‘Darlings’ Takes India By Storm; Alia Bhatt Domestic Violence Dark Comedy Has Netflix’s Highest Global Opening For Non-English Indian Film

A dark comedy dealing in the disturbing subject matter of domestic violence is taking audiences by storm in India and beyond.

Darlings, which began streaming on Netflix globally a week ago, has had the highest global opening for a non-English Indian film, with audiences spending more than 10 million hours watching it in its opening weekend, according to a statement released by the streaming service to the BBC.

It is also “currently trending in the top 10 in 16 countries in the Americas, Africa and Asia including in the UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Kenya and Trinidad and Tobago.”

The film is directed by Jasmeet K Reen and stars Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma in the lead roles. The narrative sees a young couple fall in love before he begins to abuse his young wife until, after a while, the tables are turned.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo meets 'Misery' in new thriller 'A Fight in the Tree-Tops'. Horrornews.net confirmed that Craig Rees, currently in 'Whispers' alongside Barbara Nedeljajova and Keeley Hazell, who also will be seen in the 2011 London riots based flick 'Violence', has been cast in the upcoming feature playing an MI6 agent and is set to begin filming at Pinewood studios later this year. The Brit, 44, who like actors Alexandra Daddario, Jared Leto, Brian Geraghty, and Jennifer Connelly must drink from the fountain of youth to stay looking so young. We are looking forward to hearing more about the project and let’s hope it packs a punch.
