email or try and pretend like it never happened. If you’re the titular killer, you set out on a roaring rampage of revenge, crisscrossing the globe as you attempt to (bloodily) tie up loose ends.
But that’s not to say that you can’t enjoy what you do. And one of the things that makes Fassbender’s murderer stand out is that he makes mix tapes for his assassinations, with a particular fondness for The Smiths, who become the sort of Simon and Garfunkel for the world of “The Killer.”
“I always knew that I wanted to use ‘How Soon is Now?...

Eili Harboe is burning up social media lately. The talented actor turned heads this spring as the brooding Ebba on the final season of Succession, and she’s bound to keep the intrigue going playing Julie, a beleaguered intern in the upcoming dystopian dark comedy, The Architect, which begins streaming on Viaplay June 1. More on that later.
Let’s chat Ebba, who has given audiences plenty to ponder as Succession heads toward its climactic series finale. Ebba may be a game changer as the Roy kids — Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv (Sarah Snook) — vie for control after the poor health of Daddy Logan (Brian Cox). As GoJo's head of communications, Ebba knows everything about shady Lukas Matsson, played by Alexander Skarsgård, who lays on the slick extra thick here. Ebba is also Lukas’ ex-girlfriend, and she’s already spilled some dirt about her ballsy employee as the shaky Waystar-GoJo acquisition keeps tottering.

Following her stint in Berlinale Series’ competition with “The Architect,” a Norwegian Viaplay limited series set in the near future, Kerren Lumer-Klabbers will focus on a feature film next, which has the working title of “School of Women.”
The project, produced by Søs Thøstesen, will be inspired by her own life, admits the filmmaker. Or rather, the lives of her two mothers.
“They met thanks to the Women’s Liberation Movement in Denmark. One of my mothers grew up in a conservative family, where a woman was supposed to be seen, not heard. The word ‘lesbian’ wasn’t even a part of the vocabulary. She spent her whole life trying to liberate herself from that upbringing,” she said.
Lumer-Klabbers has been busy interviewing women who were a part of the Movement. Including her mothers.
“I told them they can’t say anything wrong and that it’s not about ‘entertaining’ me.

For most people with the Intj (The Architect) personality, movies are either good or bad, they either like it or they don't. The common denominator for this is how intellectually or artistically stimulating the movie can be and it just so happens that action movies don't exactly require much thinking.

Even so, some action movies have broken that mold and stand out as creative masterpieces of violence-- something that will please even the most judgmental or nitpicky of INTJs. Seeing as how picky we are with the stuff we watch, here are five action movies that INTJs will love and five we shouldn't waste our time with.

Featuring a captivating performance from Nina Hoss, Ina Weisse’s sophomore feature follows a woman trapped in the pursuit of success and abandoning her family. A famous actress with an extended career in German television, Ina Weisse made her first foray into screenwriting and directing with the award-winning feature drama The Architect in 2008. The Audition is Weisse’s sophomore film and had its world premiere in the Discovery section at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival. Anna Bronsky (Nina Hoss) is a violin teacher in a high school for musicians in Berlin. She’s married to French violin maker Philippe (Simon Abkarian) and together they have a 10-year-old son, Jonas (Serafin Mishiev), who also attends the same school. Her relationship with her husband seems to be crumbling, and Anna is looking for new challenges in her rather dull family and professional life. Romantic comedies are universal in appeal, but they've historically been limiting in terms of casting. Over the years, white actresses like Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts have dominated female protagonist roles in the genre. The road to progress has been slow, but after an unnecessarily long delay, there's finally an Asian-American leading lady in a major rom-com. In Crazy Rich Asians, Taiwanese-American actress (and queen of lobs) Constance Wu stars as Rachel Chu, a middle-class economics professor who falls for a member of Singapore's elite.
Wu has had a few parts in films and TV series, but her biggest role yet is on ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, in which she plays the stern, often inadvertently hilarious Jessica Huang. Besides Jessica, Rachel is a very important part for Wu since it marks her first leading role in a major studio film. In a recent emotional tweet,...

Epix’s drama Pennyworth has found its villainess at the top of the British pop charts: Platinum-selling singer Paloma Faith has joined the cast in the role of Bet Sykes, a cruel adversary who will test the courage of young Alfred Pennyworth and his new boss, Thomas Wayne, the future father of Bruce Wayne.
Faith’s character is described as a “spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain,” according to Warner Horizon Scripted Television. The characters are based on the adventures dating back to the Fdr years and published in the pages of Batman, Detective Comics and other DC Comics titles.
Faith has acted before — her onscreen credits include Peter & Wendy and Doctor Parnassus — but is best known as a UK music star with a strong track record at home but little traction in the American market.
The singer’s fourth full-length album, The Architect, was released last November and hit No.

Stars: Y’lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Marisa Tomei, Patch Darragh, Luna Lauren Velez, Kristen Solis, Rotimi Paul | Written by James DeMonaco | Directed by Gerard McMurray
With The Purge franchise, creator James DeMonaco has done the near impossible: develop and expand an implausible, high-concept idea into an engaging socio-political saga. Better still, he’s managed it without too much repetition. 2013’s The Purge was a simple home invasion horror; 2014’s Anarchy was a survival action movie with zombie movie tropes; and 2016’s Election Year was a broad allegory for the toxic state of American democracy in the run-up to the real-world presidential showdown. Now we are in the era of Trump, and DeMonaco – writer only this time, leaving directing duties to Burning Sands’ Gerard McMurray – has gone back to the creation of the Purge itself.

‘The First Purge’: Director Gerard McMurray Crafted a Horror Film About Being a Black Man in America
As “The Purge” franchise has grown over five years and four films, the series has moved from its roots as a high-concept home invasion thriller that focused on a well-off white family attempting to get through the night when their high-tech security system fails to safeguard against mad marauders during the worst night of the year. Subsequent sequels moved the action outward, and introduced more-diverse characters with timely stories. Sequels “Anarchy” and “Election Year” expanded the Purge mythology, including its roots as a government plot to eradicate poor people.
That concept drives Gerard McMurray’s prequel “The First Purge,” which dramatizes the eponymous first “experiment” in chilling fashion: A new political party (The New Founding Fathers) created the Purge as a way for an uneasy Americans to release their worst impulses, an idea they test in a 12-hour period on Staten Island. Residents receive $5,000 if they stay on the island...

For 11 years now Tampa has hosted the Gasparilla International Film Festival. Located in the historic Ybor neighbourhood, the fest provides a great mix of local fare, world class features and docs as well as its fair share of cinephilic events. There are a few exciting films making their debut, including All Nighter with J.K. Simmons that looks to be a lot of fun, as well as titles like Burn Your Maps and others that have had festival success elsewhere. I'm personally looking forward to catching Score, the doc on film soundtracks, and the Parker Posey vehicle The Architect. The Florida showcase often finds some hidden gems, and the fest generally provides a great deal of comraderie and fun for local audiences. Look out for...
