A cash-grab at the expense of real boxing

This so-called boxing event was nothing more than a money-making scheme disguised as a fight. The matchup between Jake Paul, a YouTuber-turned-boxer, and the legendary Mike Tyson was built on an avalanche of media hype and shallow promotional tactics, but it delivered almost nothing of substance.

The fight lacked authenticity, skill, and any semblance of genuine competition. Tyson, though a boxing icon, seemed more like a shadow of his former self, and Jake Paul's performance felt more about sustaining his celebrity status than showcasing real boxing prowess.

What makes this event even more infuriating is the ripple effect it's had on the boxing world.

In the Netherlands, we're now seeing personalities like Manoeuf and Dave Roelvink attempting to replicate this kind of spectacle, feeding off the manufactured drama for personal gain. This trend is reducing boxing to a mere sideshow, overshadowing the discipline, dedication, and legacy that true fighters bring to the sport.

"Came to see a battering didn't get much of one"

First of all the commentary was just flat out awful was every one of those guys on the table Mike Tyson haters constantly mentioning his age was really disrespectful. But wop he's 58 years old not 90. I didn't watch all of it but the fight between Katie and Amanda was hands down the best fight of the night just an absolute brawl. Then there was the technical issues my screen kept duffering even a few times but only briefly in the main event I thought my WiFi was dodgy and even had to turn it off but other people had similar problems. Not good for a first time Netflix boxing PPV the first round was my favourite Mike Tyson got some good punches in there. But lost the momentum later on part of me believes this was set up (okay Mike go nuts on the first round but after that do nothing got it). And lastly after the fight Mike saying he'd like to fight Jake and Jake Paul saying "m*********** I'd kill you" yeah okay junior your brother couldn't even knock him out. Such a stupid and insulting thing to say Netflix really screwed us over with the main bout such a disappointment CAN WE STOP SCRIPTING FIGHTS! I wanted to see Mike drop Jake that's was the point for most people hoping to see a good fight. I hope we don't have these technical issues when WWE is on Netflix.

The Price of Legacy

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight was less a contest of fists than a melancholy dance-a staged spectacle, and yet, a strange mirror of life. I won't dwell on the fixed ending, the scripted moves, the sense that the fight was little more than a play. Instead, let's look deeper, at the sad poetry of what it revealed.

Seeing Tyson-a lion in his winter, once the embodiment of raw strength-reduced to this, a shadow play for spectacle's sake, felt like a hollow echo of his former self. Here was a man who once fought for glory, now standing not for honor, but for the price tag stamped on it. The money bought this fight, yes, but more painfully, it bought a piece of his legend. A reminder, perhaps, that no figure, no legacy, can forever escape the tug of time and fortune.

This wasn't sport; it was a quiet tragedy dressed as entertainment, a reminder that even giants grow weary, even legends fade, and that in the end, we all have our price. Watching him move to a preordained rhythm made me ache with the realization: in life, as in this ring, so much of what we believe to be real is little more than spectacle. And yet, knowing this, we can't help but keep watching.

As a fight, it was empty. As a symbol, it was haunting.

Horrible

This was a painful watch. Not because of the brutality, but because of the utter lack of it. The whole thing felt staged, like a poorly choreographed wrestling match with boxing gloves. Mike Tyson, a legend I grew up watching, moved around the ring like a shadow of his former self, throwing hesitant punches and barely engaging. It was sad to see, honestly.

Jake Paul, on the other hand, seemed to be playing a role, cautiously tapping at Tyson without ever really committing to a knockout. The whole thing reeked of a pre-determined outcome, designed for maximum profit rather than a genuine sporting contest. It felt insulting as a fan, like they were banking on nostalgia and spectacle instead of delivering a real fight.

Even the commentary felt flat, forced to hype up moments of minimal action. The crowd seemed equally underwhelmed, with cheers feeling more obligatory than enthusiastic. By the end, I wasn't even interested in who won. The whole thing felt like a waste of time, a cynical exercise in extracting money from fans.

The only genuine emotion I felt was disappointment. Disappointment for Tyson, who deserved a better send-off, and disappointment for boxing as a whole. This wasn't a fight; it was a carefully constructed performance, and a bad one at that.

Netflix L

Where do I even begin? Last night was supposed to be the event: Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson, an exhibition match that promised to deliver spectacle, drama, and perhaps some pure unhinged madness. Whether you love or loathe either of these men, this was going to be a fight for the ages - or at least an entertaining dumpster fire. But thanks to Netflix, the only fight I experienced was with my own Wi-Fi and the refresh button. Spoiler alert: I lost.

Let's backtrack. The hype was real. Netflix, diving headfirst into the realm of live sports, promised a seamless, thrilling experience. The Serrano vs. Taylor fight was the perfect appetizer. A great buildup, tension in the air-this was the kind of content you clear your schedule for. Then, BOOM. Right after Serrano vs. Taylor, Netflix decides to tap out before the main event even starts. The stream froze. Permanently.

Who thought it was a good idea for Netflix, a company that excels at binge-watching dramas and true crime, to suddenly try their hand at streaming a global sporting event? This is like asking someone who's only ever made microwaved ramen to cater a Michelin-starred dinner. Sure, maybe they can pull it off, but odds are you'll end up with a soggy mess-and that's exactly what happened here.

Netflix clearly bit off more than they could chew. They marketed this event like they had the infrastructure of ESPN, DAZN, or any platform that's actually done this before. But when the chips were down and the audience was watching, they folded.

Netflix, you had ONE job. You could have nailed this and opened the door to a whole new era of sports entertainment. Instead, you cemented your reputation as a platform that should stick to what it knows: scripted content. Don't come back to the sports world until you've learned how to stream a live event without turning it into a colossal train wreck.

If you're reading this and considering watching a live sporting event on Netflix in the future: don't. Save yourself the frustration, find an alternative, and leave Netflix to do what they're good at-feeding us endless reruns of The Office. Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson deserved better, and so did we.

Worthless Spectacle

The best part about this "fight" was the part I didn't see due to the netflix servers buffering. The look on Jake Paul's face when Mike hit him in rounds 1 and 2 told me all I need to know. Salute. So the rest of the way, Jake ran around the ring throwing body shots that. A baby's bottom would be proud of. I mean those blows were as weak as wet toilet tissue. Congrats to Mike Tyson for cashing a $20 million check at age 58 for doing cardio. May we all strive to be so lucky doing similar activities at age 58. So to Jake Paul, pick on someone your own age and see if you won't have a different outcome, but I know your ego probably couldn't handle it.

Hard to watch.

Really just embarrassing for everyone involved. Tyson for taking the fight and looking like a 60 year old man after all this talk of KO'ing Paul he did nothing for 16 minutes. The main fight was the shortest fight of the night due to Tyson's age and he never once managed to get the fight going, he just looked old, even the highlight reel for the fight is less than 2 minutes. It's embarrassing for Paul after all the talk he beat an old man by decision, no big fight moment. He even said he was going easy on Tyson as he could feel the age difference, what type of entertainment is that? Young boy takes it easy on old man. Yeah I'm sure that's the headline Netflix wanted for it's big boxing match. And finally embarrassing for us for having to watch this rubbish and live in a world that praises people who beat up on old men. Never again.

Stop wasting our time

If you advertise a live event to start at 2 in the morning, then you should not waste everyones time showing several other ridiculous events that noone cares about.

It has been 3 hours of utter time waste so far - I could not care less about the first 6 fighters and now I am too sleepy to stay up for the event that was actuallu advertised.

I guess I will see the results timorrow, but I honestly dont even care at this point.

This has been a massive disappointment and I doubt I can be bothered to waste another night like this for a live event in the future.

Honestly - I hope this ends up costinh you subscriptions.

Absolute rubbish

Complete garbage.,biggest waste of people time and money in a very long time. Total sham. I don't know why people keep falling for this nonsense. I watched it because I already pay for Netflix and I still feel like I wasted my money and time. Clear cash grab by one fake troll and a 60 year old man who admittedly smokes weed consistently all day. Not much else to say, total disgrace, total waste of time total insult to the people who paid their hard earned money to watch this trash. If Jake Paul wants to be a boxer then have him fight real boxers that are his age and weight and stop conning people with these fake nonsense.

Jake and Mike crashed Live stream

I decided to return to Netflix for this match, but this event and the main match itself proved to be the biggest disappointment in the history of live streaming.

The live stream crashed or buffered even before the main match. In the end, I didn't see the main match until after it was over. Many subscribers complained about the same thing. You would think that Netflix would have been prepared for something like this, given the huge hype for the match.

This night of boxing offered only one enjoyable and classic fight. The rating of 1 will remain until Netflix has made up for this disappointment. Otherwise this is a 5/10.

A waste of time!

First of all netflix servers were terrible today and you couldn't watch the fight in a quality more than 360p. The actual fight started like 3 hours in the stream so what happened in the previous 3? Showing us random events that nobody cares! I don't really know anything about boxing but the fight seemed to be way too short and fake. Tyson after the first 2 rounds didn't do anything he wasn't even dodging or hitting jake paul. Jake on the other hand also didn't really seem to fight at all. Punches didn't look strong at all and the whole thing looked like a sparing match which is the shame considering it got delayed before and received so much hype. I think netflix just wanted more dirty money and the whole thing was scripted even though I knew that Jake was going to win anyway. One of the most boring sport event in history.

Serrano and Taylor were great

The fight between Serrano and Taylor had the high-powered energy and sheer viciousness I expected from the Tyson/Paul fight. Those women were brutal! I tuned in and watched a couple of the other fights, too, and I was feeling pumped for the finale. While the commentators were kind of... bad, I laughed it off and waited with anticipation for what was promised to be a global moment.

The fight which we were subjected to a four-hour live lead up for was over in just 20 minutes and was incredibly empty. I turned my television off and my partner and I barely discussed it. The only satisfying part was Paul being obviously booed by the audience at the beginning, while everyone cheered for Iron Mike.

Another glaring issue: Netflix was having a really hard time streaming this. At times, I felt like I was watching a 360p YouTube video than a millions of dollars Netflix production. The drop in quality was so disappointing it took me entirely out of the action. Hopefully, they do better with live streams in the future.

Those with high expectations are crying now

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson event promised fireworks but delivered sparklers at best. It had all the makings of a grand spectacle: the raw power of Tyson's name, a boxing icon stepping back into the ring, and Jake Paul, the master provocateur whose antics make him impossible to ignore. On paper, it was unmissable. On screen? It was more a testament to hype culture than actual sport.

Tyson, now far from his prime, gave us flashes of what once was but lacked the ferocity that made him legendary. Paul, for all his social media bravado, didn't bring much to elevate the contest beyond a flashy exhibition. Worse, the fight setup-oddly reduced rounds and questionable restrictions-felt less like an attempt to keep things fair and more like an orchestrated drama.

What really stung was the realization that this wasn't about boxing or legacy; it was about numbers-viewership, streams, and paychecks. Millions tuned in, seduced by nostalgia and curiosity, only to leave wondering why we fell for it.

This wasn't the epic clash we were sold. It was a glitzy façade, a shallow reflection of what sport can and should be. Next time, let's hope we get something worth the price of admission-and the hype.

In 2024, Netflix can't livestream and Mike Tyson is old

Tyson vs. Paul. The hype was relentless. Tyson, a legend past his prime, paired with an influencer-turned-boxer with 20 million followers - because why not? Make it a Netflix live event, stir the pot, rake in the views, and push the boundaries of spectacle. People bought in, sat through five hours of fluff, waiting for the main event. And then? The unthinkable. Netflix crashed. In 2024. Tyson being old is one thing - time always wins. But Netflix? A tech giant failing like this? No excuse. The spectacle wasn't just the fight; it was the collapse, the disappointment, the chaos, and the utter absurdity of it all.

When did we normalize throwing fights?

Biggest modern times cringe fest. Do not bother. A setup match for making some specific people rich. What a time to be alive. Everyone knows but we all pretend we don't. The only way you can resist is by not watching. If you want to watch a real fight i suggest Nacho Libre. Now that film is 10/10 and is less fictional than this fight.

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson - A Controversial Clash of Generations

On November 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul faced former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in a highly publicized boxing match. The event, streamed globally on Netflix, attracted an estimated 65 million viewers at its peak.

Fight Overview

The bout was scheduled for eight two-minute rounds with 14-ounce gloves, sanctioned as a professional fight by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Jake Paul, 27, emerged victorious over the 58-year-old Tyson by unanimous decision, with judges scoring the fight 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in Paul's favor.

Positives

✔ Massive Viewership: The fight drew significant global attention, highlighting the merging worlds of traditional sports and digital media influencers.

✔ Financial Success: Paul reportedly earned $40 million, while Tyson secured $20 million, underscoring the lucrative nature of celebrity boxing matches.

✔ Respectful Sportsmanship: Despite pre-fight tensions, both fighters displayed mutual respect post-bout, with Paul bowing to Tyson and the two embracing in the ring.

Negatives

  • Age Disparity Concerns: The 31-year age difference sparked criticism, with some viewing the match as exploitative and questioning its competitive integrity.

  • Technical Issues: Netflix faced technical difficulties during the live broadcast, including buffering problems and audio malfunctions, leading to viewer frustration.

  • Lackluster Performance: The fight itself was criticized for its lack of excitement, with Tyson landing only 18 punches compared to Paul's 78, leading some spectators to describe the event as underwhelming.

Conclusion

The Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight exemplified the growing trend of crossover boxing events, blending entertainment with sports. While it achieved remarkable financial success and viewership, the significant age gap between the fighters and technical broadcast issues overshadowed the event's credibility and overall reception.
