After being moved and shocked, it took me 1 full day to bring me back to senses to write this review. This will be long so bear with me. Kannada cinema has a gem in 2025 and that is Nimitta Matra.
A cinema deserving of a theatrical experience but had to watch it on a small screen on SunNXT but nevertheless, the experience was still there.
It's a profound cinematic experience when a film invites you to pause, reflect, and see things from a different lens. At a time when most movies chase commercial nonsense storytelling and formulaic drama, Nimitta Matra stands apart with its a unique story that takes us to origins of terrorism with a take that is unexpected.
The film immediately from minute one, immerses you in its world, encouraging you to ask important questions, keeping you guessing and at a pace which will overwhelm you sometimes.
What makes this film so powerful is its story. The storytelling is powerful and yet subtle, with every scene crafted thoughtfully. The director even for a debut has an incredible command over the screenplay, letting the emotions unfold organically, without forcing them on the viewer. It feels like you're watching a movie done by an experienced captain with 10 films in the bag but no. This is a debut. Now ponder over that fact after you're done watching this film.
The performances are deeply rooted in realism. Poornachandra and Sangeetha bring vulnerability and emotional complexity to the role, embodying both caught between doing and letting go. Aravind brings the raw brash police office effortlessly. There's no unnecessary theatrics-just honest, human storytelling. Supporting actors, too, bring authenticity and richness to the narrative, creating a world that feels lived-in and deeply relatable.
Technically, the colour palette chosen for the film brings the story to life with crisp editing which keeps the viewer on the edge of their seats. The debut director takes the credit again for the edit. The cinematography captures is smooth yet raw and does enough to elevate the film. Scenes linger long enough for you to truly absorb them. The background score is powerful yet moving, subtly guiding your emotional journey without ever overwhelming it.
This is a rare film that respects your intelligence, challenges your thinking, and offers something far more lasting than surface-level entertainment. It's for those who appreciate cinema that touches the soul and asks timeless questions about what and who is around you.
In a world full of commercial rubbish, Nimitta Matra is a voice reminding us yet again that content is king. It's a film that stays with you, long after the screen fades to black.

Nimitta Matra is an amazing film. But I feel this film got lost because it was hit by a wave of films releasing the same day and the hype of another hindi film.
I am sure the makers are wondering what they did wrong but I am here to tell you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Nimitta Matra. Infact I would go as far as telling you guys to re release the film so that the film gets the proper time and screens to showcase this brilliant thriller.
Perfect screenplay, crisp editing and amazing visuals. What else do you need in a thriller? A high potential film lost in the crowd is what I would say.

CLIMAX CLIMAX CLIMAX!!!
Why I am stressing on the climax is because for that you need to watch the film.
You can not miss any single frame in the film right from the beginning of the film. The first opening says so much which we will get to know after watching the climax. There is so much information in the film that I did not know.
Director and writer says it is fictional but just imagine these things are actually happening in real life. We don't know who to trust.
Exceptional writing and execution. Acting of all actors are good. In the climax there is a huge surprise. But the actress Sangeetha rocks the acting scene.
Roshan D'Souza is an amazing new find to the Kannada film industry. I want more conspiracy theories from him in the future.
Songs are very catchy especially the lagun lagun song.
Overall a super watch.

A small budget movie on a subject like parapsychology, from a debutant independent filmmaker/writer, with a debutant actress taking center stage along with seasoned theater pros holding the whole movie together. What could go wrong? And could a lot go right?
Seems like a whole lot has gone right with this one! The story is gripping, fast paced and has a hold of your attention throughout, while at the back of your head you are wondering what the climax is going to be like. And wow! Doesn't the climax deliver!
I have very little to criticize in this one because the movie gets all the basics of it's genre spot on! It's got great pace for a suspense/thriller movie, good background score, beautiful cinematography, great editing, acting and then the most important of all, the story keeps you engaged for the full 2hrs. If I absolutely had to pick something that I may not have liked then sure, there are certain bits and transitions I may not have loved. And that could be because I'm mostly using the Hiranis/the Neels/the Bansalis/the Sanders/the Abrams and the Nolans as a baseline and the way the story plays out on screen, this one is not far off from that target when comparing to greats that demand and deliver perfection in every scene. And then I have to keep reminding myself that this story is being delivered by a young 30-something debutant writer/director on a teensy budget, that is costing less than a 30-40 site in Bengaluru!
So to sum up, the movie really shines with its story, memorable characters thanks largely to good acting, dialogue delivery and that climax! A beautifully written song in the middle of the movie along with beautiful shots of Mangaluru brings down the pace just about enough, allowing you to catch your breath for a little while before you get back on the fast paced train till the very end!
Keeping everything said above in mind, I would rate this in two ways, making two comparisons to what we see the industry churning out today. In a sea of mundane movies of love stories/family drama that is rinsed and repeated, this is quite a breath of fresh air and for that, I give it a superb 10/10. And when you compare it with some of the excellent content coming out thanks to platforms like Netflix/Prime/Zee supporting independent artists and scripts, this one that's created, built and executed by an independent team, certainly scores a solid 9/10!
With a little bit of luck and the right exposure, Nimitta Matra could be a killer in 2025!

Nimitta Matra film is an extraordinary experience. Watching it in the theater was the best thingy I did. Had I waited for OTT I would've missed the audio video treat.
Director vision is very nice, elements of experiments, the Russia Us thingy was sumthing very interesting. I like the cop acting a lot. Ananya blew my mind in the climax. I have heard her song nee hinga nodabyaada nanna more than 10000 times. But seeing her on big screen was like magical.
Editing of the film is so crisp and such a short film. It felt like it started and ended soon. I would sit there for another half an hour atleast it was so intriguing.
I know there is a part 2 coming because of the ending. I will be waiting for this one. Great watch.

What you will immediately notice in the film is the pace at which the film travels. The screenplay looks crisp and although the plot does not give away anything in the first half, everything else seems to be working well in the second half where all the dots connect.
The dialogues are realistic and the story is gripping. Because of the super fast screenplay, you barely have time to notice any flaws in the execution. Although a few can be noticed, when you enjoy a film this much, all of that becomes negligible.
The main pillars of any film is the story, screenpIay, direction, editing and music. I was shocked when I read the credits where the director is also the editor, writer and the producer with having screenplay also against his name along with music. This show how skilled the director actually is. Its stunning really
WHen you Watch Nimitta Matra, make sure you have a solid 2 hrs time because it will not allow you to even blink.

If I have to review, I can only say its mindblowing. But since this deserves a lot more explaination, I ll try to remember some of the details that I loved the most about the story
1. The arc about the kids death - this was super interesting and when there was a reveal about something bigger a little later, that blew my mind
2. The experimentation arc - this was totally new to me. I didn't even know that this happened. Although i know most of it is fictionalised, this was super fresh and eciting to watch.
3. The climax - what blew my mind was this. The reveal and the way it was handled was something really amazing. This made the film bigger than what it actually is. I loved this part the most.
So without giving away spoilers, I will view this film again on OTT to notice more of directors nuances.
Over all the BGM was standing out for me which made this an even better watch on the big screen. On a smaller screen I think this might sound like a lot but I totally enjoyed it and it clealry show that it was indeed made for the big screen.
I rate this 8 out of 10. I want to give a 9 but Poorna was not upto the mark for me in this. He does not suit this role. He must go back to his aloof characters that he plays.

I have been a thriller movie buff from ages. I have watched almost all thrillers and I get into the detective mode every time I watch a thriller film. What caught my attention towards this film was the name and the word parapsychological thriller. I went to watch this film in the theatre with no expectations seeing the quality of films in kannada these days. After watching this film I was compelled to write this review because I saw something that I never even imagined in my darkest of the dreams. The movie took me by huge surprise and I forgot to see my phone till the end. First time I felt the interval also was not required. Very engaging thriller and what happens in the end was something that even I could not expect. Director Roshan has a very brilliant vision and the actress was extraordinary in her performance. Her act in the last scene was unexpected. Kannada industry definitely needs a fresh perspective like this.
I would give it a 9 on 10 only because I could not connect with the lead actor. The Ajaz character however had something very interesting to offer.

Hey Roshan, just wanted to share my honest thoughts after watching Nimitta Matra - and I have to say, I'm genuinely moved.
First of all, huge kudos to you for bringing such a thoughtful and layered concept to life. The whole idea of being a "nimitta matra" - just an instrument in the larger journey of life - was handled with so much subtlety and grace. You didn't force the message, yet it resonated deeply. I found myself reflecting on so many things even after the film ended.
The pacing was deliberately slow, but I think that's what gave the film its meditative quality. It gave space for the emotions to breathe, for the characters to sink in. The visuals were stunning - every frame felt like a painting, especially the way you captured the rural and spiritual settings. And the music... so soulful and understated. It never distracted, just elevated.
What I loved most was how grounded everything felt - the performances, the dialogues, the emotions. Nothing felt overdone. It was raw, real, and deeply human.
I'm really proud of what you've created, Roshan. Nimitta Matra isn't just a film - it's an experience. And one that stays with you. Well done, my friend. And all the very best. I'm sending this through Rahul as I didn't had your personal number. God bless.
Wishing you and your team all success, Kiran.

Brilliant is the word!! The film starts from the beautiful scenery of Mangalore beach with a boat. That very first scene hooked me on to the story. I like how they have used the kids and written the story.
Every single actor delivers their best performances making the story so compelling. Music plays a significant role in this film. I can't imagine the film if there was silence as it can distract u from the fast pace of this story telling. The beach song is very beautiful and a rap song that runs in the background keeps the swag of the character alive.
I loved the lead actress a lot. She is beautiful and charming but the way she takes control of the film in the end is amazing.
Director has a special talent of making this story so much convincing. I had almost lived the film for this two odd hours in the theatre. His vision and story telling skills are commendable.
Dialogues are crisp and cinematography is good. Sound design was decent. The fights look real. I would have enjoyed more if this had a known actor like a kishore or deekshit shetty in the lead role. Nevertheless it's a great watch.

The climax is so powerful that it lingers in your mind even after finishing watching the film. Its truly mindblowin.
After watching the film, my friends gave me the same review about the film that I felt after watching so I knew I was about the film. Every aspect of the film stood out fresh for me starting from the story, screenplay, visual treatment, acting, casting, everything worked amazingly well for me. The music was so so good and the BGM just stuck with me. It has me humming as I write this review.
What a film. I truly like it. All people please go and show the movie.. just very .....

I just watched Nimitta Matra... and WOW. I'm honestly still trying to process what I experienced. Why did I miss this in the theatres is the only thing I was thinking. This film completely took me by surprise-it's one of kfi's rare cinematic gems that grabs you from the very first scene and doesn't let go until the final frame. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen!
The storytelling is absolutely next level. Mr Director, take a bow. What a story, what writing. Every scene feels intentional, every dialogue hits the right note, and the way the narrative unfolds-it's like peeling back layers of something much deeper than just a story. I was hooked, emotionally invested, and genuinely moved.
What really blew me away was the narration. It flows so effortlessly, taking you on this incredible emotional journey-sometimes intense, sometimes subtle, but always gripping. I found myself feeling everything the characters were going through. The pacing is brilliant. There's not a single dull moment.
And the cast? Perfectly chosen. Every actor fits their role so naturally, it almost feels like you're watching real people live through real situations. The performances are powerful without being over-the-top, and the chemistry between the characters just makes it all feel even more authentic.
But the REAL knockout punch? That twist at the end. I did not see it coming. It's the kind of twist that gives you chills and makes you rethink the entire film from a new perspective. It's haunting, it's brilliant, and it's done so masterfully that I was left sitting in silence, trying to wrap my head around it. That ending will stay with me for a long, long time.
Nimitta Matra is not a movie-it's an experience. It's philosophical, emotional, suspenseful, and utterly unforgettable. I can't stop thinking about it, and I genuinely can't recommend it enough. If you love films that challenge you, surprise you, and stay with you well after the credits roll-please watch this. You won't regret it.
I'm already planning to watch it again on OTT on a big projector.

Okay, let me just say-this movie was an absolute ride! I didn't expect to enjoy it this much but from the moment I sat down, I was locked in. Like seriously, I didn't even check my phone once (and that never happens 😅).
What I loved the most is how real everything felt. Nothing was overly dramatic or cringey. Even the fight scenes-which usually go full slow-mo in our movies-felt grounded and believable. And the songs? So good! They didn't just randomly show up and kill the vibe. They were in the background, smooth, emotional, and added a whole mood to the scenes. That last song, especially.., wish it went on a little longer. So epic!
Now the concept-OH MAN-it's WILD. There's this whole thing about experiments and human behaviour and it actually feels like it's based on something real. The filmmaker even drops proof at the end like mic drop. For a Kannada movie, this storyline felt so new and experimental. Like... this isn't your usual hero-villain story, it really gets into your head.
I wish they'd shown the actual experiments though-like visually, not just told us about them. That would've been next level. Still, the idea itself was cool enough to keep me curious the whole time.
Direction, editing, screenplay-all on point. It actually felt fresh and different from the usual stuff. Acting-wise, I really liked the female lead and the cop guy-his dialogues HIT HARD. And omg so many new faces! Honestly, they did a fab job and I hope we see more of them in future films.
Also shoutout to the drone shots-they looked super cool! The overall colour tone was aesthetic AF. Not gonna lie, it gave indie-vibe but with a proper story to back it up.
AND that reveal scene towards the end?? Legit goosebumps. Like what just happened kind of moment. 😳
If you're someone who loves movies with a fresh concept, great music, and solid storytelling-please watch Nimitta Matra. This one deserves all the hype.
Now I'm off to tell all my friends to watch it.

Not even for a second I even blinked watching this film. I was weaving connections who is the killer. Then the story took so much twist and turns that I could not even guess what would happen. Then the climax was so shocking to me that I was like what.. I didn't even guess this. I don't want to spoil your experience so I will not reveal the ending. But you have to watch this film for the end only.
Highlights of this film according to me - 1. Super story, screenplay and fast edit 2. Music is awesome 3. Climax is mind blowing 4. Lead actress is super acting
I will watch it again next week to enjoy this thrill again.

I completely enjoyed the film from the time I sat down to watch it. It was no less than a great experience.
What I liked the most about this movie was it was very natural nothing over the top. There are some fights in the film too making it commercially viable. But even those fights don't look like a made up one. It looks pretty natural. Songs are also beautiful and placed nicely in the background without disturbing the story.
The thought of the story teller seems to be inspired by some true incidents which he provides proofs in the end. For a kannada film this concept is very different and especially the experiment made on humans part was very interesting. Although I would prefer to have seen all the experiments conducted visually instead of just narrating it.
Coming to the direction, edit and screenplay it seriously has some nice potential to outbreak the norms of our films. Acting I liked the female lead and the cop. Songs were all good.
Last song could have been extended it was very beautiful.
DOP was ok but drone shots were great. The colour tone of the film was very interesting. Some dialogues especially the cop has some nice impact.
I could see lot of new faces introduced in this film. Wishing them all a bright future.
Scene after the reveal was ultimate.

Wow, is the first word that comes to mind when I saw this film. The climax is so powerful that it lingers in your mind even after finishing watching the film. Its truly mindblowing. I was blown away by the cinematic experience the film gave. The trailer was the game changer for me. I was instantly hooked and decided to watch the film with a couple of my friends.
I truly wish the director does not stop here and goes onto make something bigger soon.

The most exciting part of watching a thriller film is its unpredictability. You tend to wear your detective hat and watch the film to figure out what is happening. The best part about this film was that I could not figure out what was happening. The moment I tried to figure out, another twist comes in and changes my perception.
And imagine the same continuing till the end of the film. That is how thrilling the film is. Even after the climax is over, the director has managed to insert another twist in the end.
And after the credits roll, there's another bunch of slides which show the factual information from which this film is inspired from.
Remarkable effort. I believe this is just the start. We need to support these types of films that dares to dream :)

This movie is a treasure to our film industry.
What I liked the most - 1. The name of the film is very unique 2. Story is brilliant 3. Screenplay and edit is very crisp and fast paced.
4. Drone shots are beautiful 5. Music and songs are beautiful 6. Lead actress Sangeetha Rajeev and cop role Aravind Kuplikar are awesome.
What I didn't like 1. There were very less screens for this masterpiece 2. Needed more marketing because this film has more potential to do great like a Kantara.
Overall brilliant film, the theatrical experience for this film was super. Great story and performances. 2025 is a nice year for kannada industry.

I don't even know how to process what I just watched. Nimitta Matra isn't just a film-it's a psychological Tsunami that crashed right to my brain and heart. I went to sunnxt expecting a decent watch... and end mind blown
From the beginning, film pulls you with this strange intensity. Every scene felt like it was building something, and did it deliver. The story? INSANE. So well-crafted, so layered, every twist punched me harder than last. I kept thinking, "Okay, that has to be the peak..." and then-BOOM-another revelation drops like a hammer.
The narration? Silky smooth. Moves like poetry but hit like thriller. I was emotionally ping-ponging from one scene to the next-tense, then stunned. I forgot I was watching. I felt like I was inside story.
And CAST. MY GOD. Every actor slipped into roles like super. The female lead had fire, and the cop character gave me CHILLS. That stare. Those dialogues. The tension. It all felt too real. The chemistry between characters just added fuel to fire.
But THAT TWIST. The final act? I think my soul left body. I just sat there with mouth open, totally clueless. I haven't been rattled by a plot twist like this in many many years. It was like the director reached my brain
This movie doesn't just entertain, it posses. You question everything. Will, purpose, fate... everything. And still manages to a tight, thrilling, cinematic ride from start to finish.
Final words? Nimitta Matra destroyed me. I want to watch it again immediately just to catch everything. If you haven't seen it, You're not ready. But go anyway.

Nimitta Matra is a beautifully restrained film that speaks volumes through its silences, visuals, and philosophical undercurrents. A true thriller where the does not dare to waver attention. The film very intelligently explores the idea of being merely an instrument-a nimitta matra (the most apt title for a film)-in the grand design of things.
The storytelling is mature and deeply reflective. Without leaning on melodrama or unnecessary exposition, the film draws you into a space where you start questioning your own notions of control, decision-making, and fate. The narrative is slow, but intentionally so, allowing every scene to breathe and resonate.
Performance-wise, all actors do a fantastic job expect for the lead Poornachandra who could have done a much better job when given a tight script like this one. He is the only one who looked aloof.
The film is anchored by a brilliant first act, a though provoking middle act and a brilliant final act. Supporting actors blend seamlessly into the world of the film, adding realism and texture to the story.
The cinematography is fresh. The framing, light, and color palette are used masterfully to mirror the protagonist's inner world. The music doesn't overwhelm-it gently guides, evoking emotion without manipulation.
Nimitta Matra isn't for those looking for conventional entertainment. It's for viewers who appreciate cinema that questions, contemplates, and ultimately transforms. This is philosophical storytelling at its best-meditative, meaningful, and moving.
This is a rare Kannada film that dares to go deep and stay quiet. If you're open to cinema that makes you think and feel in equal measure, Nimitta Matra is a must-watch.

It is very rare that a movie captures the entirety of viewer involvement from the get go to the climax. This is such a Film. Having an impeccable balance of Originality, Memorable Performances, Impressionable Music along with all aspects of Production Technicalities, Nimitta Matra packs an absolute gem of a movie. The vision of the director Roshan D'Souza in making of this film is the epitome of creative and awesome film making. With Brilliant Screenplay, Editing and Sound Design the movie is an example of a quality commercial entertainer. Absolutely fresh and recommended for all movie lovers.
