The following article contains discussion of grooming allegations and suicide.
Disney+'s new K-drama proceeds with filming despite its Queen of Tears star being the subject of massive controversy, with no release date revealed. Allegations have begun circulating that the K-drama series actor Kim Soo-hyun was in a relationship with actor Kim Sae-ron when he was an adult, and she was a minor. His agency has denied these allegations, even threatening legal action "against the spread of false information." Unfortunately, Kim Sae-ron tragically committed suicide on February 16, 2025 at the age of 24, leaving only her family to vouch for the alleged relationship truly happening.
According to Korean news outlet Hankook Ilbo (via The Korea Times), Disney+'s upcoming K-drama, Knock-Off, starring Kim Soo-Hyun, will continue filming despite the allegations surrounding its star. As of writing, there is no exact schedule as to when filming will continue, nor a release date for the upcoming show.

Sony Animation/Netflix’s innovative, 2D-inspired “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” led the 49th annual Annie Awards Saturday with eight wins, including best feature, direction and writing, character design, production design, editorial, FX, and voice acting (Abbie Jacobson as Katie). Asifa-Hollywood’s animation version of the Oscars was held virtually at UCLA’s Royce Hall for the second consecutive year because of the pandemic.
Disney’s Oscar frontrunner, “Encanto,” the animated musical set in Colombia, followed with three awards for character animation, music, and storyboarding. Netflix’s “The Mitchells vs. the Machines” dominated the 49th annual Annie Awards on Saturday, winning eight awards to only three for Disney’s “Encanto.” While “Mitchells” from Mike Rianda and Jeff Rowe has won more critics’ awards than “Encanto,” the Disney film has won virtually every Hollywood guild award and is the prohibitive favorite to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
“Mitchells” won in every one of the eight categories in which it was nominated at the Annie Awards, including Best Feature, Best Direction, Best Writing and Best Voice Acting (Abbi Jacobson). The three wins for “Encanto” – for character animation, music and storyboarding – came in categories in which “Mitchells” was not nominated.
Netflix won an additional 12 awards in the 13 TV categories, nine of them for “Arcane.” Overall, the company was nominated in 25 categories and won in 20 of those.

Has it really been ten years since “Save the Green Planet”, still one of the best, not to mention wildest, Korean films in recent memory? There’s certainly been nothing quite like it since, and so it’s both a shock and a shame that it’s taken so long for director Jang Joon Hwan to follow it up, as he finally now has with “Hwayi: A Monster Boy”. Though on paper the film sounds like a kidnap and crime thriller, as expected from Jang, it’s far from straightforward, delving into dark and philosophical territory while packing in lots of graphic violence and surprises. Upcoming teen actor Yeo Jin Gu (hugely popular after roles in television series such as “The Moon that Embraces the Sun” and “I Miss You”) plays the 16-year-old Hwayi of the title, who as a young boy was kidnapped by a ruthless gang of criminals...

A K-pop idol goes undercover in “Commitment”, an espionage thriller that marks the debut of director Park Hong Soo, who previously worked with Jang Hoon on his blockbusters “The Front Line” and “Secret Reunion”. The superstar in question is T.O.P (Choi Seung Hyun) of Big Bang fame, who follows up his supporting roles in the recent “Iris” and “71 – Into the Fire” with his first crack at headlining a film, taking on the role of a teenage North Korean agent who gets sent on a deadly mission to the South. With support coming from other top up and coming talent, including actresses Kim Yoo Jung (“The Moon That Embraces the Sun”) and Han Ye Ri (“As One”), the film is the latest in a line of North-South Korean dramas that focuses on young protagonists not even born during the early years of the conflict but caught up in its complexities and violence.
