Spring is finally in the air, and any self-respecting television fan knows what that means: It’s Emmy season, baby! I know, I know. What with the breakdown of the traditional TV calendar and proliferation of precursor awards, it’s essentially always Emmy season — but the arrival of April means it’s crunch time. Old-school networks and streaming services that allow for weekly releases are pumping out prestige shows left and right, whether it’s Michelle Williams in FX’s “Dying for Sex,” Seth Rogen in the Apple TV+ comedy “The Studio,” or Jon Hamm in the Apple TV+ drama “Your Friends and Neighbors,” the months leading up to May’s Emmy contention deadline are jam-packed with golden hopefuls.
Netflix isn’t immune from the onslaught, though it does operate at a slight delay. The bulk of Netflix’s last-second (aka premium positioned) awards contenders will drop in May, since...

Exclusive: Gerardo Celasco and Marta Milans join Peacock’s upcoming South Florida-set crime thriller M.I.A. from Ozark co-creator Bill Dubuque.
They join the series regular cast led by Shannon Gisela, who plays ‘Etta Tiger Jonze,’ Brittany Adebumola, as ‘Lovely,’ and Dylan Jackson as ‘Stanley.’ Maurice Compte, Danay Garcia and Cary Elwes are also series regulars, though their characters’ names, like Celasco and Milans’, have yet to be revealed.
Running drugs is a family affair for Etta Tiger Jonze (Gisela) in M.I.A. But when the family business is threatened, she is thrust into a life she never expected, forcing her to use her wits to survive as she navigates Miami’s criminal underground.
Mia is the airport code for Miami. The SoFla area consists of Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties.
The series comes from studio MRC (Poker Face), with Karen Campbell serving as executive producer and showrunner. Alethea Jones will direct and executive produce. Dubuque will write Episode 101 and executive produce alongside Campbell and Jones, who will also direct.
M.I.A. is the latest series to explore SoFla’s seedy underbelly including Chris Brancato’s Hotel Cocaine—based on Compte’s father’s life— for MGM+ and two Netflix series: the Sofia Vergara-led Griselda and the early seasons of Narcos focused on Pablo Escobar, both with executive producers including Eric Newman, Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard. Narcos was co-created by Brancato. Showtime’s original Dexter series was also famously set in Miami, and its Paramount+ with Showtime prequel spinoff series Dexter: Original Sin.
Celasco is a Salvadoran actor, born in Miami and raised in El Salvador, who has called Los Angeles home since 2005. He made his TV debut with a lead role on the NBC Daytime show Passions, which he followed with various film and TV roles, including Moneyball, Battleship, the Fox series Bones and Person of Interest for CBS.
Celasco was the male lead on the Netflix limited series National Parks for ABC, with guest arcs in Good Sam for CBS and ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder. He also played the male lead of Roku’s Swimming With Sharks opposite Diane Kruger and Kiernan Shipka. He will next be seen in Netflix’s The Waterfront and Carlton Cuse’s Pulse for Peacock. He is repped by Entertainment 360, The Gersh Agency and Goodman Genow Schenkman.
Milans starred in Warner Brother’s “Shazam!” franchise and Netflix’s hit original series White Lines from the Emmy award winner producer Álex Pina. Additionally, she starred in Pina’s Spanish television series The Pier and the Netflix Spain series The Minions of Midas, directed by Academy Award winner Mateo Gil. She is repped by Jwm Entertainment Group, The Kohner Agency, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Below, creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer Zoe Robyn and co-showrunner and executive producer Carlton Cuse preview the new medical drama. This is the first ever English language medical procedural on Netflix. Was there any pressure knowing that? Carlton Cuse: Yeah, there was a lot of pressure. Popular perception of Japanese horror, or J-horror, might be limited to "Ringu" and "Ju-on: The Grudge," but there's more to this thematically rich genre. The enduring image of Sadako crawling out of a television screen is preceded by decades worth of macabre folk tales, supernatural myths, and horror aspects drawn from traditional Kabuki theater. One of the earliest examples of J-horror is Kaneto Shindo's 1964 film "Onibaba," a tale of dread and betrayal set against the backdrop of civil war. At other times, these horror stories dive into deeply surreal waters, such as Nobuhiko Obayashi's "Hausu" aka "House," which has gained cult status over the years due to its inventive imagery.
Fast forward to a post-"Ringu" world, Takashi Miike made "One Missed Call," which features a straightforward horror plot revolving around strange cell phone messages. For those unfamiliar with Miike's brand of filmmaking, the "Audition" and "Ichi the Killer...

Netflix has debuted the trailer for the upcoming hospital drama series ‘Pulse.’
As a hurricane barrels towards Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended.
Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of trauma cases, the hospital goes into lockdown. Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together – even as the bombshell details of a complicated and illicit romance between them spill out. The rest of the ER is left to process the fallout of their relationship while balancing their own challenges, both personal and professional, as they work under the pressure of life-or-death stakes. For this tight-knit group of doctors, saving their patient’s lives is often less complicated than living their own.

Netflix's upcoming new medical drama Pulse is certainly giving off Grey's Anatomy vibes if you ask me. Right down to the central relationship too. But, that doesn't mean I'm not going to watch it! I'm actually really looking forward to the upcoming series. And I think you fellow medical drama fan s will be excited about it too.
Pulse premieres Tuesday, April 3, 2025 on Netflix. There's a total of 10 episodes to look forward to. You might think that something as intense as a medical drama might be too much as a binge. Though with Grey's Anatomy doing so well streaming on Netflix, it's clear there's an audience for it. And I think that's why the streamer is clearly trying its hand at its own version. I'm definitely willing to give it a chance.
I can already tell based on the newly released trailer that I'll also be shipping Danny Simms and Xander Phillips.

Netflix has released the official trailer for its first English-language medical procedural Pulse, which will premiere globally on the streaming service on April 3, 2025. Key art for the series has also been revealed.
In the series, as a hurricane barrels towards Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (Willa Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly thrust into a promotion when beloved Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended.
Amid the worsening storm and an onslaught of trauma cases, the hospital goes into lockdown, and Danny and Phillips must find a way to work together – even as the bombshell details of a complicated and illicit romance between them begin to spill out.
The rest of the ER is left to process the fallout of their relationship while balancing their own challenges, both personal and professional, as they work under the pressure of life-or-death stakes. Because for this tight-knit group of doctors,...

Two medical attendants get caught kissing by a nurse, a hurricane forces the whole hospital to step up and, of course, a patient’s life is saved.

When cases start to pile up in the middle of the storm, Danny and Phillips must put their flirtation aside and focus on their patients under the pressure of life-or-death stakes. Watch the full trailer, here:

It’s the year of the medical procedural! Following the debuts of ABC’s Doctor Odyssey, Fox’s Doc, Max’s The Pitt, NBC’s Brilliant Minds and CBS’ Watson, Netflix will scrub in for rounds with Pulse on Thursday, April 3.

Per the official logline, as a hurricane comes barreling toward them, “third-year resident Dr. Danny Simms (played...

Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell lead a drama where work gets personal.
Netflix is scrubbing in for its first-ever English-language medical procedural, and “Pulse” is bringing more than just high-stakes ER drama—it’s got romance, tension, and plenty of heart-racing moments (literally). And since I’m a sucker for a love story, this one’s already got my attention. The show follows Dr. Danielle “Danny” Simms (Willa Fitzgerald), a rising star at Miami’s Maguire Medical Center who suddenly finds herself promoted to chief resident when Dr. Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended. The catch? Xander isn’t just her boss - he’s also her ex, and as their messy past starts to spill into the ER, a hurricane barrels toward the city, trapping them inside the hospital together. With life-and-death stakes inside and out, “Pulse” looks like it’s serving up the perfect mix of drama, disaster,...

Medical dramas will never go out of style, but 2025 might be the genre's peak on television. Fox's new hit series Doc, which premiered in early January, has been one of the most prominent highlights on the channel. The series follows a doctor who suffers from memory loss after a traumatic brain injury, which makes her subsequent return to her career a major challenge. It seems Fox has moved quickly to award the show's high ratings with a surprise renewal update that marks a major commitment by the network.
Fox has commissioned a 22-episode Season 2 for Doc, which is currently airing its 10-episode first season on the channel and streaming on Hulu. A rare full-season order for the network, Fox is very pleased with the ratings success Doc is having thus far, especially on streaming. Fox has given an early, 22-episode Season 2 renewal to breakout freshman medical drama Doc, starring Molly Parker.
This is a rare full-season order of that size in the new broadcast era where seasons often consist of 13-18 episodes. The last Fox drama to produce 22 episodes was the network’s previous medical show, The Resident, which delivered 23 during the 2021-22 season.
What makes Doc‘s pickup size even more unusual is that it is given to a series that launched in midseason. As they only air for a couple of months, these freshmen have smaller orders, between eight and 13 episodes. (Doc‘s was 10.) That is not considered fully adequate for a show to prove itself, so midseason newbies typically receive a 13-episode Season 2 renewal that could be extended with additional episodes if the series returns strong in the fall. Doc joins very few midseason entries that have earned straight full-season Season 2 pickups,...

Never saw this coming. An epic Thursday Night Doc Odyssey and 911 crossover on ABC will unfold in late March. Yes, that means 1) the two shows are in the same universe, and 2) we’ll get Angela Bassett joining Joshua Jackson and Don Johnson on ABC’s rookie cruise ship medical series.
First Responder Meet-Up
Variety initially reported the exciting news. The crossover will take place on March 20 during Casino Week on board Doc Odyssey’s resident cruise ship, The Odyssey. Bassett’s 911 character, LAPD Sergeant Athena Grant, will be on the ship in an official capacity.
Take a look at the episode’s synopsis, “Unexpected guest Athena Grant suspects two passengers are targeting the ship’s vault. Enlisting Max’s (Joshua Jackson) help, Athena raises the stakes in a dangerous game where not everyone will end up with a winning hand.”

It's the last week of the shortest month of the year, and while there aren't a ton of new releases coming to streaming services this week, the new titles without a doubt make it count. One of the projects we’ve been crowing about coming up on Netflix in 2025 is the streamer’s first-ever medical procedural series, Pulse. The series has had the lid lifted on it with an April 2025 release date set. Here are all those first looks and a recap of everything we know so far.
First announced publicly in March 2024 (although in development for at least a year before that), the series marks a first for Netflix, at least when it comes to its English-language programming. Although it’s licensed plenty of medical dramas over the years, it’s never made one itself—at least not a procedural.
The series is created by veteran writer and producer Carlton Cuse,...
