Could there be trouble in paradise for the Talbots? Matthew Goode has confirmed that he won’t be reprising his role of Mary’s husband Henry Talbot in the third and final Downton Abbey movie, hitting theaters on Sept. 12, after previously missing the second installment.

“I was unavailable for the second because I was doing The Offer,” Goode recently told The UK’s Radio Times. “[For the third], I was shooting [Netflix’s Department Q]. But I also buggered my knee, and I had to have an operation. That takes weeks to get over, so I was never going to be able to do it.

Matthew Goode has officially confirmed he’s not returning for the third Downton Abbey movie, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, after skipping the second film in the franchise as well. The movie hits theaters in September.

The 47-year-old The Offer actor is now explaining his absence.

If you don’t know, he portrayed Henry Talbot for several episodes on the TV show before starring in the first film in the franchise. If you don’t watch, Henry meets and eventually marries Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery).

With his brand-new Netflix crime series, Department Q, on the horizon, Watchmen and Downton Abbey star Matthew Goode is on the minds of many. Especially those hoping for a comeback for Henry Talbot in the upcoming final installment of the Downton Abbey film trilogy, The Grand Finale, scheduled to premiere on September 12. With many of the show's most memorable names returning for a last look into the lives of the Crawleys et al., including the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Jim Carter, and even a returning Paul Giamatti, who is reprising his role as Harold Levinson. In an interview with Radio Times, Goode delivered the perhaps expected but nevertheless sad news that Talbot will not be returning for the final installment in Julian Fellowes' beloved period franchise, which will come as little surprise as he wasn't in the second film either.

Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia will hit theaters a little earlier than expected, as Focus Features has announced a new release date for the film. The film, which was previously slated for a November 7th release, will now premiere for a special limited engagement on October 24th before opening wide on October 31st.

Bugonia stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. Lanthimos directed the film from a screenplay by Will Tracy. It follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Planet Earth. The film is produced by Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe; Yorgos Lanthimos via Pith; Emma Stone via Fruit Tree; Square Peg’s Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen; and Cj Enm’s Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.

Focus Features will open Yorgos Lanthimos latest movie, Bugonia, on Oct. 24 in a limited engagement ahead of its wide break on Oct. 31.

We told you last year that Focus Features took global rights off the table on Lanthimos’ latest, a remake of the South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet. Bugonia sees two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Planet Earth.

Bugonia stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. Lanthimos directs from a screenplay by Will Tracy whose recent credits include The Menu and Succession. Lanthimos is an internationally renowned, five-time Academy Award-nominated director, producer, and screenwriter known for such visionary films as Poor Things, The Favourite, and The Lobster.

The weeklong cinematic event will feature screenings of the film, which was shot in VistaVision, at select locations in New York and Los Angeles.

The new Downton Abbey movie, titled Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, is the third movie in the franchise, and we have all the info you’re going to want to see!

After six seasons and three films, it is time for “Downton Abbey” to finally say goodbye.

As part of its presentation at CinemaCon, Focus Features debuted the first trailer for “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,” for theater owners on Wednesday. It is a film that not only says goodbye to the series’ longtime fans, but also to the late Maggie Smith, whose bitingly witty Dowager Countess passed away onscreen in “Downton Abbey: A New Era” in 2022 and who herself died last year at the age of 89.

In the trailer, we see Lord Grantham and the rest of the Crawleys enjoying the races at the Royal Ascot in 1930. There are plenty of grand shots of Britain as the family enters a new decade, and Lady Mary is rising as the new head of the family and becoming one of the most prominent members of high society.

Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey) will reprise her role as movie star Ava Gardner in the play Ava: The Secret Conversations at New York City Center this summer. The play, written by McGovern, premiered in 2023 at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles.

The New York production, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel and produced by Karl Sydow, begins performances July 30, with an official opening on August 7. Ava, which will also feature Aaron Costa Ganis as writer Peter Evans, will play a strictly limited engagement through September 13.

Exclusive: Julian Fellowes is going from crimes of high society to real crimes. The Downton Abbey and The Gilded Age creator is set to write and executive produce a TV adaptation of Swiss-American author Donna Leon’s contemporary Detective Brunetti book series, which is in development at 20th Television.

The project was originated and set up at the studio by Fellowes’ longtime friend and mentor, producer Ileen Maisel who died in February at the age of 68. She had been in the 20th Television fold since 2018 when she signed a first-look deal with its former division Fox21.

The multi-year partnership will see King Bee developing and producing globally-targeted scripted content for Sony’s international production group and U.S. studio.
