Perhaps sensing the film’s award credentials, Focus Features has uprooted Juan Antonino Bayona’s A Monster Calls from its original October release date and thrust the fantasy flick directly into Oscar territory.

Now on course to debut via select theaters on December 23 before expanding nationwide on January 6, the studio’s switcheroo can also be seen as a means of safeguarding Bayona’s hotly-anticipated adaptation from the competition. It's been three long years since director Rob Zombie's last movie, The Lords of Salem, but for those awaiting this horror filmmaker's return, you won't have to wait much longer. The musician brings his unique vision back to the big screen with his new horror-thriller 31, debuting on VOD platforms September 16 before hitting theaters on October 21. This fall, one of the most unique movies will be, without a doubt, A Monster Calls. The family drama will introduce legendary actor Liam Neeson as a mythical creature who befriends a young boy. Today, we have your first look at the official one-sheet poster, which gives us a sneak peek at this monster in hiding. The tagline promises that 'Stores are Wild Creatures'.

A Monster Calls is a visually spectacular drama from director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible). 12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall), dealing with his mother's (Felicity Jones) illness, a less-than-sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), and bullying classmates, finds a most unlikely ally when a Monster appears at his bedroom window. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth. Toby Kebbell plays Conor's father, and Liam Neeson stars in performance-capture and voiceover as the nocturnally visiting Monster of the title.

A Monsters Call comes as an interesting change of pace for Neeson, who has become an action icon in the later half of his extraordinary career. The movie is an adaptation of Patrick Ness' beloved novel, with the writer adapting his own screenplay. As of yet, we haven't really gotten a great look at the monstrosity hiding at the core of this heart-tugging fantasy. But he is starting to come into focus here on this teaser.

The movie's story is actually based on an original idea by the late Siobhan Dowd. A British writer and activist, she is best known for a body of work that appeals to children and young adults. A Monster Calls has been published in almost 30 languages, and the novel has won many prestigious prizes worldwide, including the distinguished Carnegie Medal and, for illustrator Jim Kay, the Kate Greenaway Medal.

Bel&#233n Atienza is producing, marking her third collaboaration with Bayona, following The Impossible and his directorial debut, The Orphanage. Executive producers include Participant's Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King, along with River Road's Bill Pohlad and Mitch Horwits. Production on A Monster Calls got under way last September, with principal photography taking place in Spain and England.

Last week, Saban Films debuted a new poster for director Rob Zombie's upcoming horror-thriller 31, which will hit theaters just before Halloween. Today, the studio has unveiled the first full trailer for this highly-anticipated movie, which comes nearly two years after the first trailer was released. Now that the project has distribution and a release date in place, we can surely expect to see much more from 31 in the months ahead.

From the visionary mind of the man who brought us House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects and Halloween comes the horrific story of five carnival workers who are kidnapped the night before Halloween and held hostage in a large compound. At the mercy of their captors, they are forced to play a twisted game or life or death called 31. For the next 12 hours they must fight for their lives against an endless parade of homicidal maniacs.

31 stars Rob Zombie's wife Sheri Moon Zombie, along with Richard Brake, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, Jeffrey Daniel Phillips, Lew Temple, Meg Foster and Malcolm McDowell. 31 was originally slapped with an Nc-17 rating by the MPAA back in December 2015, and even after Rob Zombie submitted a re-edited cut, the MPAA still gave the film an Nc-17 rating. After another round of edits, the MPAA finally gave the movie an R rating this past January, for "strong bloody horror violence, pervasive language, sexual content and drug use." It's possible that Rob Zombie will release a gore drenched director's cut sometime in the future. Until then, check out the new trailer for Rob Zombie's 31.

Gal Gadot has responded to critics who say that she is "too skinny" to play Wonder Woman.

The actress will feature as the superhero in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but has received a backlash from some over her apparent suitability for the role.

Speaking to Robot Underdog, Gadot explained: "They said that I was too skinny and my boobs were too small... They said my head was too big and my body was like a broomstick."

Despite receiving censure from some fans, Gadot revealed that she is not disheartened or put off as a result.

"I can take anything. It's just empty talk," the actress added. "I can understand that part of what I'm doing means being exposed. And part of being exposed is being under fire."

Warner Bros. Pictures has shifted around their Summer 2016 schedule with the Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling-led "The Nice Guys" being moved up a month to a May 20th 2016 release. As a result, the Kevin Hart and The Rock-led comedy "Central Intelligence" has been locked into the old June 17th 2016 slot that 'Nice Guys' previously occupied.

Next up, Paramount Pictures has done some shifting of their own. Three weeks ahead of an April 10th wide release, the period drama "The Moon and the Sun" has been pulled from release and no new date has been set. Pierce Brosnan plays Louis Xiv in the film which deals with a captured mermaid.

Paramount has also locked in an April 29th 2016 release for "Same Kind of Different As Me" about a relationship formed...

Hugh Jackman's skiing movie, Eddie the Eagle will be released on April 29, 2016 in the Us.

Dexter Fletcher is taking the helm for the film which follows Michael Edwards, the most famous ski jumper in British history.

Taron Egerton plays Eddie, while Wolverine star, Jackman plays a ski jumping expert who helps Eddie train for the Olympics.

Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn is acting as producer for the movie.

Both films will be released through 20th Century Fox.

20th Century Fox has picked up the Hugh Jackman-Taron Egerton skiing movie “Eddie the Eagle” and announced it will release the film on April 29, 2016. The inspirational sports movie has that weekend to itself for the moment. Egerton’s “Kingsman: The Secret Service” director Matthew Vaughn is producing the movie, which is being directed by Dexter Fletcher. The studio has also announced it will release the Zach Galifianakis-Jon Hamm comedy “Keeping Up With the Joneses” on April Fool’s Day, aka April 1, 2016. The only other film slated to open that day is Will Gluck’s Screen Gems comedy “Catfight.

A new collection of Doctor Who short stories features a "hidden" Twelfth Doctor tale.

Doctor Who: Time Trips Collection from BBC Books features several stories previously published as eBooks last year, alongside the new story cleverly hidden in its dust jacket.

"At turns frightening and funny, poignant and gripping, the Time Trips stories journey from Ancient Alexandria and 16th Century England to mysterious planets in the distant future, and feature Doctors from across the history of the programme," said the publishers.

The book is available from March 5 in hardback and is priced at £20.

Yesterday, it was announced that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Gal Gadot has taken on a key role in the new comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses. With that news came the announcement that her standalone Wonder Woman movie will begin shooting this coming fall. There is no further information about the project, or an exact start date. Well, evidently that's changed, as the site reports that cameras are set to roll on the movie this Fall with a June 2017 release date in mind. A glittering array of talent turned out this evening for the 17th Moët British Independent Film Awards. The winners were announced at the star-studded ceremony, held at Old Billingsgate, which was hosted by The Inbetweeners star, Simon Bird.

The lucky winners took home the iconic award designed by Fredrikson Stallard and created by Swarovski as well as a personalised, Swarovski crystal encrusted magnum of Moët & Chandon.

Best British Independent Film was won by Pride. Yann Demange won Best Director for ’71, Gugu Mbatha-Raw won Best Actress for Belle and Brendan Gleeson won Best Actor for Calvary. Andrew Scott collected his award for Best Supporting Actor for Pride and Imelda Staunton took home her award for Best Supporting Actress also for her role in Pride.

Jack O'Connell is breaking out something fierce this year. He's of course starring in Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" and on the indie scene in "Starred Up," for which he was nominated last year at the British Independent Film Awards. Well, he's back for more of this this time around with "'71," Yann Demange's brilliant Belfast thriller, which scored the lion's share of nominations today with nine. Matthew Warchus' ensemble dramedy "Pride," about gay activists working to help miners during the 1984 UK mineworkers strike, was a few steps behind with seven mentions. Mike Leigh's "Mr. Turner" rounded up five nods, while "Calvary" and "The Imitation Game" picked up four apiece. The nominations for the 17th annual Moët British Independent Film Awards were announced recently, at St Martins Lane, London by actor Jared Harris .

Joint Directors, The Moët British Independent Film Awards’ Johanna von Fischer & Tessa Collinson said: "This has been a record year for Mbifa with over 250 films submitted giving our dedicated members their toughest challenge to date. Hugely impressed by the quality of films and performances across all categories the shortlist demonstrates how the standard of creativity in British independent filmmaking continues to flourish year on year. The decision of who will walk away with one of the iconic Mbifa trophies* is now in the hands of our distinguished independent jury announced today. The highest number of nominations this year goes to "‘71" with nine nominations including Best British Independent Film; Best Director and Debut Director for Yann Demange; Best Screenplay for Gregory Burke; Best Actor for Jack O’Connell and Best Supporting Actor for Sean Harris. "Pride" picked up seven nominations and "Catch me Daddy,""Frank," and "Mr Turner" picked up five nominations each.

The Raindance Award nominees for 2014 include: "Flim: The Movie;" "Gregor;" "Luna;" "Keeping Rosy"and "The Beat Beneath My Feet." This award honours exceptional achievement for filmmakers working against the odds, often with little or no industry support. Elliot Grove, Founder of Raindance Film Festival and Moët British Independent Film Awards added: "The breadth and quality of the British films selected this year suggests a bumper year for British films. The Pre-Selection Committee of over 70 members viewed a record breaking 250 plus films this year, out of which they selected the nominations, which were decided by ballot.

The winners of The Moët British Independent Film Awards are decided by an independent jury comprised of leading professionals and talent from the British film industry.

It was also announced that the Oscar® and BAFTA - winning Director Tom Hopper, whose film "The King’s Speech" picked up five awards, including Best British Independent Film at the 2010 Moët British Independent Film Awards, will chair the Jury who will decide the winners of the 2014 awards.

Hooper commented: "I am honoured to preside over the Moët Bifa jury this year. It has been an extremely strong year for filmmaking here in Britain and I am looking forward to helping the very best of this year's independent films, get the recognition they deserve."

The last time I attended Aesthetica, I was a volunteer and didn’t get to see all that many films. The only complete screening I managed to view was at the venue I was manning; unfortunately, that screening was full of pretentious and acutely inaccessible experimental films, so I didn’t have all that great a time with them. Thankfully I managed to catch a handful of others and enjoyed the atmosphere of having a pop-up film festival in (my then adopted city) York so much that it washed the wankery right out of my mouth. Anyway, I’m back – and purely as an audience member this time. My first day at Asff was a great taster of many different kinds of films, though of course with an event of this size (showing over 300 films over three and a half days) I was always going...

Nicole Kidman is in negotiations to replace Gwyneth Paltrow in Billy Ray's English-language remake of the Argentinian thriller "The Secret in Their Eyes". Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor also star.

Rebecca Hall ("Iron Man 3," "Transcendence") is set to star in Joel Edgerton's untitled suspense thriller directorial debut for Blumhouse and Blue-Tongue Films.

The edge-of-your seat thriller that was all the talk at this year’s Berlin Film Festival (that momentum was carried over into Telluride and Tiff during the fall) leads all noms for the 17th edition of the 2014 British Independent Film Awards. Landing nine nominations in all, Yann Demange’s ’71 might lead the pack, but I’d argue that despite all the fanfare, remains an underdog in most categories. Going up against The Imitation Game (which failed to score ‎Morten Tyldum a Best Director nod but managed to get Best Screenplay and Best Film consideration) and Mike Leigh’s Mr Turner, there might be plenty of gift-giving for several films on December 7th, with Matthew Warchus’ Pride also in the mix with a whopping seven noms (mostly in the acting categories). The British Independent Film Awards announced its nominees this Monday morning and it was good news for films that may not have the muscle to break into the Academy Awards contest. The Irish political thriller “’71” and “Pride,” the story of gay activism and mineworker strikes that fits snuggly the time-honored British sociopolitical dramedy genre, earned the most nominations. In honors that will likely replicate themselves stateside, “Imitation Game” also earned a Best British Independent Film nod, with stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley finding love in the Best Actor and Actress categories, respectively. Other Best British Independent Film nominees include Mike Leigh’s “Mr. Turner” and John Michael McDonagh’s “Calvary.” Picking up multiple nominations were Lenny Abrahamson’s “Frank,” documentarian Morgan Matthews’ narrative debut “X+Y,” and the Nick Cave documentary “20,000 Days on Earth.” There’s little conformity to the British Independent Film Awards. Compared to previous years, the 2014 nominations are downright populist.

Isla Fisher has been cast in Fox 2000 spy comedy Keeping Up with the Joneses.

The actress will join Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis in Adventureland director Greg Mottola's movie, reports The Wrap.

The film will centre around a suburban couple (Fisher and Galifianakis) who discover that their new 'perfect' neighbours are spies.

Hamm will play one half of the spy couple.

Fisher was most recently seen in The Great Gatsby and Now You See Me.

She is currently filming Grimsby opposite her husband Sacha Baron Cohen.

First features A Patch of Fog and Beast to receive support from the BFI Film Fund.

The BFI Film Fund is to fund two first-time filmmakers - Michael Lennox with A Patch of Fog and Michael Pearce with Beast, through its First Feature Awards.

The Film Fund considers features from first-time directors, working with budgets under £2m ($3.3m), at quarterly intervals

Lennox is a Belfast-born filmmaker who studied directing at the National Film and Television School (Nfts). His short The Back of Beyond was nominated for best short film at the European Film Awards and won awards at Locarno and the Royal Society of Television Awards.

His latest short Boogaloo & Graham was selected to screen at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

Celebrating the top films from the past year, the 2014 Ee British Academy Film Awards took place in London, England tonight (February 16).

Snagging wins in the Best Supporting Actor/Actress categories were Barkhad Abdi ("Captain Phillips") and Jennifer Lawrence ("American Hustle"), respectively.

Meanwhile, Cate Blanchett and Chiwetel Ejiofor took home trophies for Best Actress and Best Actor. In addition, "We're the Millers" star Will Poulter was recognized in the Ee Rising star category.

The Best British Film went home to the cast and crew of "Gravity," while "12 Years a Slave" scored the prize for Best Film.

12 Years a Slave, Gravity, American Hustle, Captain Phillips and Philomena have the majority of nominations and are all competing for Best Picture. It is an undeniably strong year for British Film and we’re grateful for a spotlight as wide and as bright as this one to be shone this evening.

We’re at the end of another BAFTA...

British live action and animated shorts to screen in cinemas from 28 February.

BAFTA has revealed that a feature-length package of films nominated in the British Short Film and British Short Animation categories at this year’s Ee British Academy Film Awards will screen in UK cinemas from Feb 28 and will tour internationally.

Selected screenings will be followed by a Q&A with nominated filmmakers who will discuss their working process and creative inspirations. The activity is part of BAFTA’s ongoing work to spotlight British-based filmmaking talent.

Following the first-ever theatrical release of nominated shorts in 2013, BAFTA is partnering for a second year with specialist distributor the Independent Cinema Office (Ico), which will handle all UK theatrical bookings, and the British Council, which will tour the nominated films internationally through their network of offices in 110 countries.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the nominations for the British Academy Film Awards and Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" led the pack with 11 nominations including Best Film, British Film (who knew "Gravity" was a British movie?), Director for Cuaron, Screenplay for Cuaron and his son Jonas, and Actress for Sandra Bullock.

The biggest snub in my humble opinion was "Dallas Buyers Club" which appeared nowhere on the nominations list. Apparently, the British Academy did not deem Matthew McConaughey or Jared Leto award-worthy!

The BAFTA Awards will take place on Feb. 16 at the Royal Opera house in London. Will "Gravity" emerge as the victorious movie that night? And by the way, "Gravity" was my No. 1 favorite film of 2013!

Early this morning saw the announcement of the nominations for the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards for 2013. For the most part, they look like all of the other guild nominations we’ve seen over the past month or so (including all five director nominees who were just nominated for the DGA’s top award), but there are a few interesting differences to take note of.

First off, Philomena has a much stronger presence here, but given that it is a British film, it’s hardly surprising. You may also notice a lot of love for Behind the Candelabra, a film that was only shown on TV in the States, making it ineligible for theatrical awards.

The nominations for this year’s Ee British Academy Film Awards were announced today (January 8) by actors Helen McCrory and Luke Evans.

Gravity led the way with 11 nominations. 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle were each nominated in ten categories. Captain Phillips has nine nominations, while Behind the Candelabra and Saving Mr. Banks were nominated five times.

As usual, British Academy of Film and Television Arts have placed their focus on Big English-Language Productions — i.e., Hollywood and Anglo-Hollywood fare. (I mean, Gravity, Rush, and Saving Mr. Banks are considered "British" productions here.) Small British films and non-Hollywood productions have been — once again as usual — all but ignored. The 2014 BAFTA winners will be announced on February 16.
