For this Phantom Limbs, we’ll be uncovering George A. Romero’s Goosebumps, a feature film adaptation of the popular line of children’s horror novels written by R.L. Stine. Based on that series’ first book, Welcome to Dead House, Romero’s film would have expanded upon Stine’s tale while tweaking its central threat, all while keeping the scares family friendly. While the film sadly went unproduced (and the book would go on to be adapted for the Goosebumps television series in the late 90s), Romero nevertheless penned a full screenplay for the project, which more than illustrates his approach for an “all ages” horror film.
In researching this article, your writer paid a visit to the George A. Romero Archival Collection at the University of Pittsburgh Library System, which houses numerous works from the late horror legend, including produced and unproduced screenplays, treatments, artwork, correspondence, props, posters and more!

I’ve got an new short horror film for you to watch today called Dead House. The movie comes from director Travis Laidlaw and follows two men who are renovating a mysterious old house. As they attempt to leave, the building enters lock down and seals them inside. “Unfortunately, the house has different plans for them.”
This is decent horror movie that has a nightmarishly creepy atmosphere. This is definitely a situation that I wouldn’t want to find myself in as it’s filled with all kinds terrible horrors.
The film was actually shot at an old house that the filmmaking team found. It also happens to be the house that director Andy Muschietti shot parts of Stephen King’s It movie in. Laidlaw shot this short right before the It production took over. It’s definitely a great location! I included the full story below the short film...

"Don't listen to him." Yet another horror short to keep you up at night, afraid to go to sleep or look out the window. Dead House is a horror short written and directed by Toronto-based filmmaker Travis Laidlaw. The short is about two men renovating a mysterious old house who try to leave before the building enters lock down, but the house has different plans for them. This was filmed in three days at an existing old house that they found. It's actually the same house that was used to film Andy Muschietti's It movie, and they were able to go and shoot there just before the It crew took over. Dead House stars Virgil Howarth and Redd Ochoa. There's an impressively creepy atmosphere to this, with all kinds of devious tricks & treats waiting within. Dim the lights, put headphones on & crank the volume for an optimal viewing experience.
